Day 12 - The last day of my 12 days of shoutouts. Thank you to everyone for your follows, comments and likes. I hope you’ve checked out everyone I’ve posted about :) I think it’s great how our pictures are showcasing the work we do, the skills we have and the important impact the Merchant Navy continues to have on the world. I’ve chosen @coolmariners
to finish off the shoutouts, it’s a fantastic Instagram with lots of cool pictures from lots of cool mariners! I love seeing their updates and following the people they feature! Check them out ⚓️

Do you see 8 years of struggling to gain weight?
How about no knowledge of real experience lifting or proper nutrition?
Let’s go even further back to about 12 years ago (around 2006) and skipping out on real weight training classes in high school, because I barely weighted 140 pounds.
Fast forward back to 2010 in Marjah, Afghanistan. Roughly weighting 150-155lbs. Carrying a full combat load on every patrol and op.
My body hated me. I felt every bone and ache. That was where I made the decision it was time for a change and became hooked.
Diet wasn’t as important as to what I was eating, but more about getting in the calories I was burning and making sure I was getting everything I could in.
Little did I know at the time what it was doing for my mental health. Not only was it making me stronger and more capable, but it was giving me a release and outlet.
You don’t see the years of trial and error. The failures and defeats. The 14-16 hour days maybe sometimes longer, but still made time to train.
You don’t see the injuries from improper form and months out of the gym to recharge and refocus, but never losing site of the bigger picture.
All you see is what you choose to see and ask about.
I’m about a year and a half out from a degree in exercise science. I have my CPT with ISSA. I have years of failures and what not to do.
Never lose sight. Never lose focus. The goals you have are for you. The worst thing you can do is let someone take your dreams from you.
