During a trip to Borneo Island, in the Indonesian part, I was able to see and photograph several fascinating and rare animals. One of them is the lutung or silvery langur (Trachypithecus cristatus cristatus). The lutung lives in groups from 9 to 30 individuals, generally with one alpha male, several females and their young's.
Due to the destruction of tropical forests in Borneo for oil palm plantation, the population of this primate is declining considerably and its presence on the island of Borneo has become rare.
Photographing these monkeys is not easy in the dense vegetation and their rapid movements between the trees. But with a bit of luck, a monkey stopped for a few seconds to watch me half hidden in the vegetation.
The photo was taken in the Tanjung Puting National Park, on the island of Borneo, Indonesia.
