Even though I was off yesterday and today, these past two days were: Work, work, work, work, work...or...volunteer, eer, eer, eer, eer???
I gave a presentation yesterday, and then a different one today. Last week, a friend of mine asked me if I could come to her school and tell her students about my country. Since I get that request a lot, especially when I need to visit elementary schools, I asked her my usual follow up question, “Which country?”, expecting for her to say “America”. Surprisingly, for the first time, the response was “Belarus.” Her students were doing a project about fairytales around the world, so she wanted them to hear a bit about Belarus and some of its tales. Luckily, because we had school on Saturday, to make up for it, my school was not in session today, so I was able to do the presentation. Interesting how all of that worked out 🤔. It was SO much fun to have the students practice some Belarusian and Russian phrases (they can REALLY roll their “R”s 😮. I was really imprrressed 😂), and tell them about a few stories from my childhood which I almost forgot after so many years. I also gave some PR to my favorite Belarusian restaurant in Tokyo since the food really does taste like my grandmother’s cooking ✌🏽😂. I never would have imagined in a billion years that, one day, I’d be repping my home country in Japan, especially since it’s been so long since I lived there and I guess I never saw myself as the “ideal” candidate to represent the country. But, it felt pretty cool to hear 4 different languages throughout the 1 hour of my presentation. I really enjoyed it, felt official (definitely putting myself as an “Invited Speaker/Presenter” on my resume 😂), and I felt proud 😊. #esl #eslteacher #teacher #teach #belarus #culture #japan #instateacher #presenter #presentation #беларусь #культура #еда #япония #日本 #東京 #ベラルーシ #ベラルーシ語 #ロシア語 #英語 #беларускаямова #tokyo #teachersofinstagram #teacherlife #teachersofig #represent #iteach #work #onthegrind #professionaldevelopment
