Weekends = more time to give the plant family a little TLC 🌿☀️ Happy Saturday, friends!
On July 14th, I attended the Protect the Inlet Flotilla at Whey-ah-Wichen | Cates Park as part of a peaceful Kinder Morgan protest. I was not expecting to help paddle one of the three traditional Coast Salish canoes and be present for the water ceremony in front of the facility’s water fence. It was an honour and an unforgettable experience. —-———
There were over 100 boats and more on the beach in solidarity with the Indigenous Coast Salish communities to protect the waters and those that live near it or in it.

This week’s #FaunaFriday
is the Canada Lynx, Lynx canadensis! This feline is double the size of a house cat and has large furry paws to travel on top of the snow like snowshoes. Although this feline may look similar to the bobcat, the lynx has a greyer coat, larger paws and longer ear tuffs.
The Canada Lynx is a very secretive cat - you'd be lucky if you spotted one in your lifetime! The snowshoe hare is the lynx’s almost exclusive food source. This single-prey dependence causes the lynx population to rise and fall in tandem with the snowshoe hare population. Besides the rise and fall of snowshoe hare populations, lynx populations can also decline due to habitat loss.
