“Eating more frequently will stoke your metabolism bro” - a claim made by some insta gurus and something I used to believe as well. ➖ When you eat food, a certain number of calories will be burned just digesting that food. This is called the thermic effect of food (TEF). So it’s not untrue that eating stimulates the metabolism.. BUT the amount burned is proportional to the amount you eat (and also the types of foods you eat). ➖ So as shown here; if you have 2 meals that consist of 500 cals each, and let’s say the food composition is the same resulting in the TEF being roughly 20%. This means 100 calories would be burned per meal, and 200 calories total. ➖ Now if you had both those meals in one go, the total number of calories would be the same so the TEF would be 20% of 1000. So it’d be 200 cals burned during the digestion process. ➖ Now you see why (as per usual 😜) its the total number of calories that matter. Meal frequency has no influence on fat loss if calories are matched. ➖ If you swipe along there’re just a couple studies that looked at exactly this and found no significant difference. The first picture was actually taken last year, I had already competed previously but, went through a rough time before this picture. There are some things that mark your life forever really, as I probably said before emotionally I was -0 physically aswell as we can see. The next picture was this year after competing and both of us wining 1st places in our last competition of the year. The message I want to bring across here is that we all individually have hard times and moments where we feel like it’s all lost, moments where we ask ourselves why us ? Why did this happen to me ? And we feel like it’s our fault. We reflect problems on our selfs, but if you have the courage to come out of the dark shell, we can make things happen, we have to learn to continue our lives and lift up our heads to progress our selfs. It’s not over and it’s not a time to give up, 5 years ago I would never even think I would be able to transform my body, but here I am now, able to make the best choices for my health and my body. don’t give up If you want to look good, if you want to do something for yourself, give yourself the first step of courage and ! What I have learnt from last year is you can change your look massively if you know how to hit the right angles while posing. Not always the best bodies win-you need to know how to present that physique. Today we worked on her muscle and brain connection and muscle activition. It is a quite difficult exercise to engage only lateral fibres of shoulders. But she managed this technique pretty well and got the right movements and muscle engagement by the end of last set. Isometric & slow controlled Eccentric pull-ups When training pull-ups I sometimes work in isometric holds (static contraction) at the top of the movement. A pull-up follows what’s known as a descending strength curve. This means that the amount of force the pull-up muscles are able to generate is lowest at the top of the movement...Anyone who’s ever tried a pull-up will know that the hardest part is pulling in toward the top! By using an isometric hold at the top of a pull-up, I’m training my muscles to maintain force generation, and importantly, coordination and control, at the weakest point of the movement for a prolonged period of time. The slow eccentric actions (slow lengthening of muscle fibres whilst under tension) are also a really useful tool for training motor-patterns, i.e a template of co-ordinated muscular actions, amongst other things. In climbing, isometrics and controlled eccentric actions are very common. Supplementary training in this way can have a certain carry over and can help, for example, when trying to stick holds in a static type of way. 💥Pro Tip: MAKE Time for YOU to stay motivated. 💥 . What happened to my motivation, lately? This question has been playing in my head like a broken record for the past few weeks. . I am pretty good about not missing my workouts for more than a day or two. I can say it has become routine for me (not without effort.) It helps with my anxiety, my patience and it just makes me feel better all around. So, OK so I have that going for me. . But now that the summer is done I’m having a hard time curbing my snacking, prepping meals and getting back into a healthier way of eating. And that was fine during the summer because I was having a lot of fun and I don’t usually do that. But here I am having a hard time getting back on track and I’m like what is going on with me. . And then I had a weekend away with my girlfriends. Just us. No kids. (First time in about 6 years!) We laughed, relaxed and had a great time. And I came back on Sunday and I was ready to go. Ready to meal plan, ready to eat better ready to feel more comfortable in my jeans. . And I was like-where did that come from? And then it hit me like a ton of bricks. Bam! I needed self-care. I needed to do something just for me. I need to take care of my soul. I need to be Rachel. I think was a little burnt out from the summer. Does that make sense? . A quick recharge with my besties. Not worrying about my babies because their dad is fantastic. I came home with a whole new outlook (and piled up laundry.🤷‍♀️ 😂) I don’t feel so daunted. I’m ready to go. Ready for my jeans to fit. So business is not always easy and sometimes you feel like banging your head on a brick wall. I had such a day yesterday. However, I now have the resilience to pick myself up, know that tomorrow is another day and try again. I find that meditation helps to pick me up but also knowing that the mind needs to be trained to build resilience helps. Life isn’t always easy so make sure you have support. I recommend if you own a business to form a good network; coaches, mentors and like minded business friends who can help and guide you. Those who have experienced what you have gone through are a great resource. It’s the same even if you don’t have a business.
