With just one week of school left until the Christmas holidays I feel like I’m on the final countdown.
The last few days to finish any shopping off. The last chance to get the presents wrapped in relative peace and quiet.
The last few days to get organised before it all goes a little bit crazy and our normal routine goes out the window.
I love Christmas, I love how excited Callie gets and the look of excitement on her face as she opens presents. I love seeing family and spending more time with friends.
What I don’t like is the way we all seem to stress over making it perfect - me included - when actually our kids, our family, our friends would be just as happy spending time with us and making magical memories without all of the “extra stuff”.
Go easy on yourself this Christmas and just enjoy it.

OK but in all seriousness, I completely changed the way I eat. 99.9% of my weight-loss was a result of my diet, where diet means the types of food I put in my body, not a restrictive / fat loss / no carb / juice cleanse / temporary diet. It was super intimidating when I started to make changes and I needed a guide to follow because the kitchen is not my area of expertise. I used @nancyandersonfit
's 30 day slim down and lasted just past three weeks of 100% on plan before relaxing a bit and finding my own way. -
Nancy's plan is focused on elimination to pinpoint YOUR body's likes/dislikes. I found that I feel so much better when I remove dairy, gluten and refined sugar from my diet. I never noticed any sort of symptoms or effects previously in my life, but then again I've always felt a little sluggish and WHO KNEW THAT A LOT OF MY 'BELLY FAT' WAS REALLY JUST BLOAT. I didn't know. This needs to be taught in school, that the way our body looks isn't just body fat percentage, it's digestion and absorption and inflammation and a smorgasbord of internal happenings. I'm still figuring out which foods cause certain reactions for me, if I'm paying close enough attention. -
So cutting out cheese 😱😱😱 Yeah, I thought so too, but I haven't missed it one single bit. Once every few months I crave a big ol' pizza (and I go ahead and have a slice or the whole thing 🤷🏼♀️), but in my day to day menu it's just not a desire. My skin has also never been so clear and smooth and happy. 🤯 -
NOW, sugar. That still gets me. Like, devouring five huge coconut chocolate chip cookies that my sweet neighbor baked and brought over earlier this week. 🙄 Halloween actually killed me. I had stomach pains for days after that devastation. I have no control with sugar, so when I do have the strength I cut it out of my diet completely. After 3-5 days my cravings for it are severely decreased and then I can go anywhere from a couple weeks to a month without eating sweets. Depends on life events and my neighbor. 😂 My stomach immediately bloats up HUGE after I have any type of sugar, even just a little. *continued in comments👇🏼

PLUS 3 ACTIVATED brazil nuts. It's been a year since I began my transition to eating ketogenically. What and when I choose to eat now has definitely morphed into a different sphere. I was looking at this meal wondering if it would have been what I'd wanted to eat just over 12 months ago or less even! I'm pretty sure not.
I love that I no longer need to eat often: mostly twice a day with my evening meal being the main. Sometimes I only eat once a day because I'm not hungry and have plenty of physical and mental energy but #omad
is not a preference simply because I dont like eating too much in one session which, at this stage, I feel would be necessary to ensure I'm eating enough calories and nutrients to continue being healthy!
It's exciting discovering new things about my body experiencially along with all of the scientific information Im soaking up that helps me to intellectually understand how and why my body is reacting to everything I eat, drink, do. I love it!
I've been food aware for a long time and feel lucky that I am always open to new information too. If it wasn't for that, I would not be on this journey of discovery!
HERE'S A THOUGHT that's cruising around my brain at the moment: As far as macro nutrients are concerned - fats, protein and carbohydrates - did you know there is no such thing as an "essential carboydrate"? Life can be hectic and sometimes it's hard to find enough time to sit down for a salad. That's when I like making green smoothies. I get the benefit of all the fruits and veggies without having to spend thirty minutes chewing on it.
2 cups of spinach
1 ripe banana
1 cup frozen mango
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
2 Tbsp flax meal
Place everything in a high speed blender, blend and enjoy!!!

If you've been following along you've probably seen that yes, there are days that I may have pizza for dinner, I may have a few glasses (or bottle) of wine, I still go out to dinner, and I splurged and had a few Christmas cookies.🍪🍷 I've said it before and I'll say it again, this is NOT A DIET!! It's been a process of learning how to eat right to fuel your body and yes, you can splurge here and there and it won't make you gain all of your weight back by eating one "bad" meal.
I feel so much better physically and mentally and am so glad I made the decision to jump in head first!

••• B is 10 and is my sweet one, he has the biggest heart and is so compassionate. You won’t see him too much because he hates having his picture taken. Kenz is 7 and she is my little firecracker, she is full of sass and energy and oh my goodness I just adore her. God knew what he was doing when he gave me these perfect little opposites! ❤️
••• I’m a Navy brat and moved several times when I was younger, but I’ve been in Florida for over 25 years and it’s home now. I graduated with BS in Computer Information Systems from the University of North Florida in 2003 and since then, I’ve been working for a DoD contractor on a software system that handles a lot of their daily tasks (and saves tax payers a ton too! 😄) I love what I do, most of the time.. ••• What else..? My friends will tell you that I love to sleep and I always have my water cup with me. I’m addicted to crunching on ice. I know it’s an awful habit. I’m a vegetarian and would be vegan, but I can’t quit cheese.
••• Growing up, my dad was a runner and for as long as I can remember, I dreamed of running marathons, but I hated running.. until Kenz was a year old and the baby weight wasn’t budging. I fell in love with running after doing Couch to 5k and turned into a total running junkie. I finished 3 marathons, over 10 half’s, and more 5k’s than I can count.. until my body raised the little white flag and said “enough!”
