The planning has started. Lots of work to do over the next 3 months to prepare the beds, plant and grow all the seedlings indoor, build another structure to sustain the tomatoes and eggplants, and prepare the structure for the beans. It’s going to be another interesting season!
Can’t wait to produce much more salad mix this year to share with you guys. This trial was such an amazing success and I wouldn’t have had the push without @thebarkfl
stressing their want for good, local salad mix. Hoping to be sending lots of this their way soon!
The carrots turned out so great this season and it wouldn’t have been possible without the crafstmanship of @mouthsnake
who welded a broadfork for us to be able to aerate the beds 10” deep.
So grateful for an amazing first year at @harvesttoheartfarm
, bring it on 2019!
Harvested the last of the fall greens mix today with the first of our winter carrots.. they are SO sweet!!!
Is it ever too early to start gardening 🤔
I underestimated how big my #doubledazzler
sunflowers from @jardindefleur.seeds
were going to grow 😂🌻 As you can see its a race with the corn 🌽 to see who can grow the tallest 😜 Can’t wait to see them in flower ❤️
Garden carnage 😕 I was so disappointed to come home and find this 😣 If you've been following my page for a little while, you might remember a photo I posted of some strange melons that popped up in my garden. They turned out to be rockmelons. Big, healthy, amazing looking rockmelons! .
I was so excited to see them we we arrived home. ..and then I picked up the first one. Ahhhh...something had eaten the bottom out of it😕 In fact something had eaten the bottom out of all 6 of them. Gutted. I cut a piece out of the top, it was a lovely orange and so sweet, although a bit dry. Oh well. Hopefully some more will pop up some time, I'll keep a close eye on them next time!
My dragonfruit was my other disappointment. When we left, it was covered in flower buds. Dragonfruit flowers are beautiful and big, but they only flower for 1 night. When we came home, all of the flowers had obviously blossomed, but not been fertilized? They had all died and dropped off. I need to find out what fertilizes dragonfruit, and how to attract whatever it is to my garden because the plant has already got new flower buds all over it. I'm ready for round 2 ! .

My nine-not-ten year challenge: lawn and some very young perennials to a young but thriving vegetable and perennial garden. And to think I used to plant my annuals in two rows of three, just like how they come in the packs 😂
Our house, in the middle of our street 🎶
My baby girl was up vomiting all night. I suspect foodborne illness from strawberries we bought at the local grocery. 😞 Just another reason to promote homegrown. I also recently read that the government shutdown brings inconsistent FDA food inspections. 🤔 😒 Thankfully my daughter was able to keep a popsicle down and now we are trying one of her favorite snacks—microgreens. The purple stems are the Early Wonder beet seeds she was sowing in my last post. Feels good to get some nutrition into her little system. Especially nutrition that I know is safe from food pathogens.
I wanted to show you guys how massive and healthy the roots of these baby cabbages are! 😍🌱

I just love this image, provided by http://organiccotton.org showing the field to fiber process! This fantastic company provides us with gorgeous organic cottons that are PVC, plasticizers and heavy metal free! #cotton #ecofabric
The seed potatoes are chitting away nicely! These two varieties (Rocket & Casablanca) are both first early so will hopefully be going in at the allotment around March/April depending on the weather, to be harvested around June/July. In the meantime these egg boxes are the perfect place for them to develop their shoots 🥔🥔🥔
We take great pride in feeding our #chickens

last weeks arrangement in different light ✨🐑 I love the little “purses” on the shepherds purse. they look like tiny little hearts 💕
from my parents backyard 🌱
Hope you’re all staying safe and dry in this crazy wet weather.
We’re heading to our home in Vegas for more rain and adult time ✌🏽
What are you doing?
Aloe vera gone mad! This was before I repotted it into the new planter. It was getting kinda crowded. 🌵😳
Our birds deserve to grow flowers on their porches too, don’t you think? 🐦🏡
A nice Japanese hot pot tonight for dinner, with an amazing sesame sauce we received from our friend in Kyoto. And after dinner the latest seed catalog to read, which came in the mail today, together with some beans and flower seeds I ordered this week.
I always always get asked where I’m from and don’t really share specifically, but here ya go. Throwing it back to my first tomato season two years ago. 🍅
We’re getting ready to sow our spring tomato seeds indoors and going pretty basic this year. It’s easy to go crazy with all the awesome varieties available, but we’re scaling way back this year. Our tomatoes go nuts and we keep the food bank busy in the spring 😊

Check out my favorite Compost Starter Kit by Good Ideas, Inc. I have been using this model since 2012 and absolutely love how easy it makes backyard composting for everyone regardless of skill level. This is a perfect way to get acquainted with the entire process of composting without any of the hassle.
