Portraits are to daily faces
as an evening West
To a fine pedantic sunshine
in a satin vest. ~ Emily Dickinson
Comparing the harsh light of day and lack of attention to detail to the magnificence of the artistic evening Western Sky...it is how I compare a regular photograph to a portrait. I see my subjects through an artist's eye, and thoroughly enjoy the creation of something unordinary, unexpected, and with a bit of mystery....each subject bringing their own palette of colors and details. 🙂
I first met Ashlyn early one morning while at the gym. She was 14 at the time, and we were both highly focused on the task at hand. She caught my eye and, while I do not ordinarily do this, gave her my card because I felt she needed to be in front of my camera. Fast forward a few years, she is now a senior at Blair Oaks High School, and I am working on her senior portraits. We have created magic before, and I am honored to have been chosen to create them for her.
I hope you enjoy this unexpected moment from last night's session. :)
