✨SHOUT-TF-OUT!!!✨ To my incredible and supportive coach @joannabikini_athlete from @bodybyjoteam . . 6 weeks ago I made the leap from self-Coaching to joining her team of lovely athletes and from DAY ONE Joanna has shown unwavering support and a level of athlete-level coaching that I never thought possible.... Despite being ridiculously affordable!!! My posing has levelled up, my competition diet has been overhauled, and she has been by my side through THICK AND THIN after feeling hopeless with injury post-British Finals.... . . She even supported my crazy decision to do The World Championships once I felt my knees could handle a swift 4 week prep for it and SOMEHOW we built muscle AND got stage ready (don’t listen to the hype, you don’t have to get dirty with your bulking, lean gains really are a thang 💪🏼👈🏼🙌🏼).... . . During peak week and show day I had message after message of love, support and advice - and the same goes for post-comp. This woman seriously CARES - and in the competitive industry we are in a vulnerable mental place both during prep and post comp, so this is a trait I value highly. . . Although I am a fitness coach myself (not bodybuilding) I finally feel I can let go completely when it comes to my own diet and training - anyone who knows me will know how I pretty much do EVERYTHING myself and struggle to ask for help - Joanna takes the reins completely and it’s a HUGE load off my busy everyday life as a coach and a mummy.....even my fitness business has moved forwards now I have the mental energy to put into it..... anyway, I ALWAYS believe in saying Thankyou, and for giving credit where it is due....so there ya go....RAVE OVER 😊 🙌🏼✨🙌🏼✨🙌🏼

What if I told you, you didn't need to diet to lose weight? If it you could still eat chocolate, drink beer or even eat pizza? Well you can if you have a calorie deficit..What that means is if you burn more than you consume you will lose the weight. Eating pizza every night though might take longer, than if you didn't. At the end of the day, we are all humans so we will want to go out an treat ourselves. One of my clients even managed to lose weight whilst still drinking beer every other night. In the first session we sat down and went through different options and he told me he likes A pint of been to relax with. We sat down and went through how many calories a day he was allowed we still factored the pint of beer he wanted every other night. If you feel you want to lose weight. whilst not giving up your favourite food give me a shout.

Want a tactic to deploy during Christmas? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is it! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You are likely to go over on your daily calorie limits during the festive period ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is when you must use calorie banking ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For a week prior to Christmas Day, look to decrease your daily calorie intake by 100-200 calories ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This gives you an extra 700-1400 calories to use at Christmas ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This tactic is useful for other events that you know are coming up ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ No need to cut out the mince pies & quality street come Christmas Day
. THE BEST DIET ISN’T A DIET, IT’S A PLAN . The best “diet” is the one that’s best FOR YOU . It’s not the one that restricts the most food . It’s not the one that gets you the most results possible in the least amount of time, then what now? . How many times have you heard someone say “I put all the weight straight back on when I finished the diet”? . The best diet is the PLAN that actually educates you about food (not pointing any fingers, *cough* Weight Watchers *cough*) . It should promote accountability and mindfulness . It should build lifelong habits so you never “have to go on a diet” ever again . If you hate the foods included in your plan, are you really going to stick to it? . Why would you try and eat plain chicken breast, plain rice, 4.5 asparagus spears and 7.75 almonds for weeks on end if you can’t stand it (if you can actually adhere to it that is) . Knowledge is power, so find out how many calories Re in those foods and substitute them for ones you prefer . The picture on this post is of my dinner. It’s what I would call a BALANCED meal . I have my favourite protein source (HECK Chicken Sausages, if you aren’t aware of these...aware yourself...now) . My favourite carb source: sweet potatoes . Olives for “good fats”, yes I DO like olives (if you’re a non-believer try the lemon and herb variety, if you’re still not into them you never will be!) . Some 🥦, for health and stuff... . aaannnddd the one and only BBQ sauce. YES condiments are allowed, eating plain food does not make you hardcore, it makes you a gimp (I should now, I used to shun them when “dieting” 🤦🏻‍♂️) . Last but not least, a bit of 🍫 for dessert. It contained 137 calories (very easy to factor in to your daily calorie target) and this little “treat” really could be the difference in you sticking to the plan . TIP: make extra and take it to work the following day instead of buying crap out of the vending machines like everyone else .
Yesterday I was fortunate enough to go to Pure Gym Bury and chat with a great group of PTs. Their gym environment is very different to my own but it was great to brainstorm a few ideas to hopefully give them a few ideas to help with their PT careers. I've really enjoyed the chance to sit with groups of PTs in these sessions and no one has fallen asleep yet so all good. Thanks to @laurensophie_travelfitness for the invite.

Getting lean | Things to realise . Working towards a fitness photo shoot is in my eyes a great goal for many. . It gives you a real tangible target for your fat loss goals and is very rewarding. . Although there are a few things to realise when you start a diet aiming to get very lean. . 1. You will be very hungry at times (seems obvious but just realise that). 2. Your sleep will start to suck and the quality won’t be great. 3. You will spend more money on your food shop. 4. Halo top and breyers are literally a life saver. 5. Your friends and family will tell you to not lose anymore weight. 6. Your face will get thin and you won’t like it. 7. You will need an ipad or very good podcast to get through cardio. 8. You will look forward to carb up days like Christmas. 9. It will be hard work. 10. IT WILL BE WORTH IT AND YOU WILL LOOK AWESOME :). . None of the above should put you off as trust me the journey is enjoyable all be it tough at times and you will be very proud when you achieve your goal. . For me two of the enjoyable things I get from prep is I know other people couldn’t do it and at the end I will be in the best shape of my life. . What's that you can't have a fry up and stay lean or lose weight? Maybe you can? Maybe your just not doing it right? BB ONLY LOWER BODY SESS A workout with a bit of weight behind it, which doesn’t seem to be as popular when I post these kinds of workouts, but this is more my training style and how I’ve gotten the results I have to date 💪🏼 ::::::: 5 x 6-8 120 sec rest between exercises & sets A1) BB Heels Elevated Quad Squat ❣️ Elevating the heels is great for targeting your quads more and also helps people who have issue getting depth in their squats due to issues with ankle mobility A2) BB Good Morning ❣️ tempo should be slow on the eccentric (bending over part in this exercise) with a small pause once bent over to hit those hammies 4 x 8-10 75 sec rest between exercises & sets B1) BB Deadlift with 2 second pause at knee on eccentric B2) BB Front Loaded Front Foot Elevated Split Squat 3 x 12-15 60 sec rest C1) BB Romanian Deadlift ::::: Powered by @ehplabs always pre, infra & post workout 💪🏼 if you guys buy their supps (or apparel) make sure you use my code SOPH10 for a discount. Happy hump day Who’s “killing it” this week? I have to confess I’m struggling with the early morning thing.. still on plan and up, meditating and working out every day but boy ... is it hard in the dark mornings! I’ve been chatting to quite a few people this week about how they feel super low this time of year as days are darker and we have less sunshine. A quick fix for that is exercise it can really boost those happy endorphins, even if you just grab 5 or 10 minutes worth. I do think so many of us see exercise as some form of torture 😱 or a means to lose weight and we forget the bigger picture! That being mental health & physical health benefits. You really cannot put a price on your health. So invest in it. THE BARBELL HIPTHRUST 💪🏼🍑 . One of our favourites for the booty!!!😍 . Just a few lil tips for you that can make a difference in your technique and your results!!!👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 . - Make sure the box isn’t too high that your resting your shoulders on!!! When it’s too high it makes it much harder to get a full range of movement hip thrust and the quads are more likely to take a lot of the load also! . - To stop your lower back getting a hammering, tuck the pelvis under and squeeze the glutes on the thrust (contraction) part of the move. Also press into your heels. . - Tuck your chin down (near to your chest) and this will also help stop your back arching and allow you better technique with the move. . Try it...let us know how you get on!!! . Goals for 2019 - get strong enough to throw the next person who tells me that muscles aren’t feminine over a fence with one swift effort 💪🏻 . Dramatic perhaps, but seriously I’m over chasing the same old goals that ultimately all come back to what I look like. I like lifting heavy stuff above my head, if that gives me “bulky” shoulders then so be it, it makes me feel powerful in mind and body, and this is how every single damn woman on this planet should feel no matter their physical appearance. Tougher than I thought! - Every 3 minutes (E3MOM) x5. - •500m row •5 pull ups* •15 squats - *first round I did 10 pull ups but only just made the 3 minute cutoff, so reduced to 5. Please note this did not make it easier but gave me a little more breathing space! - As always this is completely scalable: lower the distance on the rower, replace pull ups with an overhead press, less squats, etc. - 📹 1st and last set 🤯 - Save/bookmark and get it done! PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT - Everybody wants everything now for instant gradification. Did you know that studies were done on great musical composers to find out on average how long it takes before a composer can get really good before they would be ready to compose their first masterpiece. . To Macro or meal plan? When designing nutrition plans for clients to get the very best results possible. Is it best to give a client a macro split to try to hit or to give them a meal plan to adhere to and take the thinking out of the process for them? Here are some of the pros and cons for both Macro split Pros ➡️ The client learns about the nutrients, calories, proteins, carbs and fats held within different foods. ➡️ Client can then utilise these skills going forward forever. ➡️ Allows for more diversity within the diet Cons ➡️ Can increase decision fatigue and leave the client with a higher chance of not adhering to a calorie target. ➡️ The likelihood of trying to include lower quality foods could increase. ➡️ Vital nutrients maybe lacking within the diet due to this.———————————————————————— Meal plan Pros ➡️ Reduces decision fatigue and allows the client to just execute and nail other important stuff. Ie steps training and cardio. ➡️ More than likely if you’re meal plan is adequate 🙋🏾‍♂️ all the bases will be covered. Ie nutrient density, satiety, protein target taken care of etc. ➡️ Minimal temptation to include rubbish foods as your plan is simple and laid out for you. ➡️ You’re day will run smoother and it will be easier to meal prep! Cons ➡️ client doesn’t get as much of a education about nutrition. ➡️ Can be monotonous for some clients. ➡️ If the meal plan isn’t varied enough you could be lacking in certain areas. ————————————————————————- There really isn’t a wrong or right answer here. I feel that if you are after a dramatic transformation and you have a time frame having your coach/ pt/ nutritionist create a meal plan which allows you to execute is optimal. If you have a little more time or you have finished a dieting phase and you want a little more onus then the macro target is a viable option. With the caveat that you still want to try to include mainly high quality foods. The posterior muscles should always play a big part in any training program. - - Sitting at a desk can take a large toll on your back and posture. So these protein pots are a great thing to make before you go to bed, ready for a tomorrow when you need a snack at work or at home. To make them you'll need 90g pack Indian spiced lentils 160g cherry tomatoes, quartered 150g cooked, skinless chicken breast, chopped handful fresh coriander, chopped 4 tbsp tzatziki How to make them ... Tear the corner from the lentil pack and microwave on High for 1 min. Leave to cool then tip into 2 large packed lunch pots. Top with the cherry tomatoes and chicken, add the fresh coriander then spoon on the tzatziki. Seal until ready to eat
Another day to smash these weights. Back day with a few variations to keep my body guessing. Lifting heavy is good however if you do not monitor your progress and make things harder weekly, there's no point to training as you will never be at your best because your body adapts so quickly. Work hard play hard but most of all build on what you already know/achieve.
