I used to hate Monday’s. They seemed like the longest day of the week. I was always so tired. I was dreaming of the next weekend. Do you have trouble staying on track with your health and fitness goals over the weekend? Try focusing on these things: • 1️⃣ Drink plenty of water! Drink half your body weight in oz of water. If you are consuming alcohol, you will want to increase this. 2️⃣ Move your body. If your plans don’t allow for a full workout, at least get in a walk, a 10 minute living room workout, jog in place, anything that gets your body moving! 3️⃣ Your family and friends. Live in the moment. Enjoy what you are doing and who you are with. Cherish every moment you have with them. 4️⃣ Choose the app or the dessert. You don’t need both with a meal. Living a healthy lifestyle includes eating what you want while knowing what is best for your body. 5️⃣ On Sunday, plan for your week. I used to binge every Sunday (usually as I was out shopping for my groceries to go home and meal prep) and “start again” every Monday. I would eat Chipotle then get frozen yogurt (with alllll the toppings) at the place next door. • As I was eating it, I felt bad. I felt ashamed. No food is ‘non fattening’. You gain weight by consistently eating in a calorie surplus. ➕ • Any food can make you gain weight if you are eating in a calorie surplus. You can gain weight by eating a calorie surplus of anything. 🍕🥙🥗🍔🍦🥦🌽 • The two pieces of pizza you ate for dinner didn’t make you fat. CLEANSING🍋 except naaahhh. I prefer to de-clutter. The other night, I just had this sudden craving, like an urge to dump everything out of my closet, re-organize things, donate, and get rid of things that I no longer use or need. . It was mostly for my mind, and the feeling that decluttering my space would open up more space for energy and feelings to move. I know, I know, it sounds all hokey pokey, but I once read a quote that went something along the lines of “a cluttered outside is a representation of a cluttered mind”. Kinda makes sense, right? This time of year is often when I feel the most anxious. Everyone seems to be starting something: school, work, new diet, the latest “cleanse”. Instead of forcing some change just because it’s “that time of year”, decluttering my space at home has become my #selfcare practice that makes me feel accomplished…and results in less “stuff” taking up space! 👚👖. . My #healthytip for you: without pressure, judgement or timelines, take the time to do what makes you feel good and gives you that sense of accomplishment. Because that’s self-care too. And the more we take time to take care of those little things, the more room it opens up for the bigger and more awesome things to come in! Why don’t we start with the most useless thing ever made? Yes, a balance. This number that appears up there, means nothing at all. I, myself had a hard time believing it but a number is not enough to show someone’s worth. Your worth is measured by so many other things like the amount of time you laugh in a day, the number of stars in your eyes when you talk about something you love, the amount of time your heart skipped a beat because you were so happy and so much more. The truth is, balances were created to make us unhappy about ourselves. No matter who gets up on a balance, they do not like what they see. So, why bother? What if we just threw it away, so we could wake up and not apprehend what’s going to appear on our balance. We could start counting amounts of laughter and of stars we have in us rather than the amount of body that we have. A body is just a body, you are so much more than just a body, trust me 🐻

Do you associate health with the number on the scale? I used to. 🤦🏽‍♀️ • I would stand on the scale hoping there would be good news written in the number only to be disappointed by the number that showed up over and over again. 😔 • I worked too hard in the gym and ate too well during the week to not have a lower number on the scale, right? Wrong. 👎🏽 • I wasn’t taking care of myself. I wasn’t loving myself. I wasn’t feeding my mind with love. I wasn’t focusing on the bigger picture. I wasn’t focusing on my happiness. All I cared about was the number on the scale. 🤷🏽‍♀️ • For the past 2 years I have only weighed myself at the doctor’s office! It feels so dang good not to feel like a victim to the scale. I don’t own one. I live for my happiness without depending on any number that shows up on a scale. I determine my weight by how I feel and how my clothes fit. 🙋🏽‍♀️ • You do not have to depend on the scale to determine your health. In fact, I believe depending on the number that shows up on the scale can hinder your weight loss progress. How to stick to a routine that doesn't suck? . FIRST off, change your thoughts. If you think it's going to suck, well hun it will. It's the basics: What you think, say and feel, is what's going to be attracted. So start think and saying positives words! Start attracting the POSITIVE! These become positive actions! HELLO affirmations! Girl, tell yourself daily that you are making changes because you are worth it. . SECOND. Focus on more then just the big picture, and this ties into the first step. So really dig deep, journal it out, and write down why you are on this new lifestyle change! Don't just go into this journey for losing weight (yes this can be a reason, but let it be more!), because it will feel like a chore. Start focusing on other things, like your health and happiness. For example, you're on this journey because you want more energy, less sluggishness and more confidence! THE WEIGHTLOSS WILL COME. PROMISE. . THIRD. Get support! Sometimes we need it, and that is ok! Have a friend, a group, or coach to help you! Just starting a lifestyle change can be a little intimidating, but that is ok. Before you embark on any nutritional change again, call it a diet, call it a lifestyle, call it whatever you want, I want you to ask yourself ONE question: "Is this sustainable?" (ie. can you do it forever?) Tell me about the last time you went on a plan - was it enjoyable? Can you count how many things you cut out, and labelled as “off limits” or "bad"? Did you skip social events because you didn’t want to derail your progress? Did you go anyways but then felt guilty about everything you ate, stating, “diet starts Monday!!” as you left? (A cute furry animal dies every time that phrase is uttered, please stop). New diets are introduced year after year because past ones weren't sustainable, and progress reverts when your eating habits revert. BTW we’re on the Keto craze right now in case you’re wondering what the fad du jour is. And before you get all Social Media Expert on me - I'm not 100% against keto as long as there is ACTUAL benefit to the person LONG TERM. You can make SMALL swaps to adjust to your tastes and preferences so that you're enjoying what you're eating but still working toward your goals. Ask - are you a carb lover? Or fats? Always include protein but play with the carbs and fats to match your tastebuds. Example, my dinner last night: this AH-mazing pineapple cheeseburger (thank you Vickie for the inspiration). Low on the carbs by swapping bun for lettuce, and grilled veggies on the side instead of pasta. BUT add in cheese and bacon for a major dose of delicious. If carbs are life to you, swap it the other way. While I love a good morning glory muffin or waffles I would much rather have bacon, nut-butter, cheese, or high fat Greek yogurt. My food choices reflect this now, and not only am I not hungry as often but I'm enjoying every meal of the day. I can't tell you what to eat, because I don't know your tastes. What works for you, won't work for another. But let's get real Janice, you're not going to stick to the diet you’re starting on Monday. So why not try finding something more sustainable, and more enjoyable?

✨Honesty Hour ✨ • Some days I think about going so much harder with my fitness and nutrition goals. Parts of me want to train so much harder and follow a nutrition plan to inspire others. • Some days I wonder if I should try counting macros and counting calories so I do know exactly what I am eating. • Some days I think about following a Workout Guide written by someone else. • ✋🏽THEN IT HITS ME! ✋🏽 • I lost over 40lb by not counting calories, never tracking a macro, doing workouts I make for myself, and ENJOYING THE PROCESS. • I know that I could have more than my two top abs poppin’ right now but I love date nights where I don’t overthink what I’m eating. I cook for my boo and a six year old. I have a full time job. I am HAPPY and I thrive best when I am not pressuring myself and restricting myself. • I have lost weight and started having muscles show WITHOUT restricting foods and enjoying MY workouts. • Whenever I go down the thinking path of wanting to look more toned and lift more weights and follow a strict routine just for the challenge of it, I remind myself of how much I love doing life the way that I am and I am so proud of how far I have come by LIVING! • So often we find ourselves scrolling social media and wanting what someone else has, even for a minute, but it’s not what YOU want. What diet will I try next? . 6 years ago, I was on the latest diet fads, hoping to find this “weight loss” goal. I was so brainwashed with all the “body goals” and “scale goals”, I truly had no love for what I was doing. I was just trying to be skinny, because that’s what I thought was considered healthy. . Wrong. Let’s be serious for a sec, are you on a diet right now. . Now be honest with yourself, do you feel good? Probably not. I’m about to share something with you that is truly tender to me. When I went through this phase of diets and constant hours of cardio, it really messed my body up. I’m talking about my hormones and menstrual cycle. I was diagnosed with amenorrhea. This is when you lose your menstrual cycle for long periods of time...because of physical stress (diets and hours of cardio), and doing it for long periods of time. From all the stress I put on my body, I lost my period for two years. 😔 I developed food sensitivities, digestive issues, anxiety and stress, sleep problems, skin issues, and imbalanced hormones.Did it ever come back? Yes, thank goodness. I started changing my ways for a little bit. And had it for a year, until I did my 1st bikini competition. I went through the cycle again. This time I gained the weight back + more so fast.  Yes, way more to this story, but you get the point, right? I did this twice.I caused my body so much stress twice. NO MORE. . I changed it all. I changed my mindset. I respected for me (not looks or weight). It Changed my life completely. #nomorediets Yes, I still have a few health issues that I am healing from the past, but This is why I have so much passion & drive to help & show women that diets ARE NOT THE WAY TO GO! Spending my Sunday evening with sweets. 😜 . Antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and vitamin rich sweetness I should say. Also, adding in my Fav honey. . I use to look at fruit as something bad because it has carbs....that's what saw it as. I didn't see it as nourishment to my body. But my whole perspective changed real fast when I started taking care of my body. Let's take another look. . Fruit has tons of vitamins and fiber in it! Here's the quick workout I did today! Keep in mind the video is slightly sped up for it to fit! 😜 . So this was focused on quads and some glutes. Nothing to fancy but super effective! Warm up first on a treadmill for 5 minutes. I also added in Banded bodyweight squats (bands wrapped above knees...keep tension on glutes. 4x20) before I started. . 1) Leg Press. Narrow stance to keep quad focused. Keep weight in heels and power through when pushing to the top. Control at the bottom. . 2)Low Cable Squats (no clue of the name haha). Really keep tension in the glutes trying the whole movement, and what I mean by that is it sort of feels like it's tight in that area. Like you're also contracted them....not squeezing them, but keeping tension. Push through the heels. . 3)Walking lunges. Take a longer step. Now remember to have a 90 degree angle with shin, knee, and femer. Feel a stretch in the glute of the leg that is extended forward. Push through the heel when coming up. . 4) **NOT TAPED** Leg extensions. 1x15, 3x20. Concentrate on control and tension at top. . 5)Banded (band above knees) glute bridges. My feet are placed a little wider than shoulder width, and toes slightly pointed out. Be fast paced but controlled. Squeeze and keep tension. DO NOT HYPEREXTEND YOUR SPINE AND HIPS.....warning, they burn. . 6) Ended with 8 minutes of HIIT on stationary bike. Put at level 6-8 and go as hsrd as you can for 30 sec, and slow the pace for 30 sec. REPEAT. . You will be sweating after this one! I kept my rest times super short too 20-30 secs for more intensity!
