Sunset in Monument Valley, AZ. West Mitten and Merrick Butte's.
Nov 11th, Two hours out of Page, straddling the state line between Arizona and Utah is Monument Valley tribal park. The color seems more vivid here, the red caused by iron oxide and the blue sky sooo deep. The sandstone buttes all have names, some anthropomorphic, others like these, have more obvious namesakes, East Mitten, West Mitten, etc. We drove the valley loop trail (which you can just barely see here), a rough dirt road that loops through and around the most scenic buttes, it took us about two hours to complete. Experiencing this landscape was very special, it has forever been what I pictured when I thought of the south western USA and now I have a true sense of scale for the place. #monumentvalley #roadtrip #desertmagic

Ventured to Monument Valley for the first time. What a wildly beautiful place!
Trying to make swipe work. Sunrise over Monument Valley from Hunts Mesa.
Hard to get a bad shot of sunrise in Monument Valley from Hunts Mesa. And still processing! More to come!
"Painted Sky" Monument Valley Sunset.
Tree with moon rising. On the way to Hunts Mesa. Harry stopped in the middle of the night and announced there was a tree off to our right...all I saw was pitch black night till he brought out his bright light. This image was lit with a single low level LED light.
Here we are on top of Hunt's Mesa with Little Monument Valley below us and Monument Valley behind us. Thanks @monumentvalleydinehphotography
for the great trip of a lifetime!!!
Spiderweb arch with @monumentvalleydinehphotography
, Harry checking his shot. Spiderweb arch is a cave natural arch eroded in DeChelly sandstone. It is located on the south rim of Hunts Mesa in Monument Valley, AZ. It takes a long rugged 4-WD trip to visit this remote arch.
Crescent moon rising during sunrise next to Merricks Butte in Monument Valley. Shot this morning from our room at The View hotel.
Nowhere says Wild West more cinematically than Monument Valley. Saddle up kids!
The full moon didn't make for great dark skies for stargazing, but the hogan we stayed in one night was still pretty amazing. Nestled deep in the Monument Valley Tribal park, we arrived at night (a little tricky to find... had to use latitude & longitude to get to the long drive that led to the hogan) but woke up to a rainbow of color via the surrounding mesas and sunrise. This was definitely one of my favorite parts of the trip! My husband would be proud... I kept the wood stove going all night (there was no electricity or plumbing here). Found on @airbnb
- I love non traditional lodging options when I travel!
The sunrise from the tops of Hunts Mesa is absolutely incredible. Light slowly starts to fill the canyon, and lights up the Mesa walls. Regardless of the 3 hours off road drive it’s takes to get here, it’s worth it every time!
