in America, the number of people who looked like me in the media were few and far between. The relationship between the lack of representation for #AsianAmericans
in popular culture and the development of one’s sense of identity while growing up is an unfortunate reality that I know many Asian Americans can relate to - which is why 2PM - specifically its former leader, @jparkitrighthere
- continues to be such an inspiration to me. #JayPark
was the first Asian American I could ever relate to and although he’s been a multi-platinum legend in the K-Pop scene overseas, it’s so exciting to see him finally going mainstream in the American market. He’s been vocal about using his ground-breaking status as the first Asian American signed to Jay-Z’s label @rocnation
to put on for the culture and I hope that he (along with @bts.bighitofficial
, and other Asian acts in the arts) can really make compelling cases for American industries to invest in the entertainment careers of Asian Americans, so that future generations can have a plethora of icons to look up to while growing up. So shoutout to the hyung for making boss moves and dropping these new bangers for the weekend - the album is 🔥🔥🔥. 축하해!!!
