// REVIEW 31 - The one thatโ€™s a festive guilty pleasure โ„๏ธ . โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ซ . IN A NUTSHELL ๐Ÿฅœ - โ€˜One Day In Decemberโ€™ is a charming, modern-day love story by debut novelist Josie Silver. . The premise is love at first sight gone horribly wrong: Laurie is convinced sheโ€™s in love after sharing an intense, fleeting moment with a stranger outside her bus window. Fast forward a year, and that mystery boy turns out to be her best friend Sarahโ€™s new boyfriend, Jack... ๐Ÿ’” . THE FULL MONTY ๐Ÿง - I received this proof copy at our #bookstagrammersbrunch earlier this year - thanks @penguinukbooks ๐Ÿ’ซ! . Iโ€™m going to be honest, I probably wouldnโ€™t have picked this up otherwise, as Iโ€™m not normally drawn towards the romance genre. However, Iโ€™m glad I did! . At the beginning, I was put off by what I felt were clichรฉ descriptions of Sarah and Laurie, who we meet fresh out of university. As the story developed, I really warmed to Josie Silverโ€™s characters and I enjoyed that their flaws became as equally apparent as their strengths. . At the beginning of each year, Laurie discusses her New Years resolutions in a diary-style extract. Thereโ€™s definitely echos of Bridget Jones, and I also was reminded of โ€˜Dear Mrs. Birdโ€™, with the volatile dynamics of a close female relationship and Laurieโ€™s role as a magazine agony aunt. . The first person narrative switches between Laurie and Jack throughout this book. I enjoyed the dual perspective but I wasnโ€™t as convinced by Jack as much as I was by Laurie. His inner dialogue wasnโ€™t as robust, but I did like the angle it added to the story. . Yes, there are parts that are romanticised and unbelievable but thereโ€™s also enough realism to the story to keep it grounded. In the end, I am glad I let myself be swept away and Iโ€™m excited to discuss this for #mumstheworddecember ๐Ÿ’™//
I am very excited to start this months @mums_the_word_bookclub pick - One Day in December by @josiesilverauthor โค๏ธ It has been likened to Notting Hill, Love Actually & Bridget Jones- three of my favourite films so I cannot wait to get stuck in. ๐Ÿ“š Can I also show some love towards my beautiful book sleeve made by @artisanal_ane โค๏ธ It is such a gorgeous bookish item that has been handmade to such a high quality. This isnโ€™t an ad (haha) but just thought Iโ€™d show a small independent business some love on the soggy Thursday. ๐Ÿ“š So, is anyone joining in this month with @mums_the_word_bookclub ? Have you read this book already - if so - what do you think? ๐Ÿ“š #mumstheworddecember #mumsthewordbookclub #bookclub #bookchat #onedayindecember #josiesilverauthor #booksleeve #booklove #nothingbeatsbookclub
// BOY is it miserable in London today! Itโ€™s the kind of weather where you just want to sit in bed and read all day... โ˜”๏ธ . The lousy weather has me reaching for โ€˜One Day in Decemberโ€™ by @josiesilverauthor โ„๏ธ I was lucky enough to get my hands on a proof copy of this book back in October from @penguinukbooks , but itโ€™s out now and proving a popular choice for book clubs! . Iโ€™ll be reading this for #mumstheworddecember and Iโ€™ve also spotted itโ€™s the December pick for #reesesbookclubxhellosunshine , so I look forward to some great discussions โœจ . After the wonderful but heavy โ€˜All Rivers Run Freeโ€™, Iโ€™m excited to be swept away by this much anticipated love story! What are you starting this week? //

My November wrap up is very different from my tbr that I posted earlier this month. Depression has not been my friend this month and I hit a major wall when it came to reading. However I am pretty proud of the fact that I did manage to read this much. ๐Ÿ˜Š . Not pictured: A Raven's Touch by Linda Bloodworth (ebook) Daughters of the Lake by Wendy Webb (ebook) The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo (audiobook) . . . . #bookstagram #horror #stephenking #booksarelife #triptobooyamoon #booknerd #biblophile #bookaddict #read #instabook #denight #okiereads #crownsofcroswald #thewildother #cloverstroud #kingbuddyreads #mumsthewordbookclub #bookwormproblems #okiebookstagram
The Wild Other by Clover Stroud . "You Cannot Wait To Be Saved. You Have To Be The Knight." . This was a really moving memoir. I like how brutally honest Clover Stroud was when writing her story. Even the uncomfortable parts, it was simply brave of her to write about. I liked her connection to horses, how she came to terms about her mother, and how she seemed to find herself. I did get lost at times due to the switching of timelines but the whole book seemed to flow nicely. I look forward to reading more from Clover Stroud. โญโญโญโญ/5 . . . . #bookstagram #booksarelife #booknerd #biblophile #read #bookaddict #cloverstroud #instabook #okiebookstagram #bookreviews #hodderbooks #mumsthewordbookclub #memoir #thewildother #bookwormproblems #okiereads #bookclub #nonfiction #autobiography #mumsthewordnovember

๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ.5 The Wild Other by Clover Stroud "No one knows why the White Horse is there above the hill in Uffington. It's a mystery that belongs to ancient man, and we can speculate. It we are only ever guessing." Horse-mad Clover Stroud enjoyed a childhood blessed with ponies and the great outdoors in Wiltshire. In 1991, when Clover was sixteen, this came to an abrupt end when her mother Char was thrown from her horse while out riding and suffered a catastrophic blow to the head. Defying the medical prognosis, Char regained consciousness, but could never be the mother Clover needed. After her mother's accident, Clover sought comfort in friends, lovers and drugs and she embarked on a journey to regain the sense of home that had been so cruelly disrupted. Travelling through gypsy camps in Ireland, to rodeos in Texas and then to Russiaโ€™s Caucasus, Clover eventually found her way home to the Wiltshire countryside. The Wild Otherย is an emotional account of love, loss and family, written with honesty. During traumatic times, horses and the landscape of her home county were Clover's anchor. This memoir is a reminder to live life to the fullest. Powerful but difficult reading. #thewildother #cloverstroud #hodderbooks #memoir #bookstagram #bookreview #mumsthewordbookclub #mumsthewordnovember #bookstamums #metimemovement #whatheatherloves
Itโ€™s a two post kind of day today. Firstly, and long awaited I wanted to share the @mums_the_word_bookclub November pick for this month. Chosen by the immensely talented @sketchymuma as our guest selector (sounds a little video game esque doesnโ€™t it!) she chose โ€˜The Wild Otherโ€™ By @clover.stroud ๐Ÿ“š โ€˜The Wild Otherโ€™ by @clover.stroud is described by @sketchymuma as - โ€™Having so many layers to it; it tapped into a wild side of myself too!โ€™ ๐Ÿ“š Clover Stroud grew up in rural Wiltshire surrounded by animals and family. When she was just sixteen her adored mother had a horrific riding accident which left her permanently brain-damaged, and suddenly Clover was left to fend for herself. She embarked on an extraordinary journey to heal her broken heart, courting men and danger through two marriages and five children. ๐Ÿ“š The Wild Other is a grippingly honest account of love, sex and travelling to the darkest edges of human experience and back again. Powerful and deeply emotional, this is the story of an extraordinary life lived at its fullest. ๐Ÿ“š So, who is joining us? ๐Ÿ“š #thewildother #cloverstroud #mumsthewordbookclub #mumsthewordnovember #sketchymuma #bookclub #bookclubchat #bookchoice #bookstagram #bookish
Current read on the Kindle! ๐Ÿ˜ I really don't read a lot of Non fiction and this is probably my first ever Memoir so I'm super excited for two reasons. 1. It's @mums_the_word_bookclub November pick and the love I have for book club and every book picked so far is real! ๐Ÿ’“ 2. I hear that this book has a lot of equine related details. My second biggest passion is horses. I've worked with them most my adult life and I've been riding since I was walking pretty much so this book already fills me with happiness! ๐Ÿ˜ #mumsthewordbookclub #bookstagram #cloverstroud #bookclubpick #mumsthewordnovember #kindlereads #kindle #booksofinstagram #bookworm #alwaysreading #bibliophile #bibliotaph #memoir #nonfiction #instareads #instabook #readersofinstagram #reading #bookish #booknerd #booksbooksbooks #girlswhoread

This is a first - I am actually posting a book review before I have even announced that I am reading a book! So, two days ago I started the @mums_the_word_bookclub October pick - โ€˜You Me Everythingโ€™ by author @catherineisaacauthor and I have absolutely flown through it. ๐Ÿ“š The book focuses on Jess - a single Mum who finds herself in France during the summer holidays with her son visiting his Dad, trying to build a relationship between the two of them! This is set against the back drop of Jess dealing with her Mums Huntingtonโ€™s disease diagnosis. ๐Ÿ“š The book, for the majority of the story, is light and fluffy- ultimately a good old fashioned โ€˜chick litโ€™ easy read. However, with the sensitively handled inclusion of the effects of Huntingtonโ€™s disease on a whole family, personally makes the book so much more than that. Without it, I probably wouldnโ€™t have enjoyed the story as much which sounds strange due to the subject matter. But this enabled me to connect with the characters, it added more weight to the story and at times, left tears in my eyes (yes I cried in public whilst reading it over a coffee in town!) ๐Ÿ“š So, all in all, a quick ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ read which did pull on my heart strings due to itโ€™s beautiful message - โ€˜Sometimes it takes darkness to see how we shine!โ€™ ๐Ÿ“š #mumsthewordoctober #mumsthewordbookclub #catherineissacauthor #youmeeverything #book #bookreview #summerread #bookcommunity #bookclub #bookclubrules #bookappreciation
You Me Everything is the October pick for the @mums_the_word_bookclub and I can not wait for the discussion. There is a lot going on in this one without it being too heavy! A seemingly perfect French holiday. Your best friends, their families, a gorgeously renovated French estate turned hotel. Except the owner of the hotel is your ex-boyfriend who you dumped soon after he failed to turn up during the birth of his only son. After ten years of raising him as a single mother, Jess finally decides to try and make Adam see that their son William is more than pictures sent through email and occasional visits. You Me Everything was a lovely book about French countryside holiday trips, learning to let go and forgive and reconnecting. It had a few emotional spots, a few funny parts, and complicated characters. A lot going on but nothing too forced in your face and it was a fun read despite some tears! . #YouMeEverything #mumsthewordoctober #mumsthewordbookclub #instagrambookclub #bookstagram #bookphoto #bookclubpick #bookworm #bookclub #morningreading #bookreview #Goodreads
Book review! You Me Everything. โญโญโญโญโญ/5 I adored this book! Honestly it has everything that makes a beautiful book to me. Romance, friendship, great characters and a heartwarming story. In this book we follow the main character Jess to the Dordonne in France where she spends the summer with her ex Adam her 10 year old son's father after it's one of her Mothers, who has a terminal illness. Last wishes for her grandson to have more of a relationship with his Father. The characters are so well developed in this book I actually felt like I knew Jess. I cried and laughed with her, my heart broke and I cheered her on. She's one of those characters that you really want her to do well. I love the way she portrays motherhood and as a Mum found her super relatable. The way @catherineisaacauthor writes is simply stunning and descriptive and vivid and all the Adjectives I can use for pretty bloody fabulous! ๐Ÿ˜Š This without a shadow of a doubt my favourite book pick for @mums_the_word_bookclub I've already recommended it to every one I know. #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookreview #instareads #instabook #bibliophile #mumsthewordbookclub #octoberread #girlswhoread #bookworm #readingislife #fivestarread #fiction

๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ You Me Everything by Catherine Isaac "Everyone's future is uncertain. Most of us don't think about the fact that we could be run over by a bus tomorrow. We plod through life taking everything for granted." Jess and ten year old son William spend the summer in the Dordogne at the renovated chรขteau Jess's ex-boyfriend William's father Adam owns. Driven by her mother, who has Huntington's Disease, she hopes absent father Adam and William can forge a bond so they can play a bigger part in one another's lives. What follows is a sun-drenched, poignant tale of adventures, of friends of love and loss as new futures are forged in the French countryside. This was an enjoyable and evocative read, heart-warming but so sad in parts, a beautifully written family drama. Whilst I have no direct experience of Huntington's Disease, Isaac's writing dealt with it with dignity, meaning I have an understanding of how it can affect sufferers. #youmeeverything #catherineisaac #simonandschuster #mumsthewordoctober #mumsthewordbookclub #bookclub #bookstagram #bookstamums #metimemovement #whatheatherloves

You, Me, Everything is October's Mum's The Word Book Club book. This critically acclaimed love story is Liverpudlian Catherine Isaac's first book under her own name. She has written nine previous books under the pseudonym Jane Costello. The blurb on the back says: "Jess and her ten-year-old son William set off to spend the summer at Chรขteau Roussignol, deep in the undulating hills and lush vineyards of the Dordogne. There, her ex-boyfriend Adam, runs an exquisite hotel in a restored castle and has had little to do with his son's upbringing. But Jess is in France for a more urgent reason than a holiday: she's fulfilling the wishes of her mother who, in the late stage of a neurodegenerative disease, is determined that William needs his father in his life. Over one heady, sun-drenched summer, bridges are built and secrets are uncovered, but there is one truth that nobody - especially William - must discover." #youmeeverything #catherineisaac #simonandschuster #mumsthewordoctober #mumsthewordbookclub #bookclub #bookstagram #bookstamums

Iโ€™m on the move again... this time, moving to Luxembourg for 6 months for an internship! Book #59 of 2018 was Stay With Me by Ayobami Adebayo. โ˜† SYNOPSIS: โ˜† 'Yejide is hoping for a miracle, for a child. It is all her husband wants, all her mother-in-law wants, and she has tried everything - arduous pilgrimages, medical consultations, dances with prophets, appeals to God. But when her in-laws insist upon a new wife, it is too much for Yejide to bear. It will lead to jealousy, betrayal and despair. โ˜† Unravelling against the social and political turbulence of 80s Nigeria, Stay With Me sings with the voices, colours, joys and fears of its surroundings. Ayobami Adebayo weaves a devastating story of the fragility of married love, the undoing of family, the wretchedness of grief, and the all-consuming bonds of motherhood. It is a tale about our desperate attempts to save ourselves and those we love from heartbreak'. โ˜† I devoured this book in less than 24 hours. A beautiful story that deals with so many different emotions. โ˜† Yejide and Akin are a prosperous couple living a good life in Nigeria. They are deeply in love and desperate to complete their family with a child, however, no matter how hard they try, they are unable to concieve. The story is told from the points of view of both Yejide and Akin and reveals the pressures that are placed on their relationship by both family and society as they take more and more desperate measures in their attempts to satisfy their own need, and society's demands, for a child. โ˜† There are several plot twists throughout the story, just when you think you know where the story is going Adebayo throws another curve ball. Yejide and Akin are gradually torn apart by the events in their lives and you will share their pain! โ˜† I've given this 5๐ŸŒŸon Goodreads as there are no options for .5๐ŸŒŸ. Although this was an excellent read, it isn't a contender for my book of the year, so 4.5/5๐ŸŒŸ โ˜† โ˜† โ˜† โ˜† โ˜† โ˜† โ˜† โ˜† โ˜† โ˜† โ˜† โ˜† โ˜† โ˜† โ˜† #staywithme #ayobamiabedayo #canongatebooks #booknerd #booksmakemehappy #booksofig #booksofinstagram #bookstagram #books #booklover #bookworm #bibliophile #ilovebooks #ilovereading #bookaholic #bookish #bookishmum #read #reading #reader #mumsthewordseptember #mumsthewordbookclub

This story is about Yejide and Akin and their quest to have a family, it is set in Nigeria in the 198o's amongst all the political turmoil of that time. It's a heart wrenching tale of a mothers love for her child and the desperation of heartbreak. It's a sad and touching read. I wouldn't have seen this book had it not been the choice for this months @mums_the_word_bookclub #books #bookstagram #bookreview #clairet144books #mumsthewordseptember #mumsthewordbookclub #bookclub
๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ Stay With Me by Ayแปฬ€bรกmi Adรฉbรกyแปฬ€. "If the burden is too much and stays too long, even love bends, cracks, comes close to breaking and sometimes does break. But when it's in a thousand pieces around your feet, that doesn't mean it's no longer love.". Set in 1980s Nigeria, the focus of the book is Yejide and Akin's marriage, told from both of their perspectives. It tells of how they want children, how their families (especially Moomie, Akin's mother) relentlessly pressurise them to have children and how it erodes their love. I took a while to get into the story, which is set against the backdrop of the social and political turbulence of coups and military rule, but I once I did I read it in a couple of days, truly invested in Yejide particularly. I loved the folk and moral tales that were interwoven, with sympathy and humour that added lightness. My heart bled for Yejide's tragedies because she endured so much and because I wanted so much for her that her world could not give. Her strength was marked against the weakness of Akin and his secrets. Yejide was dealt cruel blows and made crushing decisions, burdened by Nigeria's view of women as only mothers and wives. I struggled with the ending, without spoiling it for anyone who hasn't read it, how Yejide could have made the decision she did. Heartbreaking. This is a beautifully written and powerful debut novel. It made me hug my husband and my children a little closer. #staywithme #Ayแป ฬ€bรกmiAdรฉbรกyแปฬ€ #mumsthewordseptember #mumsthewordbookclub #bookclub #librarybook #bookstagram #whatheatherloves

Stay with me by Ayobami Adebayo is the September bookclub read for @mums_the_word_bookclub. I decided to listen to this in audiobook form because I have so many physical books on my TBR but I really wanted to be involved in the book club and I like to listen to audiobooks while commuting to and from work and when I work out. Stay with me took place in Nigeria between the 1970s till present day flipping back and forth through time. The narration is a bit different because it flips back from English to their native tongue. It was fascinating how much emphasis the culture puts on having children and if you donโ€™t have children you are kind of made to feel less than. The pressure for the main characters, Akin and Yejide, to have a child was so important that Yejide tried everything from going to the dr, potions, herbs and even religious men and after 4 years of trying nothing was happening. Akinโ€™s mother ends up pushing him into getting a second wife so that Akin would have a child with her. This appalled me because they thought it was the wives fault and no way it could be the mans. The things that this couple had to go threw was just sad and I felt so much empathy toward Yejide. I rated this 4 stars because although it was a great Story, some parts seemed unnecessary. Also, the switching back and forth through time got confusing to me. #mumsthewordbookclub #bookclubread #audiobook #adultfiction #4starread #polygamy #nigeria #staywithme #ayobamiadebayo #idratherbereading #booknerd #bookstagrambookclub #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #reviewpost #bookreviews #book29of2018 #goodreadsreadingchallenge2018
Morning! I have to admit this book wasnโ€™t even on my radar until @mums_the_word_bookclub chose it to launch their new monthly bookclub. I really wanted to join in and was so happy when I managed to get a copy from my local library, with pretty yellow pages too! Iโ€™m glad I read it, as itโ€™s taking me out of my reading comfort zone, but I didnโ€™t love it. It was a 2.5 stars for me up until part 4 and that pushed it up to 3. Just when you think you have this book figured out, something else happens. Itโ€™s always interesting to read about different cultures. This book is set in 1980โ€™s Nigeria, where it was acceptable and even encouraged that men had multiple wives. And Iโ€™m always happy to read different female authors, this being her debut. An interesting read, but not one I would revisit. โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagramuk #books #bookcover #bookish #booksofinstagram #reading #goodreads #bookworm #booklover #bibliophile #librarylove #bookphotography #bookcommunity #booksinthewild #bookoutside #mumsthewordseptember #mumsthewordbookclub
Where do I start with this book? Firstly, I read it cover to cover in 24 hours. I have NEVER done this before. Secondly, I have only posted about it now as I felt I needed time to take it all in. And finally, if you were unsure about whether to take part with us for our @mums_the_word_bookclub September discussion then I urge you read this book and join us at the end of the month. ๐Ÿ’• @ayobamidebayo has written a beautiful & heart achingly emotional novel which is worthy of all the awards it has been bestowed. A full review will follow at the end of the month but until then all I can say is - this is a must read! #staywithme #ayobamiadebayo #aworkofart #fantasticread #mumsthewordbookclub #mumsthewordseptember #fiction #mustread
I am so excited to start this months @mums_the_word_bookclub September pick - โ€˜Stay with Meโ€™ by @ayobamidebayo I wonโ€™t lie, Iโ€™m a little nervous as it is our first book choice so the pressure is on! โ˜€๏ธ I will hold my hands up and say it isnโ€™t the sort of book I would normally go for. But hey, isnโ€™t that the beauty of a book club - to push yourself to read away from your norm!? Thatโ€™s another reason why I love working with @busymamabookclub on this venture. Since we started chatting she has opened me up to so many new authors and titles I wouldnโ€™t have normally chosen. My husband thinks she is a bad influence - but I think she is ok with that! ๐Ÿคฃ โ˜€๏ธ So, who is joining us this month to read our first book club pick? Have you already read it? Good morning tribe! So pleased to be finishing my second #busymamabookclub & #mumsthewordbookclub for September. The book that was chosen is โ€˜Stay With Meโ€™ by Ayรฒbรกmi Adรฉbรกyรฒ. On goodreads this is described as an electrifying novel and I can most certainly attest that this has been quite an emotional read, filled with family drama and the lengths one would go to, to keep a family together. Thank you to @busymamabookclub & @book_club_mumma for choosing this book for us. They have truly chosen a good one this month. And as you can see, I love the cover of this book so much I couldnโ€™t stop taking photos of it. โœจ โœจ โœจ QOTD: Do you take part in real life book clubs or online book clubs? It's a two post kinda day again, I finished another book WHOOP! ๐ŸŽ‰ This one was the @mums_the_word_bookclub pick for September so I won't say too much and spoil it for others. Stay With Me by Ayobami Adebayo was not a usual read for me. Set in Nigeria during the 80's onwards it follows Yejide and Akin through their marriage and struggles to produce a baby and heir. I found this really easy to read despite the subject involved and the sometimes political aspects depicted. I liked it and am glad of the book club for pushing me out of my comfort zone. ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ from me #bookreview #bookreccomendation #bookclubreads #mumsthewordbookclub #bookaddict #bookstagram #staywithme

#day4 of my book buying ban. Tuesday morning. Iโ€™m feeling okay. Iโ€™m good. Taking it one day at a time. Haha, I know I speak like an addict but you know buying books can be quiet a sweet addiction. Then again, if books are my drugs, itโ€™s the least harmless drug out there. My plan is working, especially since I visited my local library - which Iโ€™ve not done in a year - a whole year! - and Iโ€™ve borrowed my #mumsthewordbookclub book choice for September, along with this little poetry book. Yโ€™all know how much I love poetry, and especially poems by Carol Ann Duffy. Sheโ€™s like one of my top poets. A book about love and passion, is awaking scandalous thoughts in me. Love her poetry, have I already said that? And I love the fact that Iโ€™ve borrowed this one. Yay for library picks!!! . . . QOTD: When was your last visit to your local library?
