Do you spend a lot of time overthinking and replaying negative chatter in your mind? Do you feel guilty for what you have done or ashamed of who you are? Do you often compare yourself to others, or make excuses? Are you experiencing burn-out?
Do you often speak badly about yourself in your head? You know - that inner voice that talks down to you and says: “You’re too fat to wear this?” “They all know you are a fraud and you should not be here?” “You will fail again” “You should find a man” “You should be ashamed for…” You don't have what it takes’’, ‘’ Don’t show your work, it is really bad” ‘What will people say?”, “You are so useless”, “You are too ugly for people to love you”. “You are the only one who can do it”, “you are not smart enough to do this”, “Shut up”, ‘’Don’t apply for that job”, “ You are so pathetic”, “You are not good enough”
Sounds familiar? Well, that is called bullying yourself and you are not alone. Who doesn’t? We all do it and it makes us unhappy and then we treat others badly—especially the closest ones.
I stopped listening to my inner bully many years ago when I understood that badgering, criticizing, belittling, or humiliating myself would never make me smarter, more confident, fitter, or more valuable or successful. The Inner Bully robs us from our happiness and keep us small because the truth is this:
It’s hard to love yourself and to thrive with a bully breathing down your head. It’s hard to feel loved when the one person who’s supposed to love you unconditionally (you) doesn’t. It’s hard to become the person you’re supposed to be when you don’t allow yourself to fail and to get back up. It is impossible to be happy till we realize that nobody’s perfect. Let’s stop the impossible pursuit of perfection. Let’s trust the love. Let’s love ourselves. Let’s fire our inner bully because love is always a good place to start a new beginning.
