Killing this cold with chicken + veggie soup 🍲🤒. I hadn’t been sick in almost two years, and of course I had to pick up a virus on the plane back from Toronto🙄. I wasn’t prepared with my @stfrancisherbfarm deep immune.. I wonder if I would have gotten sick if I had been taking it! I’ve been supplementing with oregano oil and echinacea since Friday and I have to admit - the severity of this cold isn’t bad... it’s just taking forever to get over! .. So the last two days I’ve worked from home and spent most of my hours on the couch. Tonight I’m going to bed EARLY. I’m nourishing my body with VEGGIES in this homemade veggie soup... lots of ginger tea, too! .. Letting my body do its thing. I no longer fight myself when I need something. Yep, a little indulgence.⠀ ⠀ Do you know why I say indulgence? Because good nutrition isn't a Monday to Friday thing that is ruined on a weekend. It is consistency all week and with consistency all week there is room for a little indulgence.⠀ ⠀ What do I mean by indulgence though?⠀ ⠀ I'm not talking a whole day of pizza's chips, pies, KFC, McDonalds. It's in moderation.⠀ ⠀ Maybe you will have a couple of scoops of quality ice cream after dinner one day. I first met Angelo when he requested a Nutrition Assessment. He had done obstacle course races in the past, but 2018 was the year he decided to take it seriously. ‍ I gave Angelo some nutrition, supplement and lifestyle recommendations based on his assessment. ‍ In just a few weeks he noticed that his headaches went away, he had less sugar crashes throughout the day and was getting much more sleep every night which translated to more energy for his workouts. ‍ After tackling @OCRWC , he signed up for my OCR Peak Performance Program and continues to see progress. ‍ "It's an eye opener how limiting I was with the way I treated my health outside the gym. My eating for one was too rigid; I didn't bother eating more colorfully or vary my daily meal plan. Costs were part of the reason, but I didn't enough know of nutrition to experiment. I also wasn't sold on the idea of drinking 2L of water a day...it felt too much to drink. ‍ The same went for my recovery outside training; all I knew was to rehydrate and eat protein right after the WOD. ‍ I've been making adjustments on the fly, but I feel more energized than before. Tried pickling my own onions last night - turns out it’s the easiest thing ever and adds some great flavour to any bowl or salad! Using really thinly sliced red onions, bring equal parts water and white vinegar to a boil. Add 1-2T sweetener, like coconut sugar, honey or maple syrup and stir until it’s well mixed. Remove from heat and add the onions in. #TastyTuesday 🥣 - In our household, there’s always some type of protein isolate on hand.. our go-to is @truenutrition because not only is is affordable, but their “TrueFlavors” are great on digestion! They’re free of artificial dyes/fillers/flavorings and sweetened with stevia. 🍃 I like both the Whey and Pea Protein Isolates, but I should note the Pea is MUCH thicker and, uh, natural-tasting. 😄 - One of my favorite ways to use protein isolate is by making #proats ! This is not a beautiful picture but it was beautiful dinner. After a the first strength training session I’ve had in weeks, I’ve been feeling kinda meh, and a full hour of amazing yoga with @yogaglo I feel amazing. This could almost be #vegan but I made baked tuna patties to go with it. Rice, beans, amazing shredded cabbage salad with a walnut and sunflower seed “tahini” type sauce, roasted beets, shredded carrot, the works. It was soo satisfying. Holy crap. Seriously. My kind of morning 🌼 To be fair I don’t make these during the week, but that’s what the weekends are for. I am gluten and dairy free so all my meals have to be too! Here's the recipe for this delicious moderate carb waffles. 2 servings (I eat the whole thing). 🌀 2 servings of @birchbenders  Paleo mix (why Paleo?- this one has a great nutrition profile with no high glycemic ingredients, also has more fiber and protein in this mix) 🌀10 grams of @vega_team  protein powder (or 1/2 scoop) 🌀H20 And thats it! Super simple, and tastes amazing. 😍 Macros are for this WHOLE recipe.... 318kcal. 34g of carbs, 15g of fat, 17g of protein. And 11g of fiber!! WARMING VANILLA + CINNAMON SMOOTHIE BOWL🙋🏻‍♀️.. If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I love my green smoothies😍. I load them up with greens and vitamins from @praninorganic and feel awesome knowing that I’ve started the day with such a nutrient-dense breakfast💪🏻. .. Today was different - I wanted a hug in a bowl🤷🏻‍♀️. So I made myself a comforting vanilla cinnamon smoothie! This is a variation of an old recipe I used to make all the time - there’s a hidden ingredient in here to make it thick, creamy and filling. It’s OATS! .. Here’s the recipe in case you want to give it a shot✌🏻: Half a banana Scoop of collagen Half scoop of @genuinehealth protein (I used natural, but you could use vanilla for extra vanilla flavour) 1/4 cup raw walnuts 1 tbsp flax seeds 1 tbsp pumpkin seed (I’m seed cycling right now so you could sub this for another seed or just double up on flax) 1/4 cup gluten-free and organic oats 1 tsp or more of cinnamon (however strong you like it!) 1/2 tsp or more vanilla extract (however strong you like it!) 👉🏻Blend it up. Top it with YUMMY things like coconut chips, granola or nut butter of your choice. DIVE IN🏊🏻‍♀️. .. What’s your go-to warm and comforting breakfast?
🎄#GINGERBREAD MEN (same same, but different) - GF, VEGAN, FODMAP FRIENDLY AND EVERYTHING ELSE 🎄 When you reunite with your homegirl and Christmas is around the corner it’d be rude not to bake gingerbread men 🤷🏽‍♀️. 🔥INGREDIENTS🔥 - 1/4 cup nuttelex. - 1/4 cup natural peanut butter. - 1/2 cup coconut sugar. - 3 tbsp maple syrup. - 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon. - 1/2 tsp ground ginger. - 1/4 tsp nutmeg. - 1tbsp flaxseed meal + 3 tbsp water (flax egg) - 1.5 cup buckwheat pancake mix OR buckwheat flour. ——————————————————- MIX/BLEND+ ROLL OUT + FLATTEN. Use cookie cutters - preferably ginger bread men shaped OR if your like me who doesn’t own such a tool, use what ever shape cutters you can find. Bake for 20 minutes in oven (use baking paper).
