Jumped the pond. Feeling jet lag as heck. Lower back is tight like a tiger. But dang does it feel good to move my body today. These movements should all come from the traverse abdominals. Slow & controlled, using your breath to initiate movement. Key cues- Stay in a neutral spine. Try to avoid curve in the back(small space between your back and the floor) Think of pulling your belly button in towards the spine. You should not have any coning(where the abs stick up and out). Think of a corset around your ribs to your waist drawing everything in and up. ________________________________________________________ * Single Leg lift- keep the pelvis very still and stable. Inhale touch toe down, exhale pull knee back up. * Alternating leg changes- exhale as you switch the legs. Make sure you arnt tucking or arching as the legs change. Keep abs drawing in, pelvis stable, * Leg slides- inhale out exhale in. Think of pulling the leg in using yours TVA. * Supine spine twist- inhale over keeping the knees together and even. Opposite hip will come up a bit. Exhale as you pull through the oblique back to center. Think of drawing the ribs and hips back to the floor using the obliques. Iโ€™ve been trying to pick out photos and clips to share from the weekend but I have so many! I narrowed it down to just a few and Iโ€™ll post in my IG TV too. I had 32 months away from competing for so many reasons. I am not the same person I was back then. Shows like this weekend @ifbbproportugal @2brospro_events and the #VeronicaGallegoPro are so enjoyable and each one is an opportunity to learn and grow. Special thanks for this weekend to the organisers and staff of @ifbbproportugal an exceptional show with great thought and consideration for both the athletes and the spectators. On schedule, amazing venue and thoughtful touches like medals and personalised mementos for the athletes. Core Activation Warm-Up Routine . TAG a friendโ—๏ธ . The "core" is a loose term thrown around the health and fitness industry, especially when it comes to "core training". There is a lack of consistency when people discuss the term "core stability", however an article by Tricia Majewski-Schrage, Todd A. Evans, and Brian Ragan in 2014 helped to develop a consensus amongst content experts of a working definition. "Core stability is the ability to achieve and sustain control of the trunk region at rest and during precise movement". The authors also agreed that essential components to core stability included muscles and neuromuscular control. We like to think of the core as a force transducer within the kinetic chain; a medium for transferring energy and force from the lower to the upper body. Think of popular sports and movements like pitching in baseball, or a golf swing. . The content experts all mentioned 5 key muscles to core stability: the transversus abdominis, internal and external oblique, rectus abdominis, and multifidus. It is important to note these muscles connect to the pelvis, the spine, or the ribcage. However it is important to appreciate muscles of the lower and upper body that AFFECT these core muscles. For instance the glutes connect the femur (long leg bone) to the pelvis. The serratus anterior connects the scapula to the ribcage. If there is an underlying dysfunction of these muscles, core stability can be AFFECTED due to the overlying fascial connections. Therefore the core stabilizing muscles mentioned earlier may not be able to stabilize the trunk, keeping it stiff and still. Here is one of my favorite warm-up routines described in an article by Benjamin C Y Lee and Stuart M McGill to activate the core stabilizers and increase stiffness. . 1) Side planks with banded clams 2) Banded Single Leg Bridges 3) Alternating isometrics of obliques and abs at 90/90 4) Banded bird dogs 5) Modified buttress presses . Do 5 sets of 5 reps of each exercise before any exercise or activity, and you'll feel more in tune with your body because your nervous system and appropriate muscles have been woken up! #core #abs #birddog #obliques #sixpack #6pack -

PROJECT FIDDIES โ€” Here it is!.. My second set of 4 reps. โ€” Was only planning one top set of these but my spotter got a bit touchy feely during my first attempt and ruined my video so had to do it again for the gram! โ€” Ive done a ton of work on scapular stability recently and its paid dividends on that fourth rep. I was locked in, traps didn't shrug up, shoulders were glued to the bench and I completed a slow hard rep with really solid form, keeping tension where it is supposed to be. โ€” Next goal it to turn this into 6, then 8, then 10 and so on - you get the jist, keep progressing! โ€” #gains #benchpress #progressnotperfection
