I went to see a local production of Rent the other night with my girls, and even though I’ve seen it a few times over the years, this one touched me in a new way.
It was relatively faithful to the original, in terms of design and choreography, but the actors put their own stamps on the characters that didn’t make me think of the original cast, for a change.
That said, I was definitely transported back 20 years to my first introduction to this rock musical and the indelible mark it made on my life. Back then, I didn’t really understand it, I just knew it was speaking to me. These days I understand it all too well.
It’s poignant, it’s timeless, it’s on for a few more days.
