to introducing me to arugula salads. I spent my whole life hating it until I learned a simple way of serving it. Simply toss with lemon juice, Maldon salt, pepper and olive oil. I served it over beet ravioli and garnished with sweet figs, pecans and shaved Parmesan! It turned out so good!

chickpea pasta and then made the sauce using about 1/3 cup spicy tomato sauce, a splash of coconut milk, and a dash of garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Topped it all off with crushed red pepper for extra heat! (Vegan + gluten-free)
Gumbo is eaten throughout the fall season and into winter at tailgates and gatherings in Louisiana. “Day after Thanksgiving Gumbo” is very much a thing in our household. My dad would make an asian inspired roasted turkey with all the fixin’s and the next day my aunt would turn the leftovers and scraps into gumbo. This is an homage to our blended Louisiana roots and asian culture, packed with umami and memories.⠀
To me, gumbo signifies the 4 F’s: fall, football, family and friends. What are some of your fall traditions? ⠀

Soy Sauce Chicken with Momofuku Ginger Scallion Sauce.
A Chinatown classic, I absolutely love soy sauce chicken and this was my first attempt at making it at home. Inspired by a couple of my Instagram friends @starfishfingers
home cooking, I looked up about 20 different recipes and watched quite a few YouTube videos to make this myself. The final result was this juicy, moist and flavour packed simple chicken with sweet, salty, gingery and onion notes, woven together like a flavour tapestry with star anise, cinnamon, and garlic.
At this point in my 20 plus years of serious home cooking I've made (and I took the calculator app out to count) over one thousand roast chickens. It was about clucking time I tried something else with my weekly bird.
Don't get me wrong, I cook and have cooked hundreds, if not thousands of different chicken dishes. If someone analyzed my DNA, they may be confused when they find chicken DNA fused into my Aryan ancestry. What really surprised me is that I've never tried making any of the yummy Chinatown classics because I've always lived or worked near authentic Chinese restaurants (that the Chinese actually dine at, not the Canadian-Chinese places) near me. So, there was no motivation to make something I could easily buy.
Normally, this is eaten with steamed rice but I served this with ginger scallion ramen noodles, as I didn't have the proper Chinese rice. Absolutely delicious in combination with this chicken. My apologies to anyone offended by my mix and match offering.
The ramen was fresh made and bought from my Chinese grocery store, a place I'm never bored of, my personal wonderland.
