A friend recently told me a story of a woman who had gotten hearing aids after suffering from hearing loss for a decade. Suddenly with her hearing aids, this woman could now hear birds, she could hear the trees rustling in the wind.
This made me think of how many gifts, like hearing, we take for granted.
This photo was taken in Maui on a day of getting lost exploring, a day that I think I actually found parts of me that I didn’t know existed or I had hid away for a long time. I can still hear this water moving, a serene combination of rushing waters and trickling streams. The sound perfectly loud enough to drown out the internal noise in my head, forcing me to be present in the moment and take in my surroundings fully.
Today I am grateful for simply waking up in this beautiful world. Waking to the city sounds combined with little birds chirping and the tree outside my window fluttering in the breeze. “When you feel life coming down on you like a heavy weight,
When you feel this crazy society adding to the strain,
Take a stroll to the nearest water's edge, remember your place,
Many moons have risen and fallen long, long before you came,
So which way is the wind blowing
What does your heart say.”
