I used to shun the similarities between Pilates and Yoga. I think I have PTSD from people saying “Yeah I do Pilates!Wait no, I guess it’s Yoga. Same thing right?” NO!!! IT’S SO NOT! While there are similarities between Pilates and Yoga there are many many more differences. However, for those of us who love both there is a bit of crossover. So another core work out for you! 💪🏼I usually 10-15 min core work after every work out and depending on that days work out ill change up the core work to compliment it •• My form still needs loads of work but its all a learning process and loving every step of the way. This work out focuses mainly on supper set eccentric loading of the rectus abdominus (6 pack) with some stability and rotation thrown in for some extra range of motion burn! •• Round1: 3 sets. Hanging leg raise, 10reps/ Hanging knee raises, 10reps/ Hanging leg raise, 10reps. •• Round2: 3 sets (10kg med ball) Decline russian twists, 10 reps/ decline sit ups, 10reps/ Decline russian twists, 10reps. •• Round3: 2 sets (5kgDumbbell) Weight knee raises, 10reps/ leg raise, 10 reps (if you get tired finish with knee raises) •• Round4: 3 sets (10kg plate) Decline abb halos, 10 reps •• Round5: 1 set to failure Dragon flags •• Keep rest times between sets short and make it as intense as you can and your core will be screaming, i was giving my self 30-45 seconds between each set witch is why my form gets less tight as fatigue sets in. Let’s talk Abs (abdominal wall) Most of us are lacking in this department but most of us want a 6 or 8 pack am I right 😩🤔 . . Most of us have no idea how many muscles make up the abdominal wall or why we need to train them not only for that sexy 6 pack but to actually prevent lower back pain, stand up tall, protection of our SPINE MAYBE , but you know a 6 pack is way better than all those things anyways 😎 . . Think of the abdominal wall like the castle that protects the king and Queen , it surrounds them from all angles , that’s what the abs are to your spine 🤯‼️ So the rectus abdominis (that 6 pack muscle ) (flexion of spine) the external and internal obliques( side abs ,rotation of spine ) transverse abdominis (horizontal muscles that gives that V cut usually more prominent in males) but is also very important in compressing the abdominal cavity (aids in forced expiration) (breathing out) can’t forget the back right ?? (Erector spinae) Extension of the spine . . NO skeletal structures supporting just mutidirectional layers of muscles which must be trained and built! . . Just gave you a little anatomy lesson there 🙌🏽 . . Moral of the rant , build your wall , make it unbreachable , protect your spine , your abs are muscles and clean eating alone ; will not make them pop ! 🙀 yes I said it ! . . Obliques ✅ Lots to remember when doing this essential Pilates Matwork exercise 💯 Extend your leg only low as pelvis is stable, keep TVA engaged to keep ABs flat, keep scapular stable, and most importantly use the obliques to rotate the spine, and think about rotating from the ribcage, not pushing head or pulling shoulders and last of all always rotate towards the flexed knew. Hey my friends, Happy Wednesday! I have some awesome oblique exercises for you. Check it! - 👉 Thread the needle (sort of) - do this on each side for 30 seconds. If you can, repeat two more times. If not, no worries. You can increase the reps in the weeks to come! - 👉 I call this the Full Body Get Up. Do you like the name? Anywaaay, perform this exercise with no weights to begin. Once you feel confident, add a small weight 1lb, 3lb or 5 lb. Do this exercise 8 to 12x on one side and then switch sides. Repeat two more times. - 👉 Oblique Crunch with Flair. Another one I named 😁. Make sure you can perform this exercise correctly with your foot on the ground before you add leg movement. And, make sure your belly is super tight so that your spine stays in neutral (doesn't arch way up and hurt 🤪). Same as above - 8 to 12x, three sets total. - Last tip, exercise with your 🐕. You'll burn more calories 😂.
