Another definition of a hero is someone who is concerned about other people's well-being, and will go out of his or her way to help them -- even if there is no chance of a reward. That person who helps others simply because it should or must be done, and because it is the right thing to do, is indeed without a doubt, a real superhero.” -Stan Lee
My geeky nerd heart hurts. Thank you sir for your vision, talent, humor, great cameos, and for everything you gave this universe with the one you helped create. Rest in light, love, and peace.
Excelsior! #stanlee #marvel #excelsior #restinpeace #comicbook #geek #nerd

Here is a different observation on the outcrop from one of the samples I have been studying. This rock has been described as soapstone--a rock valued for its relative softness and carvability. Soapstones possess these qualities from the abundance of minerals such as serpentine and talc in them. Ironically, although there was a fair abundance of talc in my rock, I found no serpentine. So, why was the rock identified as soapstone? The mineralogy of outcrop adjacent to my rock location is identical to my rock (sometime in the past, my rock was removed from the outcrop and left on the ground about 100m away). However, the large--roughly 80m long, 3m-4m tall—rock was pock-marked with several circular carvings about 0.5m in diameter. What does this mean? This site was ancient quarry exploited by native American peoples for the soapstone to manufacture bowls! Pretty cool, but…some of the minerals (the amphiboles) in this rock are quite splintery! So, I wonder what it was like to use one of those ancient bowls. (1) the familiar thin section in cross-polarized light, and (2) humble hand sample of my metamorphosed ultramafic rock.
