What a beautiful morning at Firestone Metro Park. I ended up meeting and walking the trail with a man named Bill who was carrying around a grocery bag of unsalted peanuts and to feed the birds. It was crazy how much he knew about the different types of birds and how they were going to react to him. Through conversation, he mentioned his lack of income, but his daily visits to Firestone give him a lot of joy in life. He doesn't have much family around and lives by himself, but he walks the trail every day and makes sure to bring some peanuts for the birds. I went there this morning to get a few more photos for my February Outdoor Gems feature in the Devil Strip magazine, but I left with a lot more appreciation for what our local parks provide to all different types of people in the community. I am really thankful for that interaction this morning.
