Morning Paddle, Sulphide Lake
24x48", oil on canvas • SOLD @assiniboiaart
Super excited to find out that Assiniboia Gallery sold this one the other day 🙆! It's a scene from a painting and canoe trip I went on in 2013. I have never been so far from civilization! The reality of that fact hit Day One on the second of two portages while making our way to home-base. A storm that was behind us shifted and came up fast. The wind whipped from all directions and we were completely at the mercy of Mother Nature. Huge trees came down all around us and a branch hit one of the guides on the arm. I saw lightning hit a tree about twenty feet in front of me. It was intense, but the gale came and went fast and, thankfully, after that the weather cooperated.
Aside from the chaos of the storm, I have never been anywhere so extraordinarily peaceful. We paddled past sights that took my breath away over and over again. I still get weepy just from the memories. It was an experience of a lifetime.
I just checked and the website is not updated for this year, but there is info from previous years. If you are curious, go to www.canoeski.com and look under Canoe Trips-> Northern Waterways-> Canoeing & Painting in the Wild.
Oh, and I had never canoed before 😮. Turns out you don't row a canoe, you paddle it 😀! You will be corrected until you get it right 😂! @ericasaskmama @randilalonde
