Ugh, the seemingly endless to do list, emails, phone calls, mind chatter...it’s enough to drive us mad if we let it. Let’s not!
Let’s practice quick mindfulness exercises throughout the day to avoid feeling overwhelmed or frustrated.
Below we’ve listed a few that we can fit them in no matter how busy our day is.
They might seem a little like wasted time in the beginning, but we guarantee if you stick with it and make this a practice, you’ll soon learn how to reset, refocus, and distract from anything that messes with your flow:
1. Take a few deep breaths. Try this for 1-2 minutes. Breath in through your nose and out through your mouth (smell the roses and blow out the candles). 🌹 🎂 With each inhale, imagine bringing calm within. Imagine your heart beating slower and oxygen feeding your cells. With each exhale, imagine releasing distracting thoughts from your body. We know it sounds simple, but this breathing exercise takes practice. Mastering this simple #mindfulnessexercise
is quite powerful.
2. Get up from wherever you are and walk into another room, or even better, walk outside. Now that you’re there, look around, notice the colours and sounds. What do you see? What do you hear? Really listen and observe. Allow yourself to be where you are and nowhere else. Taking a few moments to be fully #presentinthenow
can greatly improve your mental health.
3. Give thanks. Taking a few minutes to write or say some of the things that we are grateful for can remind us how great life is. It can also remind us that we have so much to be happy about. Start with thinking about 5-10 different things. They can be as simple as being thankful for your morning tea or coffee, or the clean, hot water that allowed you to shower this morning. This doesn’t have to be a complicated exercise, just spit out what comes to your mind. 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏
