Birdsville Races 2017
Last weekend was windy as hell. With a crosswind of 12 knots and gusts of up to 17 knots I knew I was in for a tough lesson. My instructor tolled me that this would be a good opportunity to practise on my crosswind landings....I looked at her nervously.
I nailed my takeoffs during the circuits. I also found the crosswind, downwind and base legs not too demanding; remembering to keep the plane flying in balance whilst performing all the aircraft and radio checks enroute.
Then it came to the turn onto final approach from base. I managed to crab the aircraft nicely as it descended towards the runway. Along the descent , the occasional gust of wind sent me off track but I was quick to response with reasonable correction.
After the fourth landing (and a few heavy touchdowns) I felt that I was getting little bit more comfortable with the handling of the aircraft in crosswinds. Whether this translated into smoother touch downs is another story however 😂🤷🏾♂️
You can't help but feel a little frustrated when all you want is a smooth landing! But then again I have to remind myself that this was my first lesson in crosswind conditions .
Ohh well, it was fun and the and learning goes on..

Postales desde el cielo que dejaron mi paso por el sur, hermosos lugares pero sobre todo mucho aprendizaje.
