Making a real effort to eat the healthful food as often as possible. Which balances out the less healthful. This weekend has been overindulgent and I haven't slept well as a result. Woke up craving coffee. Not the best start to the day. So today I'm eating loads of colourful vegetables and fruit, saying no to chocolate and treats, swapping wine for herbal teas and water. And I know my sleep and energy levels will benefit from a day of healthful eating. I’m going to need an extra cup today…I can already tell. Maybe it’s the fact that my cat decided to have one of her “interactive sleeping experiences” with me last night. Those involve a lot of very special cat attention at 2am. Precious. Or maybe it’s the list of things to get done that I keep seeming to not get started on. Either way, coffee will fix it. Especially because I’ve loaded it with MCT oil for brain fuel (to-do list, I’m coming for you), collagen for gut healing, joints, hair and nails (I’ll be looking & feeling cute while I get stuff done), and healthy fats from cashews (no blood spikes here!). Introducing our third founder, Robyn Puglia. Robyn qualified from The Institute for Optimum Nutrition in 2009. She made the transition to Nutritional Therapy from Medical Aesthetics after 9 years in that industry that included managing clinics in Australia, Japan and finally London – working with acne, ageing and skin hypersensitivity. By the time she qualified from ION, she had already started lecturing for supplement companies on Skin Health and had discovered a love for speaking and education that paralleled her love for clinical practice. Her own struggles with extra-intestinal manifestations of Coeliac Disease and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome lead her to begin her studies with The Institute for Functional Medicine in 2011 and she was one of the first 12 in the UK to become a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner (IFMCP). In 2013 Robyn started working as a consultant with Regenerus Labs providing education and technical support related to complex cases, chronic infection and autoimmune disease. She is regularly invited to lecture for nutrition colleges, online summits and other Nutritional Therapy and Functional Medicine events each year and is a popular and well-regarded speaker. Robyn has offered professional mentoring to Nutritional Therapists , Registered Dieticians and MDs since 2013, and has supported many individuals and groups in this way on topics such as organic and amino acid testing, chronic viruses, methylation, autoimmunity and many other subjects relevant to nutritional therapy and functional medicine. Alongside professional mentoring, technical support and education and her own studies, she runs a busy private practice and specialises in supporting people with autoimmune disease, complex cases and unexplained illness. Robyn, Laura and Alex are thrilled to be launching their professional mentoring program in 2019. They collectively have a deep passion for sharing their knowledge to support practitioners on their Functional Medicine journey. I read an interview with Sandra Bullock on her latest film which really resonated so thought I would share. ° She was reported to say "the way motherhood has been represented on film needed to not just change, it needed to expand because the complexities of being a mum, I don’t think, have not been fully represented cinematically" ° I am really behind this. The false images of women sailing through motherhood are so damaging. We hold ourselves up to these ideals and it feeds the *I am not enough* voice in our head. This can lead to health problems in itself as we berate ourselves and speak unkindly to ourselves. ° That is why I love the #motherhoodunfiltered movement championed by @alexandrasacksmd . We need to change the conversation. ° I would add that although I talk a lot about being open about motherhood, it has also brings me the most incredible joy every day. There is no false binary of Good OR bad. It is always a mix of both. Ups and downs. Just like life. Learning and growing together. Such a gift. ° Talking authentically about motherhood and sharing stories is so powerful so let's keep the conversation going ° Sandra was also reported to have said it is important to shatter the “fairytale” idea that all women are natural mothers. We all need help with the transition, I believe. That is why I am designing a postpartum programme. Simple measures like: ▪️ increasing your daily steps - ask Santa for a fitbit or pedometer or download an app on your smartphone ▪️Shake out your rugs ▪️Clean your windows ▪️Put some music on and dance while you cook, clean or work ▪️Try a standing desk ▪️Park further away and walk ▪️Get off the bus earlier ▪️FIND A FITNESS BUDDY so much research to show the benefits of sharing goals. MEATLESS MONDAY! Although I believe the human body has been designed to thrive off meat, I never judge anybody for making their own food choices and I’m a veggie fiend and always looking for interesting ways to recreate traditional dishes. In addition it’s great to give your body a cleanse out and a great way to do this is to increase FIbRE = veggies veggies veggies !! Say Hello to meatless Monday’s and welcome Cauliflower Steak 😍and don't worry it's wayyy easier to make than it sounds! Try before you judge! Ingredients 👉🏼 1 large head cauliflower, sliced lengthwise through the core into 4 'steaks' 1 - 2 tablespoons of coconut oil 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice 🍋 2 cloves garlic, minced 1/3 cup chopped parsley 🌱 1 tsp each ground cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, quality salt & pepper Method 👉🏼 Preheat oven to 200 degrees Combine coconut oil, lemon juice, garlic, spices, salt, and black pepper together in a bowl. Pour 1/2 of the marinade over the tops of the cauliflower steaks. Roast cauliflower steaks in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Gently turn over each steak and pour with remaining mariande. ~ ‘How are you?’ ~ 💛⠀ ⠀ The question we ask or hear at least a few times a day. But do we expect an honest answer when we ask it? And do we provide an honest answer when asked? ✨⠀ ⠀ When I moved to London 10 years ago, it was quite a new cultural thing for me to ask people how they were as part of saying hello. After a while I noticed that it's actually a very generic question to which you would respond with a generic answer. Often, anything longer than "I'm good", or "Not too bad" would be met with slightly confused expressions. 😬⠀ ⠀ But shortly I noticed that I would also start using the generic response with my friends. As a person for whom sharing how I feel does not come easy, it was a 'comfort zone' for me. I could just say 'not too bad' and I wouldn't be asked any further questions or having to open up to people. 🤷🏼‍♀️⠀ ⠀ Thankfully, I now have people around me for whom one sentence would not do. People that want to know how I REALLY am, what's on my mind, what's bothering me, what challenges I am facing. I’m also trying to slowly get out of my comfort zone and really mean it when I ask the 'how are you' question to people who are not my close friends. DoTERRA Monday!! All I want for Christmas is a happy digestive system!! I didn't use to promote supplements much, I thought you could get everything from food, after all, food is medicine. For me, I had to change my ways. I was over feeling terrible ALL THE TIME because my digestive system was messed up, struggling. I was always in pain, bloated, uncomfortable, hated wearing pants that weren’t low riding for the pressure, was diagnosed with ibs , told I had food allergies and was told to live with it. When I got healthy, cleaned up my diet and lifestyle, things were much improved. I was finally pooping! Truthfully, I miss coffee. My husband, Tony, carefully sources & roasts our beans to perfection - his coffee is crafted w/love & is heavenly! Earlier this year I reluctantly gave up caffeinated coffee to heal from the adrenal dysfunction following “empty nester syndrome.” Because he’s awesome, Tony began roasting the absolute best decaf I’ve ever tasted - which I mostly continued to chose even after healing my adrenals. Is salt bad for you?! Well; there are two types! You have your common table salt 🧂 and then you have your unrefined sea salt! (My fave is @redmondrealsalt ) What’s the difference? Well, your common table salt lacks natural minerals, likely contains iodine.. which could be harmful for those who have thyroid issues. It’s 97.5% sodium chloride and 2.5% additives, and it’s processed (purified) in a way that involves re-crystallization at over 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit. BUT then you have your unrefined sea salt! In which it contains 84 essential minerals required by the human body. It’s 85% sodium chloride and 15% trace minerals!!!! It’s a good source of magnesium, which almost everyone’s deficient in. First time doing pork chops in the cast iron was a success ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ •seared pork chops• ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ . We put them in the cast iron with the fresh thyme and garlic, seared them and then finished them off in the oven. So delicious and flavorful! We get our meats from the #farmersmarket or #vmillermeats always and we have yet to be let down 🤗✨

This deserves another post. Gonna go whip one up in the kitchen now. . My version of a rose latte inspired by @folkdetroit . . Take 2 cups almond or coconut milk . Add 1/4 tsp of organic raw beet root powder. I used @mrm_usa brand . Add one capful of rose water. A little goes a longggg way! . . Heat until warm in a saucepan. . Add One scoop @vitalproteins . . Add 3 tbsp coconut butter. I used @nutiva brand . . Add cardamom, cinnamon, and ginger powder to taste. . Add 1/4 teaspoon coconut nectar or honey or maple syrup (optional).
