Does anyone else go a little overboard with the veggies? I love them so much! Sometimes I wonder if my subconscious thinks its my last day on earth, hence why I add so much to so many dishes I do. 🤣 🤣 Made this tonight.. Home made veg bolognese: *Nutritional yeast (my fave thing ever!) *Garlic *Turmeric *Parsley *Leftover pureed tomato sauce *Organic diced tomatoes *Mixed beans (about 75g all up) *Eggplant *Onion *Mushrooms *Capsicum *Broccoli *Carrot *Cauliflower *Green beans I sprinkled some Put Follow Your Heart parmesan cheese on top. 😍 😘
I wanted to share this with you tonight rather than tomorrow at the 'right social media time'. If you are wondering which diet philosophy to try, this study has shown that participants eating a #lowcarb diet had a greater quality of life than the low fat group (low fat group had no change in quality of life). There was no differences in weight loss. So if perceived 'quality of life' is of concern, low carb may be the way for you. Are you struggling with reoccurring UTI's or bladder sensitivity? 🌱 Antibiotics don't seem to help much - or at least don't kick the issue completely? 🌱 The underlying problem could be a suppressed Secretory IgA (SIgA). 🌱 SIgA is the main immune barrier found in your soft tissue mucosal lining of the urinary tract. It helps to defend against bacterial infections. 🌱 One of the root causes of a damaged or suppressed SIgA is STRESS! Some subtle signs which may indicate your liver might need some extra consideration might be in a presentation of headaches, foggy-headedness, lack of concentration, irritability or unexplained anger, nausea, fatigue and unexplained itchy skin. In the months leading up to the festive season it’s the time to address your often forgotten about detoxification organ. Dietary interventions can be of most use if you can’t get off to see a naturopath for herbal lovin’, consider turmeric and cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cabbage etc) by the truckload alongside adequate protein sources and 2-3L of water a day to assist your liver with all its detoxification chores.. Belly laugh out loud. Sometimes in spite of our best intentions we can lose it, and no amount of colouring helps. Personally, I think losing it on occasion is a good thing. It’s better out than in. But, if your anxiety is getting the better of you, if you are imploding or self-destructing everyday, it’s time for some TLC. It’s time for some help. This level of anxiety is not a laughing matter. ~ Always look at what you can control in what feel like uncontrollable situations ~ Tea (not coffee~ increases anxiety) and talk with a friend. Saw this and it resonated. After I posted my last smoothie post about not particularly the enjoying these 75% green smoothies at the moment someone asked if it was worth it. And I immediately said yes! Here's why. 1. I feel great! I have still felt a bit under the weather after having flu a few weeks back but feel I am on the mend 2. Training sessions this week have been awesome, maybe smoothie related? 3. I've been training hard all year and tweaking training but still not reached a goal I set so why? I've had a really good wholefood plant based diet, decreased fat, decreased sugar, 50% green smoothies daily so what else could I do? Hence trying this smoothie regime the 30 day #smoothieshred Also getting in the pool and increasing my strength yoga practice. 4. I've been really impressed with everything I have read about this smoothie shred from @goodbyelupus on her @plantfitsummit interview and on the Smoothie shred fb page, I don't have chronic disease but I would like to signpost people to things they can try. How can I do that well without trying it. Now if someone says oh no too much kale I can say halve it with spinach, or not sweet enough I can say add some very ripe banana. 5. With smoothies you consume far more than you would be able to manage in a day when you add the total to your meals, plus the boosting ingredients like flaxseeds and other things I add are so vital for good health. 6. The crux of the matter is that only by finding out what doesn't work can we find out what does! Now I may only have berry smoothies for the majority of the shred but I need to try a few more ideas first! I need to find what works and what doesn't ! So yes definitely worth it! Today's concoction was 75% spinach, watercress and celery (apx 50%spinach) 1/4 flaxseed 25% mango and very ripe banana And whilst it may not be as nice as the berry one it was certainly not bad at all! I knew that the contraceptive pill can damage the sex drive of women, but I didn’t know that it could change the structure of your body long term.😟 . A study that was published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine in 2012 measured the thickness of the labia minora, the size of the clitoris and the size of the entrance of the vagina in women on the pill. It found that after only three months of use, pill users had thinner labia, smaller clitorises and a decreased entrance of the vagina that correlated with increased pain during intercourse. In addition, these same researchers showed decreased orgasm in the women on the pill.😔 . Vaginal dryness, low sex drive, painful sex, increased thrush infections, and depression are all very common side effects of the pill. This is actually yesterday but I didn't get a chance to post. So Day 5 of #smoothieshred I have to confess I am not enjoying them, the high portion of greens I am finding too overwhelming. Although I did enjoy the berry on day 1 and 2 so I may have to stick to that. However health wise I am feeling great and despite the reduced sleep I get on work days I am feeling energised and had a great training session yesterday. They are also certainly a cleansing smoothie 💩💩💩😂 Anyway yesterday I used mango as the fruit but it was very bland and I struggled to drink it all but I did! It was however much easier than the kale one!!! Nothing ventured nothing gained! Recipe 75% spinach I used just over 1/4 cup flaxseed as it is too thick otherwise for me 25% mango Top up with water. {I Made It....} Semester 2 is now officially finished. My last exam is done and dusted. Aahhhhh... This semester has challenged me in more ways than I can count. Endless assignments, countless hours and a few tears. It felt like a true marathon... I kept telling myself... “almost there... keep going.. I know you’re tired... you’re almost at the finish line.... “. This semester was my first real big crack at pretty much a full time uni load and man did I learn some lessons. I learned... - I don’t have to race to the finish line. As much as my personality type tells me that I do need to. - I enjoy learning so much more when I take my time. - My gut, hormones and everything else in my body does not like to be stressed. At all. - I still really, really love what I do. - I don’t enjoy just learning the basics to get through, I love the nitty gritty details. - I’m surrounded by many beautiful souls who are always there to pick me up when I need it. - I can always achieve more than I think I can. - Always. Always. Always listen to my body. So yep. A big learning curve for me!! But let’s face it, that’s why we’re here isn’t it? I now definitely have a whole new next-level appreciation for all my beautiful uni mums doing full time! You are my absolute idols! Ahhhhhh... so now, this pooped, worn out, maxed out mumma is going to go and take some time to unwind, uncoil and turn off this hard working brain for the next few weeks until I start of my Summer Research Project in Dec 12th. Once my Calendula started blossoming, I harvested the flowering head and dried them & then infused them in Vitamin E oil for 6 whole long weeks, once the colour streamed through I filtered it and started using it. I was suffering from Perioral dermatitis on my chin and near my mouth from god knows what but I decided to heal it naturally and infused Vitamin E to moisturise and sooth and the Calendula to almost sterilise the affected area whilst reducing inflammation, you see Calendula is great for wounds where the skin is broken so the perfect dermatitis or pimple cream! Many who know me well know that my favorite food is Thai food. Specially any and all types of curry. I love trying traditional dishes of any country. However, I also love to combine flavors for a fun twist. Who says you can’t use brussels sprouts or potatoes in a Thai curry dish? That’s what I had so that is what I used along with extra firm tofu for some protein. I chose a yellow curry sauce from Trader Joe’(one of my FAVORITES). I strive to incorporate more plant based meals and have done so here with a meatless option just shake things up a little. It’s always fun to try new flavors and combinations. Do not be scared to throw something together you would not normally cook in one dish. It not only promotes creativity in the kitchen but also helps reduce food waste. There are no rules when it comes to cooking! Just have fun and see what happens! If it doesn’t quite work, that’s ok! If you have type 2 diabetes, having good diabetic control of your blood sugar is so important. People with poor diabetic control are at greater risk for gum disease and more likely to suffer from tooth loss. They also don’t heal as well as a controlled person. Due to the soluble fiber beta-glucan, oats may improve insulin sensitivity and help lower blood sugar levels. It’s also what helps you feel satisfied longer. Serves 2 Ingredients 2/3 cup rolled oats @bobsredmill 2/3 cup unsweetened almond milk 2 tbsp PB2 powder @pb2foods 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder 2 tsp chia seeds 1/4 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp vanilla 2 tsp pure maple syrup Combine all ingredients in microwave safe bowl. Microwave for 3 minutes. Divide into 2 servings.
