Heres a little collage I made for Pro Mermaids. Our equipment is expensive and we take pride in our work. Things I couldn’t show in the collage is all my effort, time, & work I put into to building myself as a professional and attaining the highest level of professionalism I possibly could. So when people say “oh I want to buy a tail to sit in the pool for my friends party!” Or “oh I can just buy the cheap tail and do that!” just know that they are damaging our industry and taking what could be a gig for us. We put many hours into our performances and shows, our equipment, our practice, our look! Yeah sometimes we “get paid to sit and look pretty” but beauty is pain and sitting in uncomfortable positions for hours with loads of make up, tight tops and crowns, cramps, and more is not so glamorous. We MAKE it look easy but please don’t be confused and think what we do it easy. Sometimes we get lucky and book easy gigs. Just because we do these easy gigs does not mean we don’t do more difficult ones. There is no official training, licensing, of rules to become a pro mermaid, however listen to what other pros have said. We give the advice so you may learn from OUR mistakes! Remember to take it and remember to never undercut professionals by working for cheap/free; exposure can only get you so far. Its like buying pro camera equipment and calling yourself a professional photographer, or buying a bunch of dance outfits and saying you’re a professional dancer.
