In 1998 the City of Lincoln approved the street name of Schellbach Drive in honor of Officer Les Schellbach, who was killed in the line of duty on December 12, 1971. Recently one of our employees saw a memorial version of a street sign in another city and suggested that we do the same. On this 47th anniversary of Officer Shellbach’s End of Watch, Eilene Burns, who was married to Officer Schellbach when he was killed, unveiled the new signs. The Lincoln Peace Officers Association bought an extra sign and presented it to Mrs. Burns. Also present was retired Lincoln Police Chief Bob Barroso, who was shot several times during the same incident.
