I’m not very good at portrait photography. Being by nature introverted I always hesitate to intrude on people’s lives, go too close, or strike up a conversation and ask for permission to take a picture. The result is that my photography rarely features people close up. . This doesn’t mean that I am not interested in them, of course. In fact the most fascinating thing in any setting are the people. To me a landscape or setting, no matter how gorgeous it is, is essentially lifeless without people in it. There is beauty in the way humans interact with their environment and I love observing this from a distance. . Last year I accompanied @trumpettales , who works in Delhi, on a visit to the city. I am not fond of the capital and its aggressive culture, but thought I could use the opportunity to be a tourist with him. One of the items on the agenda was the heritage site of the Qutb Minar tower. . Having seen the tower as a child, I wasn’t really interested in the structure itself. Plus it was a hot dry day with temperatures close to 40 degrees and the coastal-dweller in me couldn’t cope. We spent some time sitting in the gardens and wandering around before heading near the minar itself. . Being the star attraction, it was naturally swarming with people. Because there were so many of them and I was lost in the crowd, I could take pictures without calling too much attention to myself. I loved seeing the looks of awe in some children’s faces, and the quiet comfort of some others who were accustomed to coming there and barely paid any notice to its history. I had been that gaping child many years ago, and could see myself reflected in the more nonchalant adults. I’m proud of these set of portraits and the many emotions they capture. . #photography #canon #shotoncanon #dilli #delhi #everydayindia #india #unescoheritage #qutubminar #mughalarchitecture #mughal #livinghistory #portraitphotography #portrait #everydayindia #india_ig #indiaclicks #indiatravelgram #indiatravel
|| Tomb of Salim Chishti || The Tomb of Sheikh Salim Chishti is famed as one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture in India, built during the years 1580 and 1581, along with the imperial complex at Fatehpur Sikri near Zenana Rauza and facing south towards Buland Darwaza, within the quadrangle of the Jama Masjid which measures 350 ft. by 440 ft. It enshrines the burial place of the Sufi saint, Salim Chisti (1478 – 1572), a descendant of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti of Ajmer, and who lived in a cavern on the ridge at Sikri. #tombofsalimchishti #fatehpur #fatehpursikri #fatehpursikrifort #mughal #mughalart #mughalarchitecture #artandculture #architecture #artandcultureofindia #architecturephotography #heritagephotography #heritage #heritageofindia #history #historicalplace #historyofindia #travellove #travelgram #travelthroughoutindia #travelblogger #travelholic #travelphotography #natgeo #natgeotravel #natgeotravelindia #natgeoindia #natgeotravellerindia #northindia #incredibleindia

Over the past few years I have been working on a photography book of my travels throughout India spanning over 20 years. Written and photographed by my good self, here is the first image featured in the book, the majestic Taj Mahal captured on film and the supporting words to accompany it: Ever since seeing early photographs of the Taj Mahal, I felt drawn to this wondrous structure of beauty. I was eager to see this particular ‘wonder of the world’ on my first visit. However owing to unforeseen circumstances I never had the opportunity despite being in Agra. My consolation was to see an impressive scaled-down model endorsed by my rickshaw driver who insisted on taking me there. On my second visit to Agra I would finally see something that would leave a lasting impression on my heart. The morning light was breaking, giving the marble skin a radiant glow. The structure was built in loving memory of a beautiful woman - I can empathise with that motivation. 😊 #india #indiatravel #indiatravels #agra #tajmahal #mughalemperor #whitemarble #architecture #mughalarchitecture #mumtazmahal #mosque #seventhwonder #7thwonderoftheworld #pentaxmx #filmphotography #filmcamera #filmisnotdead #travelphotography #wanderlust #tajmahalpalace #traveller #incredibleindia #storiesofindia #lonelyplanetindia
Jamia Masjid of Thatta was built in 17th century during the reign of Shah Jehan. It is also known as Shah Jehan Mosque and now serves as the central mosque for the city of Thatta in the province of Sindh in Pakistan. The architectural style is heavily influenced by Turkic and Persian styles. Shah Jehan Mosque is well known for its extensive red bricks work and blue glaze tiles. It has 100 domes and was built keeping acoustics in mind. It is also on the tentative UNESCO World Heritage list since 1993. #sindh #pakistan #thatta #unescoworldheritage #architecturephotography #pakistan #documentaryphotography #photography #instadaily #mosque #architecture #mughalarchitecture #dawndotcom #tribune #documentales #filmmaker #documentary #instagram #instakarachi
There’s something about gorgeous looking mosques that brings me so much peace! 💕 The Shah Jehan Mosque in Thatta, Pakistan is a 17th Century mosque that was built on the orders of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan. The stunning blue tile work and the delicate red stone work done within the mosque is greatly influenced by Turkish and Persian inspired architecture. The condition of the mosque is a bit dilapidated now, but it’s definitely worth a visit. Even in the horrible afternoon heat (yes, in February!) / after a 16 hour long day/ messy frizzy hair/ and those hunger pangs (!!!) the mosque was a beautiful sight to behold. 😍 . . . . #roadtrip #thatta #pakistan #mosque #mughalarchitecture #shahjehanmosque #beautifulmosque #travelblogger #femaletraveller #tilework #beautiful #travel #exploringpakistan #dawndotcom

@koshasphotography ・・・ “Jama Masjid was made using yellow sandstones, the architecture of this mosque is a blend of Hindu and Muslim styling. This edifice was built using items rescued from the demolished Hindu and Jain temples. Supported by 260 pillars, the Jama Masjid of Ahmedabad consists of 15 domes. Jama Masjid lies in the heart of the old city.” . #prayertime #rituals #islamic #mosque #mughalarchitecture #architecturephotography #travelgram #heritage #ahmedabadheritage #ahmedabad #ahmedabadourcity #photodocumentary #street_photography #canoneos5dmarkiii #canonphotography

Incredible India. While I shot this ages ago on a little point and shoot camera, it cleaned up pretty nice. The Amer Fort is a generally crowded destination with people always everywhere, but it is a big complex. As we were wandering around I caught a glimpse of this woman walking alone as she just happened to pass through this door frame, which naturally framed up the shot. 📍Amer Fort, Rajasthan, India 🇮🇳 . . . . . #amerfort #amer #amerpalace #unesco #unescoworldheritage #jaipur #rajasthan #india #incredibleindia #northindia #southasia #mughalarchitecture #meenas #rajput #maharajas #maharaja #subcontinent #fort #history #travel #travelphotography #iamatraveler . . @natgeo @natgeoimagecollection @natgeoyourshot @natgeoadventure @natgeotravel @passionpassport @cntraveler @sudar @rskanwar
Detail from one of the doors of the staircases that lead up to the podium of the Bibi-ka-Maqbara in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The wooden doors, with a veneer of copper sheet and brass embellishments, are in a ramshackle state; not really protected and probably being gradually vandalized for souvenirs. This shot shows a stylized representation of a date palm in the garden of paradise. Built in the 1660's CE. Aurangabad, Maharashtra. 07/2017. Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur, India. Towering above the Blue City this massive stone edifice sits perched atop a steep mesa. Intricately carved Jali screens play with transparency, privacy, and light... every single screen features its own individual pattern. It’s hard to adequately capture the impressive nature of this building and its environs...
