Into every life, a little bird poop must fall.
The Radiated Tortoise (Geochelone radiata) is one of the most strikingly patterned tortoises in the world, with its yellow limbs and gorgeous shell. An endangered species, it is a vegetarian, feasting on all manner of plant life. In captivity, they favor weeds like dandelions, as well as opuntia cactus.
I'm fortunate enough to be licensed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service to help in the propagation of this species, but this isn't one of mine. This is an adult at the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC.
You ever find something so magical it kinda blows you away? That was this place. Originally found it without my camera in hand on a day off from shooting to spend time with friends, decided on the spot I’d be back to photograph it, and a few days later there I was. This place is truly magical, hope it stays that way for a long time.
