Guess who didn’t make it to the gym today? 🤷‍♀️ But you know what? I’m still able to move and make the best of it. Life is busy, home renovations are happening, children got sick this week, I started a new job this week. Somehow it’s Friday, and I seem to be behind in everything. And there’s a chocolate cake to be made for a certain little girl’s birthday. 🎂 Over time I’ve learned that for me to be the best mother, wife, colleague and just a generally nice human, I need to move at least 3 times a week, ideally 5. I’ve only made it once this week (see last blurb) and I’m feeling stressed and off balance. So at 9:30 (the time I’m normally in bed), I decided to just move through some yoga poses and BIRTHFIT functional progressions and just reconnect with myself and my breathing for about 30 minutes. Now I’m feeling calm, balanced and present. Why am I airing my dirty laundry? Because I want you, friend, to realize we all have our own shit that gets in the way of our health. You can allow that shit to keep you down, or you can find a way around it, a detour if you will 😉. Excuses and roadblocks are always going to be there, the key is finding a way to overcome. It might not be perfect, but a very wise friend once told me done is better than perfect! The moral of the story: movement is magic, you should try it. It’s easy to be discouraged, it’s easy to be upset. And of course I can and did feel that, but again I like to look on the positive note 🎶 ... The worst advice a dancer can hear is well “just don’t dance, don’t move” until you heal. For me, just sitting still is a task alone. ... As a dancer, #movementislife #movementismedicine and we often take it for granted. I know I must take a step back right now to let my wound heal properly. I need to treat my body with care and caution- so if that means no fitness classes, no workouts, no teaching and no dance for the week- I must abide. But if you watched the video, you already knew that. • Ever have pain on the side of your elbow closest to your body?🤔 It’s not just golfers that get it! Medial epicondylitis (aka golfer’s elbow) is a common overuse injury involving the flexors of the forearm that attach at the bony bump on the inside of your elbow (called the medial epicondyle)! No fun. 🙅🏻‍♂️ • Here I’m showing you some awesome and effective ways to deal with this problem! ✅ 1. Soft Tissue treatment of the forearm flexors (can be IASTM, MFR, Hypervolt⚡️, etc.) is a great way to increase range of motion and decrease pain! 2. Stretch! 🤸🏻‍♂️Here are two stretches that will light ya up if you really have this problem. Take the first one really slow, it’s a vulnerable-feeling position to be in. 3. Strengthen them! 💪🏼You could use a dumbbell, kettle bell, resistance band, can of beans🥫, whatever! The exercises shown are: resisted forearm flexion, resisted radial deviation, and resisted ulnar deviation. • Don’t settle for pain! Try these out and let me know what you think. A Bear Crawl? — No I didn’t say a bear claw... which you would be surprised how many of my clients joke about that when I say we are doing bear crawls. — Bear crawls can be an amazing exercise. They can strengthen your arms shoulders and chest. They help with coordination, mobility and stability. — On top of the upper body they also help core stabilization and work the glutes and pretty much the entire lower leg. — In the video I show you how to do a sideways bear crawl. Give this one a shot if you haven’t done these before and let me know how it goes!

💥RFE HIP FLEXOR STRETCH💥- - ✊🏼A fantastic stretch to incorporate into your routine. Everyone has a tight anterior chain (front-side body). This develops through our sitting culture and the fact that most people are very quad dominant.- - 🗣No problemo, this can be counteracted and worked on by targeting and lengthening these muscles.- - ⌚️When is best? 1️⃣I do it either between sets for maximum 35-40 seconds per side, as any longer than that has been shown to possibly decrease strength and power & that’s the last thing we want. 2️⃣Post session or on a recovery day: chill here for 2-3 minutes.- - 1️⃣Put your foot on a bench or couch (any elevated surface). 2️⃣Put your front foot slightly in front of your. 3️⃣⃣Try to keep your knee, hip, shoulder and ear in one line. 4️⃣Hands directly over your head to create that stretch in the front fascial line. 5️⃣SLIGHT lean. 6️⃣Add dynamic movement by carefully twisting over that front leg.- -

You can it do just about anywhere, since it simply requires a flat space and your bodyweight. —— This effective exercise works your upper and lower body at the same time, with a fantastic emphasis on strengthening your core. —— Do 16 reps alternating sides. In my private practice I make house calls which means I’m on the road most of the day. Bringing your own lunch let’s you control exactly what goes into the food you eat! Shoulder problems, specifically shoulder instability? This could help. ✅ Since your shoulder is the most mobile (unstable) joint in the body, shoulder stability is very important. Just ask anyone who’s injured their shoulder and now it feels like it could ‘go’ at any second. Here is an exercise to help. ✅ 1️⃣ Choose a KB that is heavy, not unmanageable, but heavy. The purpose is to tire the shoulder stabilizers so they get activated and stronger 2️⃣ Perform after your workout, 3 sets of 8 per arm. 3️⃣ Go nice, slow, and controlled ✅ Let me know how it goes.
