Healthy eating out tips 🍄
🍴If possible try to google the restaurant you will be eating at's menu to have an idea of what food they serve before hand so you can pick you healthier choice.
🍴Opt for water/ diet cold drinks instead of fizzy, sugary drinks or alcohol.(Alcohol can contain a lot of sugars depending on what you drink) 🍴Ask to have the sauce on the side of your dish if it comes with it, this way you may add as much as you want if you want it.
🍴You can ask them for a grilled/roasted options instead of fried.
🍴Load up on water if you arrive hungry.
🍴With your side dishes you can opt for roasted veg, salad, roast potatoes, rice or sweet potato instead of regular fries or mashed potato.(Depending on your diet/lifestyle choices)
🍴Most meals are a lot larger than the regular meals we eat, so taking the other half for lunch the next day to ensure you don't overeat.

| What is Healthy? | I feel like classifying things as “healthy” or “not healthy” has caused enough psychological damage that it is no longer acceptable to demonise foods. Don’t you agree? 🤔⠀
As a dietitian for over 10 years now, I have evolved in the way I approach eating and nutrition especially when it comes to clients wanting to “lose weight”. My clients’ wellbeing and protecting them from all the BS weight loss gimmicks is my number one goal. My clients come in different shapes and forms, with different goals so my philosophy is to guide them towards that goal excluding any talk of numbers exclusively. My EATRAIN program is just that - training your body and mind towards a goal that is realistic and sustainable. 💪🏼Link in bio ☝🏼⠀
A side note of authenticity: I am definitely NOT a “diet-driven” calorie-counting advocate but I plan to continue to better my approach as so much psychological and emotional damage has been done thanks to the weight loss industry. Some HAES dietitians might find my approach contradicting to their philosophy and beliefs and by no means do I claim of being one, but the power of knowledge also applies to professionals and there is so much for us to learn in that area...⠀
📷 Some diet-advocates may call this not “clean-eating”, unhealthy, high carb...but these delicious and satisfying momos were a perfect, filling lunch made by some awesome people at Roots of Himalaya by @topdencatering
🙌🏼 You can order the meat, vegetarian, vegan or mixed box 😋⠀

A fellow wanderer and I finally worked our nomadic schedules out where we got to meet up for dinner. It had been a long time in the making. Such an awesome person. Shared an excellent bottle of wine, and I’m not a vino snob at all. Got to try a restaurant I had been wanting to visit for awhile. Just a really nice night all the way around. Got home and tossed my clutch on the table, took of my boots and started thinking....I know, uh oh. 😉 If you know me, you know I want to experience all that this life has to offer, as soon as possible, because it’s not guaranteed. Seeing my husband die, and the way he did, it woke me up somewhat. Made me want to see, smell, taste, hear and feel everything. All of it. But what if in all of my fury to tackle this world, I’m losing some of the things that make me kinda a kickass chick? I like to garden, decorate, cook, organize, fossil hunt. The list goes on and on, and being on the road, or on the go all of the time is prohibiting so many of the things I enjoy. Moderation is one of the main keys to life. IMHO. I’ve got to find a way to be ok with being still some. Must! But First! I need to finish my remaining six states.....lol. Then, I’m writing and resting darnit!

Had a cheat meal last night because I thought #moderation
. Worst idea ever. I have been REALLY feeling it the last 24 hours 😫 This @essentiallyketo
bar is the perfect pick me up 😘 here’s to a better tomorrow!!
My lifting class ended today....🙁 Sad but I am very proud of all my student’s progress and hard work. There were times that I doubt myself and wished I could do more as an instructor. The student’s feedback gave me so much encouragement to keep teaching and improving. I am glad they found my class interesting and welcoming. I hope I was able to help them to find the joys of physical activity. 😊 Next week, onto a new batch of students eager to learn the ways of lifting. #posttomotivate #liftwithjun #motivated
Was anyone else’s workout motivation a bit in the gutter today? Mine sure was, but after making a pact with my coworkers to get the fitness deal done, there was no turning back 😁 .
I didn’t feel like working legs or arms specifically, so settled on a back, chest and tricep workout from the @madeline_moves
app and it definitely did not disappoint 💪🏻 .
Shown here is the first circuit and it only got spicier 🌶 from there😅 Getting started is always the hardest part for me, but when I hit that first movement and break a sweat I’m always so glad I made time for the gym, you?
Macho nachos, twist soft serve, hot dog, caramel popcorn ball, apple pie, apple cider slushee, bucket o’ chocolate chip and crackle cookies 🤢
Snack ➡️ toast topper of peanut butter, strawberries and hemp seeds 😍😋 Also a sweet breakfast option 🙌 ✳️ What’s your favourite toast topper? ⤵️
What does 'everything in moderation' mean to you?
"Is she telling me to eat more cake?!" 🤔😧 No. What I'm telling you is to ask yourself:"Am I seeking moderation for balance or to eat less?" .
The definition of moderation is ‘the avoidance of excess or extremes’. But I feel like diet culture has hijacked this term to be code for restriction. “You can have cake”, they say, “but in moderation. And by moderation we mean the amount WE allow you”. No wonder we obsess about "weekly treats"! You can't truly find the balance that works for you & have a trusting relationship with food if you depend on someone else to tell you how much is “okay” to eat. Only YOU can know how much is enough for you.
The desire for moderation is a search for balance. When we're balanced we feel good. Your body knows what moderation is - if you learn to listen. Moderation isn’t found in the hour by hour or even day by day of our food choices. True balance is found in the bigger picture. If you are zoomed into a painting you will not see it, you will see muddled colors & will have difficulty making sense of it. But if you zoom out it will become clear to you what the bigger picture is.
Moderation for one person can be having an extra large slice of cake & then not thinking about cake again for the next 2 weeks. For someone else it may mean having some chocolate every day. Sure there are guidelines for what constitutes as a balanced eating pattern - but at the end of the day moderation will look different for everyone & only you can determine what it means & how it feels for you. Only you can be the expert of your body!
While my expertise is nutrition, my real job is to help YOU become the expert of your body - by guiding you to health through cultivating a healthy relationship with food & feeling empowered by your food choices, not afraid of them. If you're ready to make peace with food & be the expert (for good!), apply for 1:1 coaching & a free session. Link in my bio.
Moderation shouldn’t make you food obsessed (like waiting for the “treat” shabbos morning) it should feel good & contribute to a joyful relationship with food.
How do you feel about “moderation”?

Running and listening to @aubreymarcus
most recent podcast with Robert Greene. Another beautiful interaction that shines light on how to heal, to become more whole, and to stop kidding ourselves into thinking we can be defined by any one label. We are complex. We are so complex that we naturally simplify things to comprehend and understand. But you are lying to yourself when you view yourself or others as simple beings. We all have layers. We all have animalistic impulses, deeply ingrained habits and preferences, an inner-saboteur, and outlandish aggression that can lead to eruptions or be harnessed towards your higher desires as a congruent being. .
Our subconscious mind is at the helm approximately 95% of the time. Which means, we are driven by emotion. And sometimes we feel things we don’t understand or we have reactions that we then blame on whatever is present. But we have depth. And we are deeply influenced by every past moment, experience, thought, and whether we have processed the associated emotions or not. So much of what drives us is coming from deep beneath the surface. It is our fear, shame, envy and guilt that guides and directs our attention and energy most often. But when we acknowledge it, and embrace our humanness, our shadows and our layers, we cast light on what was dark and learn how to be a whole and integrated person. .
My view on cannabis is pretty much the same. To make something taboo is to couple it with shame, guilt, secrecy, and judgement. To bring things to the light is what encourages education, moderation, curiosity, and openness. I’m not saying everyone will choose to be a cannabis consumer, but my hope is that people will open their minds to see the complexity rather than settle for the stereotype. To embrace things in light is what elevates us to be the light. Happy legalization day #canada

I joke with my clients that no workout is complete until after they flex in the mirror. It’s only half a joke though. I want them to feel great about their bodies.
What they can do. And also how they look. I want them to be confident, to grow more confident. Also to be less self-conscious. Stand up tall. Chest up, shoulders back. You’ll feel powerful. Try it if you don’t believe me. See if you don’t feel it.

Hi Friends! I am so excited to be partnering with @healthyishfoods
to give away SIX boxes of their amazing cakes and frostings. Why do I think they are so great? -Each box allows you to make 4 SINGLE-SERVING cakes, so you can bake yourself a single portion of cake, frost it, and enjoy it without eating the entire cake. (I love that it encourages moderation.) 🍰
-These mixes are ORGANIC, something that is next to impossible in the baked goods market, and they’ve managed to be incredibly tasty!👊🏻
-Because you bake off individual servings, you are reducing landfill waste. (NO JOKE!) Did you know that desserts are one of the most wasted foods on the planet? I didn’t!💡
In each box, you get the cake mix and frosting-and mini baking cups-to make 4 cakes, so we’re talking 24 cakes my friends! And the flavors? Think Vanilla Bean with Vanilla Bean Frosting, Cocoa Brownie with Chocolate Frosting, Tangy Lemon with Vanilla Bean Frosting, Molten Chocolate Mini Cakes with Chocolate Frosting, Sweet Beet Mini Cakes with Vanilla Bean Frosting, and “Skinny” Vanilla Cakes with Vanilla Bean Frosting. 😋🍰🍋🍫🍋🍰♥️

Don’t be so hard on yourself!
From what I’ve seen, most of us in here are hard workers, people who set high expectations for ourselves and thrive off of being diligent and reaping the successes. I’m the same way; but in conjunction with that, a lot of us are super critical of ourselves - we’re essentially our own worst critic. •
All throughout the semester so far, I’ve been thinking to myself “You could be doing so much more. You could be working more, taking an extra class, working on other opportunities, etc.” In reality though, I now I’m not capable of doing more right now. My chronic insomnia keeps me from feeling my best physically a lot. For the first 2 months of school, I averaged 4-5 hours of sleep a night. It’s better now, but I’m still not able to sleep like a normal person and it’s very sporadic. In turn, my mental and physical capacity are lowered, my stress is up, my anxiety increases (which makes my sleep worse - it’s a terrible cycle), and I just can’t handle as much as I would if I could sleep enough regularly. (I’ve been prescribed sleep medication - but don’t want to rely on them).
In addition to being a full time student, I have a job, work separately as a campus ambassador for a company, am an involved in a few student organizations. Yeah it’s not that much in comparison to some people. But it’s what I can do right now with my conditions and I have to learn not to overly criticize myself when I know if I did any more, I wouldn’t be physically and mentally able to handle it. Maybe I am making excuses. Maybe I’m not “strong enough” to others. But to me, I’m placing my physical and mental health as a priority. •
If you’re in any situation like I am, don’t be so difficult on yourself. If you truly know you’re doing what you can actually handle (there is a stark difference between doing what is right for you and making excuses), that’s more han enough. You’re doing your best and don’t deserve your own never-ending harsh criticism. Don’t compare what you’re doing to what I’m doing or what anyone else is doing. Be kind to yourself. Put your mental and physical health first ❤️
It doesn’t get much better than a spread like this and the brilliant friends sitting around it 😍Food is so much more than just a bunch of nutrients. We spend so much time focusing on the importance of eating for physical health when the role of food in keeping your social and emotional health TIP TOP deserves just as much attention. Because HOW GOOD is getting excited for pavlova at Christmas, wrapping ice cold hands around a hot choccie, trying street food you’ll never be able to pronounce, getting messy in the kitchen with a new recipe, ordering ‘one of everything’ over long catch ups with old friends, celebrating Friday with wine and cheese, going home for Mums roast vegetables and spending hours choosing an ice cream flavour on a sticky summers day. So whatever you eat today, I hope you ENJOY it 🍦🍉💃🥂☀️
Spinach, cheese and fish is a pretty killer combination #belissima
Don’t believe all those miracle weight loss ads! Such an important message ❤️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I need to address this. I posted this picture nearly two years ago with a caption revealing how miserable chasing the body on the left had made me. How it was never enough. How hitting the goal weight NEVER made me happy. And how much better it felt to finally embrace my softness.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Over the last month more and more of you have been sending me the second picture after seeing it advertised online. Exactly the same image, but swapped round to look like a before/after weight loss story, with the words underneath translating to "Soon this weight loss trick will be secret", encouraging people to click and buy the miracle product to get the same transformation.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yep, the picture I posted to show that diet culture is bullshit, has been taken by the diet industry to sell their bullshit. And you know what? I'm not even mad. Because all this does is further prove what I've been saying all these years: that diet culture is a lie. That the images the diet industry sells us aren't real. And that there is no miracle weight loss product. It's a multi-billion dollar scam, and it's the promise of happiness when you hit the 'after' picture that sells it. So let me repeat something I wrote in the original picture: "The truth is that no goal weight will make you happy. No dress size will take away your self hatred. No calorie count will make you feel good enough. And NONE of it is worth losing yourself, your sanity, your happiness for. You are so much more than anything that can be counted, weighed, or measured". And hey, I guess if the diet industry is SO threatened by body positivity that it has to steal our images and spin them as their own, we must be doing something right. 💁💜💙💚🌈🌞⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

◾Before I Was A Mum...◾ I was determined screen time would be limited to 20 mins MAX.
My son is very adventurous and loves the outdoors and we are always doing activities together...BUT...how the hell do mums do it minus a TV on the sick days/tired days/cbf days???? Not to mention my kid still hates the car after short periods so a DVD player has been s game changer.
Now I've discovered this post and BAM...I'm a good mother after all hahaha

I’ve been in such a funk this week. Anxiety through the roof, debilitating tension, horrible crippling back and hip pain, insomnia, and my eating has been way off. I’ve been taking it one step and one day at a time. I’ve taken baths, I’ve taken my heavy duty meds, I’ve taken time off FB and IG, and I eventually took time off WW. Today it hit me that it’s been too long since my last workout and I took a moment while my unhealthy lunch was cooking to do 10 minutes on the elliptical. Just 10. And you know what happened? My muscles loosened, my anxiety started to fade, my appetite decreased, and my mood lightened. My hip hurt like a mother though so I only did 10 min but those 10 minutes turned my day around enough that I decided to take a walk around my neighborhood while my husband attempts to feed our little girl. I needed a little more silence in my life today so if this is how I get it then I’m ok with that. Happy hump day friends, hoping our week only goes up from here 🤞

PS: you don’t have weak “willpower” or a lack of “self-control” because you have the urge to eat EVERYTHING in site in the evening.
It’s not your willpower or your self-control (in my eyes willpower and self-control are both BS words) that is causing these late night over eating episodes, it’s most likely one of these 3 things:
(oh & btw these late night snacks are nothing to be ashamed about or feel guilty around…. It is OKAY)
1. You aren’t eating enough during the day. your body is calling for calories. Take note of this, and add a couple more snack during the day tomorrow and see how you feel at night.
2. You aren’t eating foods that satisfy you. If all you’re eating during the day is vegetables, boiled chicken breast and quinoa (foods that aren’t satisfying your cravings) you beat you’re going to indulge on the sweets and chips when you get home (again no shame and it’s totally OKAY to eat sweets and chips- I eat one or the other everyday) but I guarantee you’ll feel better having a bowl of chips after lunch than having the whole bag before bed.
3. THIS ONE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT: You are distracting yourself or numbing from your day. Maybe someone said something triggering at work/school/on social, maybe you’re exhausted and don’t even want to think about the things you have to do before tomorrow so you instead you grab for something yummy to distract you or to numb out. It happens, and again its okay!
Do you have a tendency of indulging at night? If so, I invite you to become aware of maybe why you are and to try eating more during the day, add satisfying foods into ALL your meals or using a healthy alternative to your problems (yoga, going for a walk, talking about it with someone you love, journalling)!

... we pasta 🍝. Pasta is too often written off as “bad”, but the reality is that it can be a deliciously nutritious grain when: 1️⃣ we use whole grain or plant-based noodles, 2️⃣ are mindful about amounts of high-fat sauces / proteins / and toppings, and 3️⃣ incorporate plenty of veggies. 💯 #healthified
