I met Maddie 8 (!) years ago studying abroad for a semester and when I went home I didn’t think I’d see her again. Since then, we’ve been all over the Southwestern US, seen each other’s homes in LA and MI and missed an international flight and been stranded in South America together. Happiest of Birthdays to my number one adventure buddy, big or small 🎉

Another Acadia sunrise. The views of MDI are quite abundant and I jump over the opportunity to shoot during the golden hour. I’ve had lots of opportunity’s to do so within the last couple of weeks paddling in the area. 📍Eastern Mark island, Maine Cost Heritage Trust.
with these ladies was SO MUCH FUN!!!!!! And beautiful!! #nationalparks #nps @carolynjanenu
Where else can you camp with your family 10 years earlier and return and it’s just the same!?
Where else can you run around naked on rocks in nature!?
National parks are amazing!!!
Our friends over at @feralmountainco
opened their Idaho Springs location and it is a marvel! If you haven’t already visited Feral, you can check them out on the way to all your favorite outdoor activities. They also have a location on Tennyson street in Denver! Nice work, guys.
Snag one of our prints while you’re at it! They always have a supply of the 14er, National Parks, and Seven Summits!
missing the mountains—where i feel so at home 🌲🏔 #craterlake
This badass adventurer will officially be family in less than two weeks 😬.
My parents say it’s the hubris of youth to believe that life is binary (obviously, they also like to use words I have to Google). But I think that the greatest thing about youth is that you get to be as hubris-y as you want. You get to say things like “either you’re a defender or you’re a destroyer.” There is no room for gray on this issue. We are called to be guardians of sacred places, and now, more than ever, we have to plant our feet, stand our ground and defend. Sometimes life only gives you one chance. I think this is ours. This is our one chance to defend our beautiful #nationalparks
that give so much to so many of us. There are a multitude of reasons why people choose to pick up a paddle — or throw on a pack — and head into the wilderness. Sometimes we don’t even know beforehand exactly why we do. But universally, we come out changed, and changed for the better.
So, that’s my wish: to permanently protect the #BoundaryWaters

Cryptogamic Soils (Moab, Utah) | This beautiful and unique landscape may look hardened and desolate, but what life does cling here is so very important to the preservation of the ecological systems at play here. I can’t stress the importance of staying on the designated trails! We need to preserve the fragile cryptogamic soils to keep this place as magical and strange as it is now. Cryptogamic soils are a complex of lichens, algae, moss and fungus that occurs as a black coating on the ground surface and as small mounds where it is well developed. It plays an extremely important role in the desert ecology. It binds the soil together and inhibits wind erosion and erosion by sheet wash. It absorbs moisture and converts atmospheric nitrogen into a form that can be used by higher plants. However this cryptogamic soil is so fragile that light grazing or even a single footstep can destroy tens of years of growth. One of the reasons why it is so well developed in this region is due to the lack of past grazing. Learning the balance between enjoying national parks and keeping them healthy is easy, listen to the rangers who make this their life’s work! :) .

Restoring the frame of the camper has been a chore. Here is a quick peek at the newly restored rear bumper. I scraped, sanded, treated, scrubbed, sprayed, and then finally I painted the rear bumper with this hammered metal paint. What an improvement!!

The only time I’m okay with gaining 30 pounds over the weekend is when it involves going on a backpacking adventure. 😂
