I got pretty annoyed at the trees today, and don't even get me started on the wild blueberries.
We were expecting to clear the trees and enter the meadow about halfway through our hike, which we thought was just over 9 miles. We didn't get to the lake and meadow until about mile 8, and the hike ended up being 12. The trees just. kept. going.
It's amazing how expectations can completely change your experience of a thing, isn't it?? This forest was GORGEOUS. So majestic and still and untouched. We crossed clear creeks and mossy trickles, we climbed rocks and hills, we heard elk bugling from the other side of the hill.
But, because we were expecting a meadow, we almost missed the beauty surrounding us.
I'm so very glad I saw this view and remembered to find the beauty in where I currently am. I stopped dismissing the forest in annoyance that it wasn't a meadow, and immersed myself in the peace and beauty of the forest where I stood.
Have goals, have dreams, have an end destination, but don't get do attached to what you expect that you miss the good things along the way.
