In 2012 she was closing the summer olympics alongside other british models like Naomi, Kate, Lily, David etc. This has also been the same year she debuted for the VSFS. In 2013 cover of 'The Edit' Jourdan spoke out about the constant discrimination she would face in the industry. As many agents would always tell her clients 'didn't want any more black models' or telling her to be happy being the only black model casted. However for Jourdan it wasn't an act of joy but more of injustice. Why should she be happy to be the only black girl. She would go to castings and see many models of color but then when it came to the actual show she would be the only one or one of two. She didn't shy about speaking out about the issues on social media like twitter. Also a current theme would be that she would get cancelled from shows for her boobs which happened a lot but especially for the Dior hc show 2013. The same year she won the model of the year award. Continuing on in 2014 Jourdan was signed a beauty contract with maybelinne new york and being listed on of the top earning models of 2014. Additionally she was declared an icon by models.com since she appeared on the 'Top 50 Womens' List seven consecutive years. In 2015 she was declared one of the 'New Supers' and won an Inspiration Award for raising awareness of Sickle-Cell disease (which her son has as well) and diversity in the model industry. She walked in 2013 and 2014 again for the VSFS but was happy not to be casted again as they dropped Rihanna after her iconic walk. I mean we all know that iconic tweet she made about it. She was often featured with other celebrities, making herself also known in the celebrity world. In 2017 she launched her own collection Missguided. Now she is 27 and still walks for shows occasionally like the Off-White SS18 show or Miu Miu. There can be so much written avout her but i will leave it at that⚡⚡
I always like to know about the story of models. Like how they started out and developed. This is still one of my fav shots of Jourdan.
So Jourdan Dunn was discovered by Storm Models at the age of 16 at a local primark. Switching to Women Management she started out NYFW by debuting at the Marc Jacobs show. And going on to walk for Mcqueen, Hermés... 2 years into her career she appeared on her first vogue cover which was a Vogue Italia issue featuring three other models : Naomi Campbell, Sessilee Lopez and Liya Kebede for the legendary Black Cover by Steven Meisel. Few months later she grazed the runway for the Issa Show in which she closed the show alongside Naomi and Issa herself. "words
cannot describe how it felt…I want to relive it all." 2008 was surely her year as she became the first Black model to strut the Prada runway in Milan’s Fashion Week since Naomi Campbell in 1997. She became the new face of GAP, walked 75 shows during SS08 including Louis Vuitton and Valentino and was featured in iD, Dazed, Vogue, Elle and more. She was also announced one of the 10 Newcomers. The same year she won the model of the year award and appeared on British Vogue, being the first black model to get a solo cover after Naomi in 2002. At the age of 19 Dunn became pregnant and gave months later on birth to Riley. At first she kept it secret but she decided she loved how supportive the model industry was and showed her stomach during the Jean Paul Gauthier show. Just 10 weeks after she gave birth she returned to the catwalk. [To be continued...]
