Confession: this is not my table.
I have never set a table that looked this good, to be honest.
Our dinner table is stained in places where people "forgot" to wipe their spills. The paint is chipping in places from when people DID wipe their spills. Our plates are the Corelle I swore my family would never have. You get a fork, or a spoon if we're having soup. No knife, and napkins are handed out on an as needed basis.
Nope, our meals are not fancy.
But we do have family dinner.
We sit together and talk about our day.
We remind our boys (repeatedly!!) to stop burping at the table (maybe that lesson will stick soon...) Family dinner doesn't have to be fancy to be meaningful.
If you struggle to get dinner on the table, be sure to listen to this week's podcast with @jazzythings
for awesome tips on how to get dinner on the table so you can have this not-always-fancy, but always worth it experience too 😘

I recently looked up the definition of the word "nourish" and here's the definition: "provide with the food or other substances necessary for growth, health, and good condition." We understand that we need to feed our bodies to stay healthy and strong.
But what are we doing to feed our souls?
This is why I'm so passionate about self care for moms!
Nourishing your soul is going what is necessary for you to grow, be healthy and in good condition spiritually, mentally and in every other way!
Being with friends, taking a bath, watching the sunrise, snuggling my kids, reading a great book, kissing my husband, eating dark chocolate- these nourish my soul and keep me going!
What nourishes your soul?

So happy and relieved right now!
I am working on a new book about self care and I had just started chapter 7 when I found a great story I wanted to use in chapter one.
When I searched for it in my documents, it was gone. And chapter 3 was gone. And chapter 4 was gone too.
And emptied from the trash.
With no backup.
So much frustration and tears! I was about ready to take it as a sign that I'm not supposed to write this book! I was praying that somehow those chapters would show up and I could get them back!
After spending tons of time on it... I found a program that is able to search in my computer and I GOT THEM ALL BACK!! My book writing will go on!!! #momswhoknow #momswhoknowpodcast

The primary song, "A Child's Prayer" has been running through my mind all week. Maybe because our primary sacrament meeting presentation is this Sunday. 😀
This is a favorite song. When I was in high school, my sisters and I would sing it for my mom. Now I only have one sister that had musical talent, and she would play it on the piano (but saxa phone was her strength) and my younger sister and I would do our best at singing it. But still my mom loved it (I think, she may correct me 😂). Now, with a few more years of experience under my belt, I think I know why. This is one of those songs, like "I Am a Child of God", with a simple, but so very powerful message.
The first line of the first verse often comes when I am troubled and my heart aches. "Heavenly Father are you really there?" But, thankfully, the second verse quickly responds, "Pray, He is there. Speak, He is listening. You are His child. His love now surrounds you." What more important lesson do we need in our lives than this:
1. You ARE a child if God
2. He HEARS your prayers
3. He LOVES you
What primary songs have brought comfort to you or strengthened you testimony?

I am loving having a toddler boy again.⠀
Every single truck or car we see, he yells out "vroom!"⠀
He can hear the garbage truck from a block away and he drags me to the door to go and see it.⠀
He loves to sit and watch cars on the road or ride around the block with his Daddy on the Vespa.⠀
I didn't think I would ever get to enjoy a toddler again; I am soaking in every moment!⠀

I have started into the war chapters of Alma.
Do you struggle with them like I do?
Today's study was in Alma 43. Moroni is chosen as captain to lead them against the Lamanites, who are led by former Nephites, the Amalekites and Zoramites. These former Nephites have an intense hatred of the Nephites. This intense hatred causes them to fight with "great courage and strength" (vs 43), even "like dragons" (vs 44). The Nephites, however, "were inspired by a better cause" (vs 45). They received strength from the Lord and fought for:
- their homes 🏡
- their wives 👩❤️👨
- their children 👨👩👧👦
- their liberty - their church
- their rite to worship 🙏
So why is it important that this was included in the Book of Mormon for our day?
We fight a battle daily against the Adversary.
Like the Nephites we can prepare our own weapons and breastplates to defend ourselves. We can study the scriptures, pray, and live so that the Holy Ghost is our companion.
Like the Nephites we can rely on and follow the council from our living prophet.
Like the Nephites we can be "inspired by a better cause". Like the Nephites we can pray to the Lord for strength.
What is your better cause? What is your reason for resisting temptation? What is your hope?
Mine- Eternal life with my Father in Heaven, my Savior, and my family

We rise by lifting others. ⠀
Lately, I have been trying to really "do unto others." When someone does something great, I try to thank them.⠀
When I see something interesting on social media, I comment on it.⠀

This is how I work from home...⠀
hair pulled back, comfy t-shirt, yoga pants and a baby on my lap...⠀
Constant interruptions, trying to find time for baby and work, thinking about keeping my house clean(maybe I'll actually clean it tomorrow)...⠀
Loving the flexibility and being there for all the little moments with all my kids. ⠀
Life is good!⠀

I thought my family was complete with four kids. I was getting old and I didn't feel a need to have another one (even though my kids were begging us to have another!). Things were good. ⠀
Our youngest was 7 and we were out of the baby stage.⠀
Then, we found out that our family was not complete and we were going to have another little baby boy!⠀
This podcast talks about what that experience was like for me as an older mom, with a few scary moments along the way. ⠀
What would your reaction be if you found out you were pregnant when you weren't expecting it??⠀

Sundays are a day for me to really slow down and do things differently.⠀
We go to church. We spend time with family. The house is quieter. The day is slower. It's a peaceful break from the craziness of our days.⠀
After a good Sunday, I feel refreshed and ready for the week ahead.⠀
I love Sundays! What are your Sundays like?⠀

Kids’ nutrition is just as important, if not more important, than ours!
Growing kids need to fuel their bodies all day long as they are growing, learning and of course, running around with all of their crazy energy!
It is hard to get the right amount of fruits, veggies, proteins and ever other food group in their bodies - whether it be because they are picky eaters or just because our lives are so busy that we just don’t provide it consistently.
How about inserting a delicious shake into their day to pack them full of all this goodness?! It is a great substitute for breakfast on busy school days or as an afternoon snack for the kiddos who go right from school to an activity or even after dinner as a snack if your kid is one who has the munchies before bed!
Comment below if your kids could benefit from having a boost of nutrition during the day.
You might not believe it from my Instagram feed, but I rarely take pictures of myself 😆⠀
I'm always the one behind the camera!⠀
I asked my 15 year old daughter to take pictures of me since we were out in this picturesque place.⠀
Her helpful picture taking hints: "Mom, don't do that, you look like a dork" "Really, you're going to do that?" "Oh my gosh, Mom" (face palm) "Okay, smile!"⠀
Thanks for teaching me not to take myself so seriously! 😘⠀

Yesterday, in primary we talked a little about Naaman and Elisha in 2 Kings 5. Naaman was upset with the prophet, Elisha because he had provided such a simple solution to his request for how to be healed of his leprosy. He thought Elisha needed to come out to him and call down powers from heaven to heal him in a grand scene.
Thankully, the servant of Naaman recognized that the great miracle of being healed could happen because of simpley washing as the prophet had directed.
Naaman followed the prophet, Elisha's, instructions and was healed.
How often do we look for grand solutions to our heartaches or discouragement when daily prayer and scripture study are actually the solution? How much more willing are we to jump in and serve during a crisis that to simply minister each day?
What are the simple things you do that have big impact?
For me, my essential simple things are scripture study and exercise.

Gather together names of different kinds of professionals who will be able to help you if you need support postpartum. Include names of practitioners who have experience working with new moms. Research this stuff in advance. Maybe you will never need it! But if you do start to feel physical pain, depression or anxiety - or just scared and alone - it's so nice to know where to turn. You aren't alone. So many women (including myself) have faced the darkness and the messiness of new motherhood -- and have needed and received support.
New moms are biologically programmed to have wide open hearts, which means we feel emotional and vulnerable. Our babies need our hearts to be open so they can feel us and know us intimately. There's nothing wrong with feeling all these big feelings. You just need other humans to show up and help you feel safe. And you need to hear:
You're doing a wonderful job with your baby.
Do you know what kind of support you will need once your baby arrives? Planning in advance for how you will get that support makes a huge difference in mom's (and therefore baby's) emotional and physical wellness.
Get a FREE Survival Kit for New Moms Today!
(Link is in our profile!) Spend a little time here, thinking about these critical components of your new life and writing down all your solutions in advance, before you're sleep deprived!
Let us help you prepare - so you can feel your very best in the early weeks and months of new motherhood.

The podcast this week is all about parenting!⠀
I really liked Jeremy's take on parenting because it goes deeper than just dealing with behavior. He talks about building a strong relationship with your child and meeting them where they are.⠀
When I focus on what I want from my kids, I might get short term results. Lasting results come from a different focus, one that honors my kids as whole people.⠀
Jeremy talked about energy. and this concept stood out to me. our kids need energy from us one way or another- how are they going to get it? I want that to be positive and loving energy.⠀
What stood out to you on the podcast this week?⠀

One of my favorite lines, and life's goal, is found in Alma 34:38 "live in thanksgiving daily"
It has been a favorite for several years and something I strive to do. Some days are better than others, and sometimes I just try to recognize what there is to be grateful for in a situation.
It truly is wonderful how much more peace and joy we find in life when we approach it with gratitude.
Lines at the grocery store are not too long when you look at your full cart with gratitude that you can afford groceries.
Not being able to find a parking spot 🚗 at meet the teacher night can be a grateful moment when you realize your kids go to a school where the parents show up for events and support their children.
Chocolate smeared on the walls by a 2 year old's little fingers isn't so bad because 1. It washes off. 2. It is chocolate, hopefully you got some too 🍫. 3. The smile on your two year old's face because that boy loves chocolate.
How do go about living in thanksgiving?

Hey friends I wanted to tell you about these laundry soap sheets I was introduced to last week. Someone on a UC parents board mentioned that the “mature” washing machines in his dorm don’t do well with laundry pods and struggle to break down the outside material, thereby leaving kind of a big mess and not really clean clothes. They suggested these laundry soap sheets.
I ordered a box on @amazon
45 sheets for about $11.50, and tried one this week. It worked perfectly! It’s not a piece infused with soap IT IS THE SOAP so the whole sheet dissolves. Kinda feels like think craft foam.
They are super light and won’t be a chore lugging down to the laundry room and should make washing a breeze for WB. Just thought I’d share my find.

😀As I sit here in a behavioral/neurological health office I can’t help but think that I never thought I’d be here. But I am beyond grateful that I am here today!! There is hope, there is help and there’s good, amazing people in the world who know how to help us with what we need!
We never know what’s going to come to us on our journey of life but I can say how grateful I am for my Savior who knows and understands me and each of you and helps us through!! We are all great and wonderful just the way we are. We are given opportunities to learn and grow if we’ll just look at the bumps in life as just that ~ opportunities 😉
I am so thankful to those who have smiled at me today and for the moments I was able to pass my smile on to other Moms and Dads who are going through this same thing with their kiddos ❤️

Happy Mother’s Day! Being a mom ain’t easy and it’s not always fun or exciting. It’s wearing the hats of a cook, a nurse, an Uber driver, a maid, a teacher, etc.... it’s feeling guilty for not doing things just right or wishing you could’ve said something different. It’s being there EVERY day. Motherhood isn’t a part time job and it’s not something you do once in awhile. I’m grateful that I can call myself not only a birth mother( anyone with a uterus and can have a baby) but a MOTHER ( the 24/7 kind who sacrifices her own wishes and desires. ) I just pray that all of my children know they are loved and I want them to be happy. I hope and pray that I’m setting a righteous example that even if they don’t see or pay attention to right now, one day they will remember the example I set and be an example to their own families one day. 🙏🏻💕 #imomsohard #momswhoknow #mothersday2018 #allmychildren
Happy Mothers Day! I wanted to share this little video I made highlighting some of the key points of one of my favorite talks by Sister Julie B Beck. "Mothers who know do less. They permit less of what will not bear good fruit eternally. They allow less media in their homes, less distraction, less activity that draws their children away from their home. Mothers who know are willing to live on less and consume less of the world’s goods in order to spend more time with their children—more time eating together, more time working together, more time reading together, more time talking, laughing, singing, and exemplifying. These mothers choose carefully and do not try to choose it all. Their goal is to prepare a rising generation of children who will take the gospel of Jesus Christ into the entire world. Their goal is to prepare future fathers and mothers who will be builders of the Lord’s kingdom for the next 50 years. That is influence; that is POWER." Full talk link in the profile.
Simplicity Parenting 101: kids actually do better with less. Less stuff that is. So, maybe this weekend, think “outside of the box” 😉 and get rid of all the toys. My kids colored a box for hours the other day. That’s more time than they’ve played with ALL of their toys in the basement combined. Happy Friday!!
So we’re in the war chapters of Alma and this particular scripture is when Captain Moroni tells Teancum to attack the city of Mulek which is currently possessed by the Lamanites. But Teancum “saw that is was impossible that he could overpower them while they were in their fortifications.”
So how do we liken this verse to us today?
Let’s say that the city of Mulek represents any place or circumstance today in which Satan has a powerful grasp and influence. That could be at a particular party we want to go to that has alcohol, or with a movie/TV show depicting violence and bloodshed, music with inappropriate lyrics, or even staying up too late and not getting enough sleep. (I know for me, when I don’t get enough sleep I am less patient with my kids and then we have more contention!) These are places or circumstances where Satan has an advantage over us. He is in his stronghold; his fortification. When we recognize places or circumstances in our lives that give Satan power, do we want to resist or avoid all together?
Years ago I heard the analogy of a cliff—would you rather avoid the cliff completely, or maybe just go look over the edge a little bit? What is the cost of avoiding the cliff versus resisting? We can also use the analogy with cookies—or in my case, Hershey kisses—if I saw a bowl of Hershey kisses sitting on my counter, it would be REALLY hard to resist eating them. I’d rather not even see them!
May we look at our lives and ask ourselves, “where does the adversary have an advantage over me?” And then, HOW can I gain power over the adversary?
Perhaps we need to delete some songs (😬, I know that is hard!) or change what we watch, what we read... but may we answer like Teancum and “abandon...and return...” to places that will keep us spiritually safe! This war we are raising our children in—and are in ourselves—is truly us against the adversary, so let’s not give him any power!

Sometimes I spice up my scripture study with a little treat. I'm so spoiled!
I've been trying to get to know my Savior better by following President Russell M. Nelson's assignment a year ago when he said, "Study everything Jesus Christ is by prayerfully and vigorously seeking to understand what each of His various titles and names means personally for you. For example, He really is your Advocate with the Father. He will take your side. He will stand up for you. He will speak on your behalf, every time, as you choose to be more like Him." I use the Topical Guide added to the back of the LDS version of the King James version of the Bible. Btw, Advocate has been my #1
favorite name! He is there rooting for me! Ooooo! My study time is an exciting time of my day.
