Aquamarine pools filled littered with the branches of old trees that have collected over many years, they look really close to the surface but that’s just an optical illusion, they’re deeper but the water is so clear the depth plays with your eyes.
Set up beneath a tall silver fern and totara tree that have their leaves illuminated with strong sunlight, it looks like they’re all reaching out toward to crystal clear aquamarine waters before them, such a beautiful way to frame this landscape and bring out the best in it with native flora and sunlight dancing on the waters surface.
Blunt Umbrellas are in hot demand with this crazy spring weather.
Twisting roots lurching out toward the water like a large gnarled wooden hand and casting dark reflections across the water, you can see the ever changing ebb and flow of the water by how muddy and bare the bank is, only a few plants can hold on.
The way the kiekie have been stained by the mud from the rising river almost creates an alienlike landscape devoid of rich colour.
Making our way slowly towards Mt Angelus Peak.. the weather and snow conditions were perfect..
Pathway through ancient old growth New Zealand forest, towering matai and kahikitea trees made this place their home, the tall trees have become home to native wildlife like Keruru, Tui and Piwakawaka.
The roots of an ancient New Zealand Podocarpus, this tree must be at least a couple hundred years old, amazing how trees can live for such a long time and grow to such sizes like this.
Entire forest understory dominated by dense tangles of Kiekie, these flaxes can grow from both forest floors and on the trunks of trees even going as far as climbing to the tree tops to hang from the trees branches.
Traditional Maori village at the Hamilton Gardens, those little mounds leading to the building have kumara/sweet potato growing beneath them.
Oh the places you will go! Magic moments like this are all over the place in the Kiwi outdoors. 👌 #MakeItHomeNZ

We had been at the summit so long that the previous evening’s snow had begun to melt, so quickly that we imagined we could actually see it receding up the slopes. What had started as a white/gray world of snow and slush had turned into a near cloudless day. Forget the crunchy ice for our descent; we were getting mud…
