It’s inspiring and always fascinating to see other photographers move through their own projects, especially so when they also are organized around specific places. Here’s Cody Williams (@cody.wms

- documenting all the Rock City barns left in the country. ・・・
Another capstone post after finishing editing of all my images. These are now edited and posted on Flickr (link in bio), and I’ll be posting them here, then return to backfill all the barns I’ve shot but haven’t been able to post here. .....
After 7 years and four months, I've shot all the Rock City barns that are known to exist (minus one*). Record keeping was always pretty bad, so I'm sure there are others out there lost to time, but I'm pretty proud of (almost*) finishing out this project. I spent a ton of time staring at Google Earth over the winter, with lows and highs as I continued to scroll, and in the end was able to rediscover a ton of barns.
I found so many and had some pointed out in fun, far-flung locations that made me rethink my commitment of getting all the barns in 2019. I was able to grab a bunch this winter that I feared would be overgrown in any other season. But from there I wasn't really sure how to get the rest, since they spanned from St. Louis to Cincinnati, OH and Mobile, AL to Columbia, SC. I ended up just going for it about a month ago and drove that crazy route I posted. Between the two trips, that put me at 4,141 miles driven this year getting these barns.
I've had quite a few series and themes that run though my photography, but few have really meant something in the same way that these barns do to me. It's hard to put simply, but these barns really serve as a totem for what I still call "back home" and my childhood in Tennessee. All of those feelings are more complicated than just some advertising barns, but these do serve as a simple thing that reminds me of something much deeper and meaningful to me. *I'd have seen them all if I wasn't an idiot and marked that last one remaining as shot in some spreadsheet confusion.
