This kid’s name is Byron Overshown, a middle child of 3. All brothers. He is from Oakland by way of East Oakland. He lived his first three years of his life and continued to spend a lot of time through his childhood/teenhood on Gramercy Pl, a dead end street in the Sobrante Park area. He went to Highland CDC for preschool. His Father and Momma separated when he was 3. Momma then moved to 83rd and Holly, where she took her only 2 children then with her to live. Father stayed at Gramercy, Pl. From 83rd, Momma and children moved to 81st and Rudsdale. During this time, Byron briefly went to Brookfield Elementary school. Father was the Director at Arroyo Viejo Park Recreational Center on 77th and Krause. Byron loved spending time at Arroyo Viejo after school and during summers, as that place would become his sanctuary and general source of happiness. From 81st, Momma and children moved to Sacramento for a brief year, where she met a new gentleman and gave birth to her third son. From Sacramento, Momma, said new gentleman, and children then moved to 58th St and MLK in North Oakland. Byron then went to a school by the name of Washington Elementary, now known as Sankofa. Byron built a new cast of friends and support system through this stage of his life, drifting back and forth from North Oakland and East Oakland just about every day. Byron discovered Bushrod Park through his new found potnas and couldn’t get enough. All he ever wanted to do while in North Oakland was to go to Bushrod and play basketball with the homies. He would sometimes even sneak through a hole in a gate separating Washington Elementary and Bushrod during recess. Father would often pick up Byron after school and take him back with him to Arroyo Viejo. Byron looked forward to the summers in particular because that meant full days spent at Arroyo Viejo and temporarily living with Pops. Moving forward, Byron would go to all North Oakland schools(I.e Claremont Middle and Oakland Tech), but he could never stop finding himself back in East Oakland, where his sanctuary, family, and first friends were. Byron was a Father’s boy. Wherever Spote Breeze Sr. went, Byron went.
