A brand new trailer for the upcoming film Vox Lux has dropped and it features a pretty transformative performance from Natalie Portman.
Written and directed by Brady Corbet, the film is told in two halves. The first half takes place in 1999 and stars Tomorrowland’s Raffey Cassidy as Celeste, a teenager who survives a violent school shooting, only to write an original song about the tragedy that turns her into a superstar. The second portion finds Portman playing the adult Celeste, who’s now a worldwide star a la Lady Gaga, but still struggling with her own personal demons as she mounts a comeback tour.
The film premiered at @tiff_net
earlier this year to largely positive reviews, with most praising Portman’s performance. It certainly looks pretty interesting but what’s most intriguing is it’s apparent similarities to A Star Is Born.
What it’s pretty superficial at this stage judging by a single trailer but it’s hard to escape the similarities and Portman’s uncanny Gaga look. I’ve got a feeling this will be far less of a crowd pleaser but we shall see.
The film also stars Jude Law and will feature original songs from Sia.
