Do you want to create more meaningful actions every day? It’s easy to get caught up in our own busy schedules without a mindful awareness of any particular situation. So how can we connect, appreciate, and truly experience life with those around us? For #MindfulMonday , we’re sharing some tips from Mindful magazine on how we can generate meaningful actions every day of the week. PATH PLAN: STEP 1 – Think about someone else’s pain and how you may be able to help. When we go through difficult times, it can feel like everyone else just carries on with their day while your world has been flipped. However, when we’re having good days ourselves, we can be oblivious to someone else that may be struggling. How can you help that someone today? STEP 2 – Pause before you reply in a conversation. It is important to be a mindful listener. This means truly listening to what the other person is saying instead of thinking of how you will reply. STEP 3 – Stop and tune in to the environment around you. On your lunch break, or when you’re out for your evening walk, take a second to pause and listen. What do you hear? What do you feel? What do you see? Practice being fully present in the moment. STEP 4 – Check in with someone you may not have talked to in a while. All relationships we want to keep need tending. Sometimes, it is good to also look outside of your immediate social circle. Try making a list of people you’d like to stay in touch with. Then, each week, choose one person and connect with them – send them an e-mail, give them a call, or visit them in person. Day one is coming to a close. BUSY DAY! 😴 Worked, went to the chiropractor (dislocated my rib again - OUCH! 😭), saw my naturopath and then played with my cricut. Veggie shepherd's pie! This dish was so warming and delicious. Prime comfort food, but it uses more than one pot which is a big deal for me 😉 Here's the recipe; (if you want to do it with meat just swap lentils for grass fed beef mince - brown it with the onions - and use beef stock) - brown some a chopped onion and a chopped clove of garlic in olive oil with a pinch of salt and pepper. - chop a swede, a carrot, 2 cups of portobello mushrooms, 3-4 sticks of celery and a leek into small cubes and add them to the pot and stir. - pour over just enough veggie stock to cover 3-4 of the veggies and simmer for 15 minutes. Add a cup of frozen peas and a tin of rinsed organic brown lentils. - add a tablespoon of wostershire sauce, a tablespoon of dried thyme leaves, 1/2 a cup of red wine and simmer for 30 mins, stirring occasionally. While this is simmering, chop up and steam a medium sweet potato to mash for the top of the pie. Mash with butter and milk or mylk of your choice until light and fluffy. - preheat the oven to 180 degrees c. Once the veggies in the sauce are soft, thicken the sauce by gradually sifting in 1/2 cup of a flour of your choice while stirring. - then transfer into a ceramic Croc pot, put the mashed sweet potato on top and roast until the potato looks golden brown (approx 15 mins). Guys I just had the biggest multitasking fail... I tired to meditate while breastfeeding 🙅 • There was a moment when I was focusing on my breath and thinking "just stay in the moment Katie" Then the moment hit me in the face with a stuffed rabbit. 🐰😂 • At the end of the @headspace meditation I was "following" it asks you to take a minute to see how you are feeling after the meditation. And you know what? • I was actually feeling pretty good 😊- like much better than I was before my highly interrupted half-meditation. • Sometimes we can convince ourselves that if we can do something 💯than it's not worth doing at all. But it's that kind of self-talk bullshit that keeps us from being great. We are so caught up in doing something perfectly that we forget it's ok to do it at all. • I almost didn't find time today, but today I meditated. And that counts. Even if I got hit in the face by a stuffed rabbit 🐰

Protestors in Israel marched into a factory farm and shut off the grinder. They refused to leave because they knew the grinder would be turned on once they did. When the cops showed, a woman named Tal challenged the officer saying “as a human being, turn the grinder back on. Look at them and tell me you can do it to them”. There is an energy throughout any forest. An old and wise feeling that slows you down and gives perspective. We are so small, in a grand sense. The awful things in life are there to help us grow, and annoying things that feel despairing like a broken shoe or a bad day at work won’t matter in 6 months time. What will matter is the vital part you play in the web of connections that makes up the universe. Your bad experiences won’t last, but the way you choose to move through the world and how you handle those experiences will shape your reality, and the reality of the global community. Know that you are innately supported and that bad feelings don’t have to last. Open yourself to joy and excitement and decide to live your life with your highest self as your guiding light. It isn’t easy, but that’s the part of the journey.
Some things I've been doing lately: ❤️Some freestyle movement - I just chuck on some of my favourite tunes dance it out, stretch it out. I'm noticing more creativity play in my life not only do I get more of things done I actually seem to flow through challenges (like creating my podcast) alot easier. ❤️ Been experimenting with 'waste not want not' pulp from my juices @naturopress - adding the pulp to my oat balls recipe (on my blog) and also to my soaked oats! It adds flavour and a tonnes more fibre! I'm also excited to try my luck with making a veggie Pattie and some stock from the left overs! ❤️ In regards to my podcast, instead of being overwhelmed by all the things I've just been scheduling in a few hours each week to get things done and no matter how much resistance I have, I resist the urge to procrastinate and sit down at the allocated time and just aim to get ANYTHING done! I am so excited To see it all unfold and start to really create shape - which also helps me maintain momentum in the process as well. ❓❓⁉️What things are you doing at the moment that is making you feel tip top? Or what could you change, swap or bring into your life that would start making you feel at your best? I truly believe that happiness and health come hand in hand. But the smallest things can make a difference - some free flow movement, extra fibre in your breakfast or taking baby steps towards a new creative project. You got this I know you do! When dinner plan A doesn't work, the instant pot is there with dinner plan B. We got home later than expected from my nieces first birthday party yesterday, and the chicken was frozen solid. So instant pot dinner to the rescue. We decided to leave the chicken for another night and went with a coconut curry. First, I sautéed a small onion and a clove of garlic. Next, I added in a jar of tomatoes. For spices I added 1 Tbsp turmeric, 1 tsp cumin and 1 tsp salt. Then I added a few dashes of chilli powder, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and pepper. Finally, I added 2 bay leaves. I would have added cinnamon but my son is allergic. To sweeten I added 1 Tbsp of maple syrup and 1 can of coconut milk. To give the curry some kick I added a 1/4 cup of white wine vinegar. I tasted the curry and adjusted a bit before adding in 4 chopped potatoes and a 1/2 of a half of a head of chopped cauliflower. I turned on the instant pot for 4 minutes on high. When it was finished I let it naturally release for 5 minutes. Once on keep warm I added a can of chickpeas and let them warm through. We served over brown rice and garnished with cilantro. It was delicious and from start to finish it took 1 hour. Hormones 101: Estrogen detox through your gut! This is post 14 of a big series so go back to “what is a hormone?” to see the beginning. 🤓 . Your estrogen goes through phase 1, then gets water soluble in phase 2 then gets transported in phase 3 into your bile duct for your intestines to “dump” it out. 😂 . In the bile, estrogens, other hormones and toxins are packaged up like a gift with a bow 🎁 to be safely removed by your intestines and out in your poop. This is called conjugation. 💩 . Once in the intestines, an enzyme known as Beta-glucuronidase can activate and unpackage (untie the bow and open the lid) releasing hormones and toxins so that they get reabsorbed. 😱 . Before you think it’s all bad, beta-glucuronidase does help with the reabsorption of certain nutrients and beneficial molecules. So, it’s a balance. ⚖️ . Certain gut bacteria make more beta-glucuronidase and if they are out of balance or “over grown” due to poor dietary choices, antibiotics and other toxin/chemical exposures then you’ll have more beta-glucuronidase. 👎 . What does this cause? Well, it will cause your estrogen to break free, run wild and get absorbed back into your body potentially causing estrogen dominance. 😾 . What can you do? Clean up your gut! Eat fiber and fermented foods and veggies! Avoid bad fats and fried foods. Really think if you need more antibiotics. Take quality pre and probiotics. Get a stool test to see what’s growing down there🐛 and your beta-glucuronidase levels. Then consider the supplement Calcium-d-Glucarate to keep beta-glucuronidase in check. 👍 .
