⭐What's a craving and how is it different from hunger? ⭐⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 😤 I get really annoyed when I see people talking cravings and how to stave them off because 9 times out of 10 they are not REALLY talking about cravings at all. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⭐⭐⭐ They are talking about hunger. ⭐⭐⭐⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It may not be hunger when it's particularly convenient or hunger when it's a commonly held acceptable time for eating but it's still hunger. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💛 Cravings are a need to eat a SPECIFIC kind of food. No other food will do and if you do eat an alternative food the craving doesn't go away, even if you are feeling full. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💛 Hunger means that you can eat ANY food and feel satisfied. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💛 Cravings often occur if you are pregnant OR if you are on a restrictive diet and you begin to feel the need to eat a food that you are denying yourself. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💛 Hunger is a physical need to eat and can be a very obvious physical feeling and sometimes accompanied by a growling tummy! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I teach my clients to recognise and respond to hunger rather than override them and then to use intuitive eating to know when and what to eat. Hey, you, scrolling through your phone chomping on that burrito. Save this post to read later, and put down the phone! Trust me. Finish that delicious burrito free of distractions. Not only does eating without distractions make your food taste better (anecdotally), but it also helps you better control portions, minimizes mindless snacking later in the day, and brings you more joy (factually). Did you know that 1 in 3 people reported that they actually can't dine without their cell phone?! Those suckers are addicting, so let me give three good reasons to ditch it and enjoy your meals free of distraction (this includes the TV, too). 1️⃣ It causes you to eat more at mealtime. A meta-analysis study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reviewed 24 studies on eating habits and distractions. They found that eating when distracted produced a moderate increase in immediate intake of food. Why? Your brain isn't registering what you are putting into your body, slowing the ability for your brain to receive the signal that you are full. I guess it is true what your granny said. Your eyes are bigger than your stomach. 2️⃣It causes you to snack more later in the day. In the same vain as the point above, not paying attention to the food we are eating means your brain doesn't have a chance to truly register what you've just ingested and this carries over the span of the day. Our memory plays an important role in appetite control and satiation. So, if you are distracted at mealtime, chances are you will feel like you "need" a snack more often and sooner. 3️⃣It steals your joy. One study published in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology found that participants who brought their phones to the dinner table felt more distracted and reported lower enjoyment if they used their phones than if they did not. So while you can use that awesome smart phone to connect with people around the world, it is an important reminder to prioritize connecting with those at your dinner table first. Another study found that 9 out of 10 couples felt their spouse was ignoring them in favor of technology.

We looove corn at our house.🌽 It is a summer staple and boys are so excited when we grill it. I think it might be their favorite, even winning over ice-cream😂 But people often avoid corn thinking it is unhealthy and does not have any nutrients. It has plenty of nutrients and the only kind you should avoid is if it is highly processed (as with any food). Corn is full of insoluble fiber which helps with bowl movement and is the food for healthy gut bacteria. It is also filled with some vitamins B, vitamin C, magnesium and potassium. Carbless-Crust Protein MEATZA 🍕🍕🍕 Here is this week’s low carb / keto friendly pizza. I used my chicken thigh pizza crust (recipe below) and topped with orange peppers, heirloom tomatoes, burrata cheese, grass-fed @chomps meat, green chilis, and arugula. If you’re craving pizza, this healthier guy will not disappoint!! . To make the low-carb protein crust: . 1.Preheat your oven to 425F. . 2.Take 3/4 lb boneless + skinless chicken thighs and OPTIONAL: trim off excess fat. . 3.Put the chicken thighs in a food processor and process well. . 4. Once processed, add in 1 large egg, 1 tsp sea salt, .5-1 tsp black pepper, 2 tsp Italian seasoning, 1/2 cup asiago or parmesan cheese, and mix well. I also add 1 tsp turmeric and 1 tsp garlic powder, but not required. . 5.Grab a cookie sheet or pizza pan and lay down the crust with a very thin layer of the mixture. I laid down parchment paper to make the cleanup easier. 6.Bake for 22-27 minutes, or until golden crispy. Keep an eye on the oven starting the 20 minute mark as ovens vary. . To make the rest of the pizza: . 7.Remove crust from the oven, put on your sauce + toppings, then put back in the oven for another 7-15 minutes depending on your toppings. . 8. Made from the seed of the cacao tree, it is one of the best sources of antioxidants on the planet.⠀ - Dark chocolate is rich in cacao solids, which contain compounds known as flavanols. At high levels, cacao flavanols have been shown to help lower blood pressure and cholesterol, improve cognition and possibly lower the risk of diabetes! 🍫Dark chocolate has the highest amount of cacao flavanols, while milk chocolate has way less & white chocolate has none. - Cacao powder also is loaded with minerals- including calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and zinc.⠀ - Shoot for a percentage of at least 70% cacao. The higher the percentage, the more flavanols and the less sugar and fat. ⠀ - However, just like anything, it is best In moderation! It is said to keep it at about 1oz (or 150 cals) of dark chocolate daily.⠀ - So, for me, if I'm craving a little chocolate, I have 2-3 little squares with a side of strawberries or raspberries. Feeling those make-ahead summer lunches lately, with lots of garden fresh veg & herbs! This super simple summer salad will keep everyone in your house, and their gut microbiota well fed! Simply cook 3/4 cup bulgur as per instructions. Slice 1 red onion thinly, place in a bowl of vinegar to soak and pickle while the bulgur cooks. In a bowl combine: Juice of 1 lemon 1/4 cup olive oil 1/4 cup tahini 1 minced clove garlic 1 tsp cumin 1 tsp sugar 1/2 tsp pepper 1/2 tsp salt To the sauce add: 1/2 cup parsley, chopped 1/2 cup dill, chopped 1 can chickpeas rinsed, drained 2 cups chopped summer veg (I used red pepper, cucumber, radish). Once bulgur is cooked and cooled, add to the bowl of veggies and sauce. Drain onions and add to the salad. Toss together and serve with a sprinkling of fresh herbs! LET’S TALK ABOUT THE EATING EXPERIENCE . But first I will confirm 👉🏻that is #pasta you see on my plate. . I’m constantly encouraging clients to create an experience, no matter how small or how fast the meal or snack. - - - How does one do this? Here are five 🖐🏻 points to keep in mind. 📍It starts with the food you have on hand. Unless you are a bachelor with only beer 🍺 in the fridge, I’m guessing you keep a few staples stocked. {If you don’t, you can find my grocery guide through my link 🔗in bio.} 🖍Choose more than one color. Even with a snack! I find few things more disturbing than a plate full of white food. I have clients who will confirm. 🍎Add texture. The options are limitless based on your individual likes. You can choose from fruit, berries, nuts, seeds, pasta, beans, a slaw mix and so much more. 🥩Eat protein with each meal or snack. So many of them have been telling me how they are feeling empowered in their lives to try new things, show up in situations that used to intimidate them, and just be more present in what they are doing. They’ve found that by moving their bodies regularly they have built up more respect for their bodies and themselves. I love it!! *********************************************Health is a broad term and it’s personal and individual and we are all just trying to do our best. Something that can be helpful in making choices is to really ask yourself if what you are doing is adding to your life, or is it in reality, limiting your life. Is the way you are eating holding you back from going to lunch with friends, or experiencing new foods while on vacation, or holding you back from making cookies with your kids. Is your exercise routine so rigid and intense that you can’t alter it for a brunch date, or you are so tired in the afternoon that you can’t play with your kids because you are overtraining. ********************************************* This also applies to mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Are you so focused on physical health that the other areas of your life are suffering. Health is much more than just our physical bodies and it’s certainly more than our weight!! You deserve an abundant full life. So if your health pursuits are hindering that full life, have that courage to make those adjustments necessary and make sure what you are doing is in line with your values, what truly matters to you, and living a meaningful life. ❤️

I consistently try to keep my meals simple and nutritious. 🌱 No need for fancy, time-consuming recipes. Just cut and cook a few veggies, potatoes, legumes, quinoa, etc. and place them in a plate. 🥗 Here I have a baked sweet potato, garbanzo beans, cherry tomatoes, quinoa, cucumbers, avocado, and cilantro. Squeeze some lime on top and you are golden! ✨ This is what a healthy meal looks like! 💪🏼

Anger with myself for letting myself get to that point. Sadness because I know how unhappy the girl on the left was. Empowerment because I can see how far I’ve come. And forgiveness, this is the biggest thing for me. I have been working on forgiving myself of my faults and mistakes in the past. Letting go and forgiving those who have hurt me in one way or another, which led to me carrying around extra negative energy within me, only holding myself back. This is a journey like no other. It’s as mental as it is physical. And while it’s easier to run, workout, and i am physically healthier. Do you ever find yourself with more ripe bananas than you know what to do with?? Freeze them!! Here’s what I do with mine🍌 . 1. Add some frozen banana to smoothies for a super creamy consistency. 2. Make banana popsicles by putting half of a banana on a popsicle stick, freeze, dip in melted dark chocolate and coconut oil and freeze again, allowing the chocolate to harden. 3. Make banana and nut butter bites by placing 1 tsp of nut butter in between two banana slices and freeze for the perfect bite-sized sweet and salty treat! 4. Use your frozen bananas in baking! Banana bread, banana nut granola, you name it! Allow them to thaw and mix into your favourite recipes. .
