Greensmart Pots are one of Sally (our newest staff member)'s favourite things here at Urban Revolution 💚(although she tells us it's very hard to choose😜). They are a self-watering, "wicking bed" design, allowing us to grow our precious plants closer together than usual and giving them constant and stable moisture levels. While it is possible to make a similar pot from scavenged materials, the Greensmart pots are such a clever design - overflow holes prevent the roots from becoming waterlogged, and these holes and the inflow spout are designed so as to prevent mosquitos from breeding in the water reservoir. Sally says these pots are perfect for her because she can put them close to the walls of her weatherboard house without worrying about excess water damage to the stumps. They are perfect for balconies too, where excess water might also be a problem. They can be installed on a custom-fitted metal stand for those of us who prefer not to bend down too low, AND, with a few kind words to the lovely Bruno (who makes all our gorgeous bespoke shop fittings) a wheel system can be attached to the base of the stand to make your Greensmart pot completely mobile. There are a few simple but important tricks to making these pots work brilliantly, so please come and chat to us in store for all the expert advice 🌱💚
Hawaiian inspired dinner last night 🌸🍍🌈🏝 Sweet and sour vermicelli noodle salad, grilled chicken and sweet potato fries 🍟 Nature can be very generous if you let it. Grilled pineapple, pineapple juice, serving bowl, compost aaand then grow a new plant from the green top 🌱#edibleflowers #pineapplebowl #zerowaste
Guava Flowers in December: My Hawaiian yellow guava has been continuing to flower throughout the fall and now into the beginning of winter!!
This is happening for several reasons. First, I am growing this tree in a container which allows me to find the perfect microclimate throughout the season. Next, the ingredients that I use in the container are consistently feeding the tree. Some of the most important ingredients I use are biochar, composted mulch, lava rock, rock dust and different sized wood chips mixed into the soil mix itself. Yes...I mix wood chips in with the soil mix.
Another reason this tree is continually flowering is because I don’t use man made fertilizer. I feed the tree with bat guano, worm castings, compost and a variety brew of worm/compost tea that is brewed with fish and seaweed extract.
The last critical tip I will give for growing fruit trees in containers is to only use 10-20% compost in the original mix. Adding compost as a regular fertilizer on top will make your tree happy!!! I hope everyone has an awesome day today :) —

The bridal veiled stinkhorn 🍄 ⠀
We have never eaten this mushroom here, but supposedly it is commonly sold throughout Asian markets and is rich in protein, carbohydrates, and fibers. It is said to also contain various bioactive compounds, and has antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. ⠀
Has anyone ever eaten this mushroom?? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Pasture raised chooks have the tastiest eggs. Our girls (& guys) are out free ranging daily scratching around in the dirt for bugs, eating grasses & herbaceous plants they find along with scraps & their feed.
Our eggs are sweet & vibrant in colour. They come in all shapes, sizes & colours. They are as nature intended!
I still suck at making dippy eggs, but the eggs are tasty enough that the kids forgive me 😄
A crisp, clear morning moving woodchip to mulch a bed. What better steaming hot beverage to warm up with than a home-made mulled wine? None. #festiveseason #mulledwine
This is why we do what we do. It’s so easy to go to a beach and pick up a huge bag of trash... that’s a problem! Do the Earth a favor and always bring a bag with you wherever you go, just in case you see littered trash (which is very likely). Do your part ♻️
Ky’s pretty stoked about her homegrown apricots. And so are we! Yay!! 🍑
Can you spot the treasure?! 👀 Usually the strawberries are snaffled long before I get a look in 🐛🐌 but today I spotted a few and took my chances!🍓 They might not look as fat as the ones in the shops but the taste is mighty!👌 Surely nothing tastes better than a homegrown strawberry...except perhaps a homegrown carrot? 🌱 Zero plastic, zero food miles, zero pesticides 👊
First cacao produced on our lot here in La Ecovilla!! It’s amazing how popular chocolate is all around the world yet how few people actually know where it comes from. The pulp around the seed is so delicious! I will put these seeds to ferment for 4 days and then I will wash them and dry them in the sun. Then I will lightly toast them and add them to my morning smoothies! Yum. #cacao #permaculture #permacultura #permaculturelife #chocolate #costarica
Smooth, shiny, Tadelakt 👌🙌✨🌟 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We are putting the final touches on this beautiful shower. This lime plaster is a traditional Moroccan plaster known as Tadelakt. Once burnished with a hard stone and sealed with olive oil soap a natural water proof surface is created. This polished plaster is great for bathrooms and showers.
We are looking forward to practicing and teaching more about Tadelakt and other polished plasters in our upcoming natural building course with @bonitonito.
In the course there will also be an introduction on earth wall building techniques. To learn more about this awesome hands on natural building course check out our website, link in bio.
