When I was very young, at the suggestion of my father, I determined to reserve Sundays (our Sabbath) for doing only the Lord's work. That meant trading watching TV, homework, working for income, household chores and repairs, recreation, performances (sports, music, theater), etc. for activities like visiting the sick and lonely, attending church and taking the sacrament, studying the teachings of ancient and modern prophets, communicating with long-distance family and friends, journalling, working on family history, counseling with the Lord in prayer to make plans, teaching my children the gospel, etc. The successes I have been blessed with as a direct result of this practice are immeasurable and taking a day each week to focus on serving others always leaves me feeling energized and refreshed. You don't have to believe in a Savior to benefit from making Sunday a day of service, introspection and spiritual development; it's a universal principle. What do you like to do to recharge on Sundays?

A recent @thrivemkt
haul means... new bath products!
As you know, I'm doing my best to clean up my kitchen, beauty and fashion habits in an effort reduce my footprint. 🌎That said, I'm not tossing what I have on hand. Instead, I'm focused on using it up, then replacing it with a cleaner product that's made sustainably by ethical companies. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Let's talk face cleansers... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you know me at all, you know I love a good Japanese face wash. However, the ones we had been buying had some questionable ingredients. I decided to replenish our stock with @acurebeauty
! The #earthscience
scrub is a great exfoliant and the #acure
cleansing gel is the perfect gentle morning cleanser (i.e. no dry skin). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now, the bath bombs... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I've been buying @lush
, but have to admit that they're quite expensive. I don't mind splurging on something natural, #handmade
and super fun here and there, but needed something for the everyday bath. I found @level_naturals #bathbombs
. I love the scent and can't wait to use them for the first time after teaching at @ride.bln
Important note: @thrivemkt
currently only ships to the U.S. I make an order every time I go home. ♥️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It’s NOT boredom...
It’s, “I need to do something to AVOID how I am feeling”.
This Bloody Mary tastes equally as great sans straw. And also, it’s getting easier and less socially awkward to refuse straws everywhere I go!
I’ll be writing a blog soon with tips on how to reduce waste simply in your daily life (I’ve been learning so much)! But for now I’m going to simultaneously get drunk and read Wise Love - an incredible book about adopting an unconditionally loving lifestyle. @emily_rose_fesler
, this is the best bachelorette weekend ever 💕🥰🌴🥂

I’m holding an Emotional Eating Workshop TODAY (2/17) at 5pm PST...
I’d love for you to come. ❤️
Your mind can either work FOR you or hold you hostage. -
Emotional eating is like a thousand thoughts, all at once, creating millions of different feelings in our bodies that overwhelm us.
But we don’t know HOW to process them.
Or HOW to feel them. -
OR recognize that we even need to.
We aren’t taught how to feel, we are taught to suck it up and move on. -
Pain is gain. Keep moving forward. 😣
Then we get results in our lives we hate. -
We can’t stop. And we keep doing what we don’t want to do.
Eat. Drink. Drugs. Porn. You name it.
Emotional eating rarely looks like what it sounds because we don’t feel. We don’t know what emotions are.
I had to learn (still am) how to feel again. -
What feelings FEEL like in body and what do I do with them besides eat and push them aside.
Nobody wants to feel terrible. Sad. Mad. Lonely. Angry. -
So we eat to distract ourselves and put a band aid on it until next time.
Come learn what emotional eating is, why we do it and how to NOT do it anymore. -
Simple steps I’m sharing with you so that you can take control of your life for good. -
If you want to come....drop and emoji below and I’ll send you the details. -
I hope to see you there. 🥰
Spring is springing.... a #pause

I was very strict about avoiding any sugar with Logan his first 2 years of life and will do the same with Liam.
For many reasons, I didn't want him to get addicted to sweets and sugar, I wanted nutrient dense foods, not anti-nutrients and I wanted to help creatr a palette that loved a wide variety of foods, flavours and spices.
The obesity rate and diabetes are increasing at an alarming rate. .
When sugar was introduced it wad raw honey, maple syrup, cinnamon, pure leaf stevia and coconut sugar.
Yes, at times it was challenging. I had a lot of opinions being shared with me. If we were going to an event where there were going to be treats I brought my own. He never felt left out, never put up a fuss, he didn't know any different. I won't be able to control his food forever, but right now I can. I can also educate him and teach him along the way. Setting a healthy foundation.
This is so important for parents of young kids. It's hard to avoid sugar in this world, but it's so critical for the early developmental years. Tag parents.

‘No flower blooms all year long.’ One of my clients shared this beautiful quote with me. It reminds me that there are times for rest, going inward, listening, rooting down and times for ambition, expressing your creativity, and outward growth. Be patient with yourself. You are exactly where you need to be. ☀️💚 This little orchid by my kitchen sink just starting blooming again after a year and a half. I’ve never had an orchid this long and wasn’t sure when or if it would bloom again. I’m glad I kept taking care of it watering it each week. It bloomed in its perfect time!

😳 I can't even tell you how many times I've dreaded going to the supermarket because I didn't want to look up recipes, make a shopping list, cook things I'd never cooked before, and therefore didn't feel confident cooking.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That's the perfect recipe for a take-away, right?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Until I finally learned my lesson, and it's been easy sailing since...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌽 Instead of focusing on recipes, I focus on foods. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What foods would you like to eat in the next coming days?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🍅 Think about what's in season, readily available and fresh. Make a list of a handful of vegetables you'd like to eat in the coming week, along with a few fruits that are making your mouth water thinking about them.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉 Go from there and create recipes with your ingredients, instead of the other way around. Eating healthy can (and is, in my house) absolutely simple. Even recipe free MOST of the time!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉 Do you get caught up on recipes, too, like I did?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How do you navigate this each week?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Not a truer word said. Every action we take to lesson our footprint, increases the longevity of this magnificent planet. 🌏🌎🌍💜
Perhaps given the turbulence of the last 6 weeks however, these words connect with me on a far more personal level too....
It is not up to the universe, significant other, job, family (whatever/whoever) to place us on our path or show us the light. This I know. 🙏💚
It is up to us to continually work on us, to work on expanding our minds in a way that literally allows us to get out of our own way. 😯😌
I promised myself that this year I would focus on me, on what I can control and grow. I thought this meant being an island and a fortress. On the mat today however I realised that this also could mean community and connection with others. Thank you @powerlivingadelaide
for the realisation.
I guess what I am saying in this long winded Sunday reflection is ...
That the greatest threat to our own contentment is the belief that some great thing, outside of ourselves will happen to create it. However, doing the solo work does not mean we should not seek to connect with those also on their unique journey. xx

Ｔｈｒｏｗｉｎｇ ｆｏｏｄPurposefully throwing food can happen for a number of reasons. Your little one may be communicating that:
- they are finished
- they don’t want that food on their plate because they do not want to eat it or for it to touch their other food - they are practising their newly found understanding of cause and effect A great strategy to minimise the food throwing is implementing a “No, thank you” plate. Your little one has their eating plate in front of them and within their reach is a “No, thank you” plate. If you see your little one move to throw their food, put your hand over theirs and move it to the “No, thank you” plate and say, “No, thank you.” For older little ones who begin to throw, you could try saying, “You can put that on your “No, thank you” plate.” A great way to practise this, is with pretend food or with unprepared food (whole oranges/cucumbers etc). Set yourself and your little one up with two plates each, explain that one is for our meal and one is for food I’m learning to like and no, thank you I don’t want that on my plate today/tonight. Put a number of pretend foods on you plate and model by picking up a food and saying, “No, thank you, I don’t want you on my plate, you can go on my no, thank you plate.” Your little one will pick this up quickly by learning this concept through play and it allows them to learn without the pressure of real food if they find meal times difficult. Big tip, make the “No, thank you” plate a specific plate that you rarely use, because hell have no fury like a preschooler being served up their meals on the “No, thank you” plate 😂.
💥Battle of the ice creams💥
These can be good options for people who want to eat ice cream regularly and struggle with portion control (and are aiming to maintain weight/lose weight). Nutritionally these options are very similar, so pick the one you prefer. Personally my favourite was the @blueribbonanz
as it tasted delicious and had the most simple ingredients list. But generally, if I’m craving ice cream I would go for Connoisseur or the like and just have a smaller portion 😊
Remember these ice creams are still highly processed (definitely not a “health” food) and may upset sensitive bellies due to the addition sweeteners.
What’s your go-to ice cream?
Not the best looking photo but I was hungry and whipped up some chickpea pancakes, salad greens and tofu in 10 minutes. Satisfied now but still room for my indian curry i am making 😋
NUTRITION IS NEVER ABOUT DEPRIVATION.
The mind association with diet and under eating to loose weight is a huge and powerful one.
Here are some facts about under eating and how it impacts your body.
Calories equal energy.
When your calories are to low your energy will be to low this is because the body is allocating the calories to maintain important tasks supporting your brain and heart. Without energy doing other things are to arduous and you loose the ability to do things.
Your weight won’t budge if your aiming for long term weight loss drastically cutting calories every day means your in survival mode this does take a significant amount of time and a significant amount of weight loss to put your body into starvation mode which is very unhealthy and the following will happen negatively in terms of hormone health, muscle degeneration and bone weakening your skin elasticity and tone is compromised and your body starts to break down piece by piece.
Under eating will lead to constipation. Key for keeping your digestive system healthy is fibre and hydration and fibre can only do its job in helping you if you have enough water in your system.
Your constantly hungry it’s worth noting that you are not meant to constantly hungry and it is a signal from your hormones that they need balance and your body is in emergency mode.
You snap at everyone. The nickname is ‘hanger’ When your blood sugar levels are constantly low and out of kilter this creates negative feelings and responses because your brain is also low on energy.
You stick to a low calorie diet most of the time but then you cave in. The best way to stop this is to eat healthy dense nutritious foods and enjoy your treats in small sizes. Constantly denying yourself can lead to binge-type behaviour.
You feel really thirsty. If you don’t eat enough you are missing out on key electrolytes which are minerals in your diet. This leads to the constant thirst.
Over restricting calories really does negatively affect your mental and physical health. Focus on the quality of your food found in fruits, vegetables, wholegrains, nuts and seeds. TO LOOK WELL WE HAVE TO EAT WELL.
ｂａｂｙ－ｌｅｄ ｆｅｅｄｉｎｇ Yes, baby-led feeding, I haven’t got mixed-up with baby-led weaning 😂 (I plan on writing another post based on research published on the baby-led weaning approach and a speech pathologists point of view. For this post I want to focus on the most integral thing we need to do when feeding our babes, no matter what approach or decision we make in regards to feeding our baby, we need to ensure that it is baby-led. This means that we support our babies self-regulation by reading their communication and following their cues. Baby-led feeding can start the moment baby is breast, bottle-fed or fed orally. It may take a little while to understand and interpret their communication, for example, you may notice your baby looks as if she’s warding you off, so you following her communication cues and pause or stop breast/bottle/spoon feeding or oral feeding in general. You then wait to see what your babe communicates next (it may be, “I’m done and need a cuddle” or “I just needed a break”. A few of the significant benefits to baby-led feeding:
- improves babies functioning - improves parent/infant attachment and relationship - helps babes build on their communication skills. By using non-verbal communication such as gesture, body language etc, they learn - “if I turn my head, Mum knows I mean, “No, Thanks.” - better health/nutritional outcomes
“We are hard-wired to be held in the mind and heart of another.”
Communication with your babe starts in utero. Studies have shown that newborns preferentially respond to their Mum’s voice hours after birth. This indicates that the fetus is able to detect stimuli in utero and form memories of them. As early as 16 weeks, a fetus has been seen to respond to sound which is before ear development is complete.

Nourished by exquisite nature today! Every day I witness the infinitely beautiful and amazing ways life expresses itself, in humans, plants, animals and all of nature, in sunsets and surf, in desert scapes and magical beams of sunlight. In the twinkle of the eyes of someone smiling from their core, in the vulnerability of one who shares their story, in the shared space between coffee and words, in the tears of joy and grief, in the warm hands or hug of another who reminds us we are one... sometimes these moments take my breath away. Sometimes they do not get the attention they deserve. Today I stood in awe! And I choose to continue this practice moment by moment... because life, complex, rich, nuanced, beautiful, sometimes messy, sometimes exquisitely painful... life keeps expressing and what a gift to witness with curiosity, with wonder, with delight.... receiving it all with wide open heart.

🌱Tater Tots with a side of peeled carrots, cucumbers, & beets into a intricate basket weave design, that took me 1/2 a hour to perfect. BUT it still looks amazingly well plated! 😍
With a side of red radish flowers, fresh spinach & steamed broccoli. And a few drops of bbq sauce🤗 .
These tater tots are made with 2 peeled and boiled sweet potatoes in a pot of water over medium heat, for 25 minutes until fork tender. Drain water and cool completly with cold water. In a medium bowl Shred the potatotes together with 1 small onion, 1/4 cups carrot & 1/4 cup mashed tofu. Binded together with a
EGG REPLACER:1 tbsp of flax seeds & ground flax seed with 8 tablespoons corn meal until well combined. Seasoned with 1 tsp of garlic powder, pink salt, black pepper, crushed basil, cumin, coriander, chilli flakes, smoked paprika & a pinch of fennel Greek to taste. Mix evrething together and form into rectangular cylinder shapes to the desired tater top shapes, using your hands to make a total of 6 -12 medium size taters.Bake into a 400 degree F oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and crispy. 😋
Serve & Enjoy 🤗
Purple potatoes OR Orange sweet potatoes?
I love having steamed orange sweet potatoes! For its long lasting flavor & freshness.
I've noticed that purple potatoes are not as fresh and sweet.
🤔 I would much rather prefer orange potatoes over purple. I cant forget having Purple potatoes as much as I hate eating them for its beautifully bright purple color and texture that's is so photogenically pretty 💜

From the moment we find out we have a little life growing inside of us we begin to create a relationship, an intimate attachment. We do this with whispers of, “Keep growing little one,” a reassuring rub of our belly and praising our body for providing the nutrients our little one needs to grow. Then when they arrive we continue to build this attachment, in the early days by feeding them, communicating with them, holding them. As they grow, communication, feeding and relationship all become entwined. We aren’t really able to do one without the other.
Is it food prep Sunday? I always feel better once I've prepped up healthy food for the working week. Is this normal? Hehe. Today I am making these trail mix bars which use puffed puffed quinoa instead of rice to boost up the plant based protein content. You can't go wrong with nut butter, nuts, crispies and chia
Makes: 14-18 bars⠀
Preparation time: 25 mins. Refrigerate for 2hrs+⠀
150g maple syrup ⠀
3 tbsp. nut or seed butter ⠀
2 tbsp. coconut oil⠀
80g jumbo oats⠀
100g dried fruit of choice. I use 40 g dried goldenberries, 30g dried cranberries, 30g dried apricot⠀
100g nuts or seeds of choice.
20g dried goji berries⠀
4 tbsp. protein powder (pea, soya bean)⠀
30g dark chocolate chips⠀
¼ tsp. sea salt⠀
Optional: ½ tsp. ground cinnamon⠀
Line a square baking tin with greaseproof paper and grease. ⠀
Toast nuts or seeds if you would like a more aromatic bar. To do this, scatter onto a dry baking sheet and pop in an oven at 150ºC for 5 mins.⠀
In a medium sized saucepan, melt together the maple syrup or honey along with the nut or seed butter of choice and coconut oil and stir to form a silky smooth liquid. Set aside.⠀
In a large bowl, mix together the oats, crispies, dried fruit, nuts and/or seeds, goji berries, protein powder, dark chocolate and salt.⠀
Add the coconut oil mixture and stir to combine.
Pour into the prepared baking tin, level and press down firmly with a spatula. Refrigerate 2 hours+ to set, slice up into bars. Enjoy!⠀
