My most recent version of #backpacking 😂 While these days are mainly over (as little man at 19 months is already capable & adamant about hiking at least 1-2 miles on his own), they sure produced a great work-out while they lasted—he & the pack together weighed 30ish pounds and we logged between 150-200 miles just from hiking this year. There have been MANY factors in helping my recovery... @mr_chris79 has been INSTRUMENTAL, in making me #believe I am #worthy of a MUCH #happier life. My #daughters have been such a constant #support . They’re everything ❤️ Finding a #psychologist who genuinely seems to care about my #wellbeing , and who makes me feel supported, and never judged, has been life changing. My #meds have been changed a couple of times throughout the year, in consultation with my very professional #GP . And an increase in my #physicalactivity has definitely contributed to improved mood, which has allowed for me to see potential for great happiness in my future 🥰 I’m so #reflective today. And I guess this is a #gratitudepost 😂😂 so I guess I should say I’m #blessed 🤭 Because truly, I AM!!

I mentioned a few posts ago how obesity leads to a chronic inflammatory state. Here is an outstanding post on this topic. . #Repost @dr.eddiejo (@get_repost ) ・・・ It is no question that obesity is associated with a multitude of comorbidities or diseases. Accordingly, it is evident that the state of obesity is conducive to a systemic/whole-body environment that is unfavorable for the general "health" of various cells and thereby organ tissues. In a 2016 paper, I discussed the mechanisms underpinning the development of obesity-related comorbidities with large emphasis on chronic low-grade systemic inflammation being the key interlinking mediator. It is evident that this state of chronic low-grade inflammation (or meta-inflammation) with obesity originates from the dysfunction of two tissues, adipose and the gut. First, obesity provokes changes in accumulated adipose tissue that result in altered fat cell metabolism and dysfunction as well as increased infiltration of immune cells. Altogether, this promotes inflammation of adipose tissue resulting in increased release of a variety of small proteins called adipokines, much of which are pro-inflammatory mediators. Secondly, gut tissue also undergoes changes with obesity, such as gut inflammation, altered gut microbiota, and increased intestinal wall permeability causing continuous endotoxin (LPS) leakage into circulation. Thus, obesity is linked to chronic low-grade endotoxemia. Collectively, these effects of obesity on adipose and gut tissues create a continuous state of low-grade inflammation within the whole body. In turn, other tissues are susceptible to aberrant inflammation and dysfunction. Tissues of the heart, liver, and blood vessels are well known to be affected by this inflammatory environment, and there is recent evidence that converge to show that the brain also undergoes substantial changes that are conducive to the development of neuropsychiatric symptoms and diseases. Bottom line is that obesity is an unsuspecting inflammatory disease and if left unresolved will drastically increase the risk for disease. #cpphprl

Not only will this help with performance but will also aid in activities you do on a daily basis. Make sure you're using proper form for every movement. It is much easier to go out and participate in activities when feeling great. However, when feeling not so great, it’s easier and oddly comfortable to stay home on the couch and ruminate or wallow. Getting dressed and participating in an activity normally enjoyed almost seems impossible and requires much more strength. But that is when activities have the most benefit and can boost the mood. Next time you’re feeling crummy - challenge yourself to boost your mood - see if you can gain the strength to go out and participate in an activity that usually brings joy and take note how you feel before and after. After yesterday’s 13 mile run my legs were knackered but it’s weird just how quickly I bounced back after it. The last time I ran 13 miles was the Sheffield half marathon and I literally couldn’t walk for a week 🤣 the power of the mind and conditioning of the body I don’t think I truly appreciate it until I’ve got something to measure it against. I’m just hoping when I get to 18 miles my mind and body will still accept it in the same way 🤞 today’s activity was dancing in my danercise class and the whole day has been dancing one way or another. The Samson Stretch - Lower back pain? Tight hips? Do you sit a lot? Or maybe you frequently train heavy? This nuance of the samson stretch MAY be the fix for your hip flexors/lower back. These muscles articulate at the top of your quads with your pelvis, as they facilitate flexion (bending motion that decreases the range between limbs of bones and joints) when squatting, deadlifting, climbing flights of stairs, or when bending of the knees take place in general. To perform these start in a lunge position and bring your back knee to the ground. Take your opposite hand and “thread the needle” through your legs as you come back, rotate your torso and reach towards the ceiling. A rough warm up will consist of 2-3 sets of 10 repetitions on each side preceding the exercise you partake in. - These are great for people with anterior pelvic tilt (like myself). If you’re indisposed with back pain, hip tightness or you’re sedentary most of your days try these. Hopefully they help to whomever this concerns. Am I too old to start exercising? That is, perhaps, one of the most common thoughts among seniors - and even among some physicians. But, is there an age "limit" to start exercising? . According to Hammer and colleagues (2014) there is no such thing as "I am too old to start exercising". This longitudinal study started assessing physical activity, disease status, cognitive function, mental health and disability/physical function among 11391 older adults in 2002/2003. From the 11391 older adults assessed in 2002/2003, only 3454 were reassessed in 2010/2011. . What was found? . The first main finding was a dose response association between physical activity and healthy aging. In other words, more activity led a healthier aging (absence of disease, disability free, high cognitive and physical functioning and good mental health). . The novel finding, however, was the fact those older adults who became active after the first assessment in 2002/2003 were 3x healthier than those who remained inactive throughout the 8 years. Even more impressive, those who remained active throughout the 8 years were almost 8x healthier than those who remained inactive. . What is the take home message? . An increase in physical activity, even when started at older age, is protective against the chronic disease onset and all-cause mortality. .
