Started my day with a #meetandgreet
brunch with some pretty awesome faculty, administrators, and about 25 students currently enrolled at my #almamater
Was thrilled to meet, not one, but two students passionate about reproductive rights/ justice. So many students studying bio and even more singing in one acapella group or another. I was blown away by the diversity in the room. Talking to these students I was reminded of my college self-- naive, awkward, fun loving, curious, eager to grow up, eager to stay young, silly, smarty pants, unsure, shy, outspoken, sleep deprived, competitive, and boy crazy. I would say I miss that grrrl, but so much of her is still alive, in part, bc I had some great mentors to help me make sense of all of who I was back then. I hope I can pay it forward and support these two young women and any other young #woc
from Williams and my highschool -- @hchs.2020.
Between mid terms, the threat of gun violence and campus rape, an insecure job market, the escalating cost of higher education, being away from home, the Freshman 15, making friends, being accepted.... these kids have SO MUCH to navigate. I'm glad I went when I went, but hoping I can help some teen, 20-something make some sense of all the crazy and not so crazy that is high school and college.
