this morning I did a lil jog & had a vision about hands up (that could have started with Macklemore..) & hands out & hands in.
Praise. Give. Receive. ▫️ A constant cycle. ▫️ Praising God for his goodness, sovereignty, grace & love... even (especially) on days that I don’t notice Him providing those in this crazy world. Praise because-of and praise despite and praise in the what-if’s and what-nexts and why-thoughs. Praise in the middle-of. Praise for the promise of him completing the good work he begins in us; praise for the freedom we’re invited to live in. Praise that he is FOR us and with us and ahead of us, drawing us forward with the whisper of his spirit. ▫️ Hands out. Give. Gratitude for who God is births a desire for hands and arms and feet and lives out ready to give and hold and pour into. The kids, spouse, friends, neighbors, community, and those on the margins. Hands out is trusting that God is faithful and we don’t need to hustle or be too self-focused to fulfill our potential/purposes/plans. Continually trying to do better at this hands out thing, especially on days when the daily life of parenting and working - the daily life of just us - feels like enough. Hands out is more fulfilling and joy-inducing and peace-infusing that anything, though. I just need the reminder. Hands out is the physical way of heart out. ▫️ Hands in. An important one not to be missed. Receiving grace. Help. Forgiveness when we fall short. The blessing of friendship and health and laughter. We don’t need to do anything alone. Receiving it all - fully and unapologetically - might be the opposite of martyrdom and the secret to then praising & giving wholeheartedly. Don’t skim on the receiving. The rest. The reading. The relationships. The time you need. The beauty, the joy. Take it in. The receiving is the seeing of and filling up on the goodness. ✨
I always say gratitude, joy, repeat. I think this praise, give, receive could be a new mantra that echos that. 💓
Also, thanks YMCA for this cute family pic complete with mustard and grass stains. We wouldn’t have it any other way. ▫️
