My friends recently told me about this cake recipe shared by @buzzfeedtasty
that used mayonnaise in it! My first reaction was obviously a big fat 'yuck, no!' Cause how can you put something like mayonnaise in a cake?! But when I got thinking about it, it did make sense. Mayonnaise is essentially eggs and oil with a little vinegar, aerated. All these are ingredients that are used in cakes readily!
So i began reading about it from a few different websites, the buzz feed video, and this book - The Cake Bible by Rose Levy Beranbaum (yes, I finally bought it!!!) and due to the hype around it, i felt like its a recipe i should definitely try.
And so i did. But I used eggless mayonnaise instead of an egg based mayonnaise (cause i don't work with eggs at home)
And I'm not blown away by the taste as such, its tastes like any average chocolate cake. But what's surprising is that it actually works. The oil in the mayonnaise amongst other things results in a reallllllly soft and moist cake!
But paired with any chocolate frosting of your choice, this could easily be a family get together recipe! All in all, this good, easy and no fuss recipe is not something i'd make very often, but it sure is helpful for those lazy days when you don't feel like putting in too much effort into the cake!
