Middle School's Grandparents' & Special Friends' Day was a whole lot of fun! We'll continue the fun tomorrow when we welcome our Early Childhood & Elementary School friends.
As a grandparent or special friend of an Orchard student, you are an important part of our community! Thank you for joining us on Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day to meet Orchard's new Head of School, Dr. Sherri Helvie, visit classrooms, and have fun learning!
My mom finds the cutest little teacher gifts for me. I absolutely adore them and that’s all I ever want😍❤️🍎
120 STRONG • For what feels like an eternity (but has really only been since March), I have had the privilege of standing shoulder to shoulder with thousands of Kentucky’s educators and public employees as we’ve pushed back against the attacks on public education spearheaded by our Governor and enabled by his R lackeys in the legislature. From helping organize sickouts in my district, to speaking on panels about organizing, to rallying at school board meetings and on the steps of the Capitol, I have held the line with countless others and formed friendships that will last forever. (SWIPE) Thousands of teachers have been awakened and now realize the magnitude of their own political agency. I do not believe there is a “blue wave” coming in Kentucky—-but more of a purple one. Republican or Democrat, i know that those who stood against public education and labor will have to answer for the name calling, belittling, and flat out unacceptable behavior towards teachers and public employees that’s happened in the public discourse over the past year. • Today, the hearings for the illegal pension bill that passed this last session began. While we wait for the outcome over the next month or so, I sleep well at night knowing that teachers and public employees will show up for each other (again) on November 6th to vote out all of those electeds who haven’t shown up for us. #RememberinNovember #120strong #redfored

Congratulations to Crystal Lake Middle School for being one of our 10 national finalists! Students at Crystal Lake were inspired by their success in the Middle School Kindness Challenge and worked hard to bring kindness to their community. With the help of parents and staff they donated 300 backpacks to students and donated over 8 pallets of food to a local non-profit. You can learn more about their commitment to kindness by reading their blog post in our bio! #fosterkindness #kindnesschallenge #teaching #middleschool #middleschoolteacher #education
I was having a frustrating day at work, and then I saw all the positive messages my students posted on each other’s lockers ☺️ #bethechange #schoolpsych
In addition to designing residential homes in my future, I also want to help underprivileged schools in Detroit raise enough money to give their students what they deserve. This is by far my favorite and most hands on project I have done up to this point. I worked with Spain Elementary - Middle School in Detroit to create a hypothetical lounge space for the students that attend this school. All of my designs are made on sketchup
Please read this long post to see what I did with the project & slide to see the before and after pictures. The before is what the extra rooms in the school’s basement currently look like as opposed to my design (what should be) ❤️
Besides interior design, kids are my main priority and passion in my life, especially helping those that are underprivileged. Spain is a Detroit public school that does not have the resources to meet their students needs or wants. One thing I noticed immediately when I walked in the building was the students all piled up on a table in the middle of the hallway waiting to be picked up. No chairs, no couches, just a table.
I was grateful to have the opportunity to go to one of the classrooms and talk one on one and in a group with the students. These kids have to wait after school for up to an hour (or more) and have no where to go while they wait. This is why they make use of the table in the hallway
When I found this out, I knew I wanted to design a lounge for them. It is an example of “what should be” as opposed to what currently is. I wanted this space to be one that the kids feel that have some freedom and ability to express themselves creatively, while being encouraged to do homework. This is why there are desks for homework, computers / printers, art panels where they can paint, color, etc, and the students art work is hung on the walls so they feel the space is their own.
While I know this would cost a lot of money, I hope to one day be able to raise enough to make this happen for the students at this school. They deserve it and I want them to know there are people out there who do want to help.

It’s throwback Thursday and @ash_le_chic
is staying the night at my house tonight. We’ve known each other for a little while. So you’re welcome for these #tbt
I ❤️ projects!!! When kids have time to loudly collaborate, problem-solve, and create instead of quietly filling out a packet, my heart is full! Day 1 of our “Tell-Tale Heart” Trial project starts now!
We got to interview the owner of The French Bakery in Delray Christian Backenstrass, and received some great tips from Emmy winner reporter, Vanessa Medina! How cool is that?!
We want to give a special shout out to KP Public Affairs for supporting our 2nd Annual “Harvesting Dreams to Reality” fall fundraiser on Sep. 28th!
All funds raised will directly support the IYT Capitol internship program in which IYT students will have the unique opportunity and summer experience to intern at the state capitol.
Support future Capitol student interns by purchasing a 🎟 in our bio‼️
GRIT means never giving up. Having resiliency in the face of adversity. Love, grit, action: these aren’t just words. These principles are both goals and standards by which our school culture is defined in every way. What does grit mean to you? #realmcharterschool #lovegritaction #teachers
Used jigsaw groups to learn about algebraic expressions this morning!
