, to no avail. But yeah she put like 20lbs on her push jerk...so that works!
Philosophy: don’t like to spend too much time talking about the theoretical details of how to lift when actually working with an athlete, but rather, like here, try to just enforce complexes that “learn em” good. So for example with Jenessa, she, like a lot of athletes accustomed to ordinary gym work, is not super used to the idea of, shall we say, “picking 💩up”—ALL the way up, to arms length overhead, this by use of all of the musculature of the body, not just by use of little upper body ones (“if the barbell didn’t end up over your head, you didn’t really lift it, did you?”—some opinionated old guy). So here I try to almost subconsciously get her used to the idea that the barbell has to be picked up, even to do ‘gym rat’ things like squat (imagine a universe with no squat racks but squatting is just as useful in that universe as in this one. #carlsagan
What would you do?) In this way I’d like her to develop the sensibility that her body is one big orchestra of parts that function together for a whole that very much exceeds the sum of its parts...and that that bod is made for “picking 💩up”—ALL THE WAY UP!!
